I really thought you would show the actual process with the customer. Please find a customer willing to film the whole process of coming in, and getting fitted and kitted by you; I think A LOT of viewers would like to see this process

My method is completely illogical. I’ve had a long love affair with guns, and my last shotgun was a high end German target gun, which I bought because it was a mechanical work of art. I then had an instructor help adjust the height of comb and cast. I hit greater than 90% of the clays…but I don’t care if I hit 100 or 30…I just like the gun…looking at it, cleaning it, shooting it, and admiring it. A wise person would do it your way!

My husband and I are currently working our way through any suitable guns in our shooting clubs gun room. Each lesson we have taken out 4 different guns to try. Due to our build, we have decided on 12 gauge, and both favour a Monte Carlo stock. Applied for licence. My favourite so far is the Blaser Intuition, but trying to find a slightly cheaper entry gun. Having another go with a Fabarm Syren Elos N2 next lesson, along with the Blaser. Also waiting to try a Browning demo gun that we can arrange to get in when licence comes through. The guys in our gun room are great, they said to try as many guns as possible and don't rush to buy till you find one you are happy with. Instructors said the same.

If new to shooting I'd probably agree .... however I own many guns, my approach is: Laser bore sight installed , find a longish room, (10m +) shut eyes and mount it 2 or 3 times and when mounted open your eyes .. Where are you looking and where is the laser dot ... If lucky all aligns, if not don't despair, adjust your mount, if you can, if can't walk away, if new mount works.... remember it, shut eyes and repeat...... gun mount is muscle memory BUT it needs to be repeatable and therefore achievable Blaser F3 (O/U) Benelli Montefeltro (Semi) Breda Andromeda (SxS) WW Greener (martini) Browning BPS (pump) Maverick model 95 (bolt) All very different stock dimensions and prices but LoP 14 1/2 - 14 7/8 and I love them all ..... Shooting is fun, be safe and enjoy.

When it comes down to it you don't need to try a gun, you can see instantly in the store if it fits or not just by mounting it(especially if the shop selling it has competent shots working there). If they are a new shot the just need a middle of the road fitment as they don't know how to shoot and mount consistently yet and as they progress their fitment will change dramatically.

@@michaelplank8966 never seen anyone ever do a fitting whiles shooting 🤣 a fit is in the person doing it and how experienced they are not wether you can shoot it or not. You might miss more initially or it not feel right even if the guns fit correctly because you've been use to the incorrectly fitting gun theres more to it than pulling the trigger.

@@michaelplank8966 thats one of the many tools you can use. But it matters completely on the shooter to have a proper and consistent mount. Also now alot of shooters and even top shots like Richard faulds and Joseph fanizzi don't have a traditional cheek weld mount they have it just touching lower part of the face or in fanizzi case when I've watched him his face rarely touches the stock. A proper gun fit and getting it right is a difficult thing only a few can achieve. You can do a basic fit and get most of the way there but the last few percent is for the masters.

I just feel it's quite unfair to constantly say, "don't go to a gun shop, go to a shooting school, have a lesson!" There are many gun shops that have an accomplished shooter in their employ more than capable of providing as good if not a better service to that which you refer and no doubt they would do the initial gun selection in the shop then bring a short list of possible guns to a shooting ground along with the purchaser to complete the fitting and the deal without the additional £60-70 the lesson you refer to would cost.

dear David, your explanation of your video is flawless, but often times we find ourselves buying a gun just to have it immediately in our hands, not thinking that, to have good results, a gun must fit you like a dress, considering obviously your budget. nice video David

Initially in your opening remarks it seemed that you would feature a potential buyer or two to illustrate your procedure. But it just featured you shooting several guns and breaking clays. In my opinion it would have been more interesting and more informative with a first time buyer or two taking part.

Absolutely wise words. A [unnamed] shooting school fitted me up with a Browning 525S. A pal saw me struggling with it and we took it back. Stock was too long, and 32" barrels made the gun too heavy and out of balance for a 5 foot six seventy year old. Traded it for a gun that fits [short stock Browning 525S. 28" barrels]. Comfortable, hits everything I shoot properly at. Lesson next week to make sure it truly fits, and that my technique and the gun work together. Job done ... at last though the trade across cost me !!..

Learning to mount a gun properly is the main point for new shooters, after that you can adjust your mount to fit most guns reasonably well, i know guys still shooting early 1900s sxs just as well as high end comp shooters with the latest greatest dt11s etc, and an early sxs stock specs are considered way off for most

Going to have another go with a new Webley and Scot o/u as it will be steel proofed for lead ban that is sure to be passed my s/s will be a wall hanger not steel proofed what a crying shame. At 61 years had the best of the shooting aint purchasing another expensive gun now. Just renewed my license how hard is that Spies being interrogated were treated better. In a few years it will be burning straws under the finger nails before your granted a license.😂

You're not wrong David, I bought 2 of my 3 guns without trying them beforehand. However my Beretta is now entirely custom fitted to me and fits like a glove, shoots really well for me. The other though... let's just say I have had the Caesar Guerini sitting in the cabinet for 7 months that has not been shot and will never come back out to be shot by me again. I'm trying to get rid of it, it's my fault for not trying before buying... £3,000 mistake and lesson learnt! Never again.

The past year i switched from 3 gun to sporting clays cause i have a bum knee. No thoughts given to fit i purchased a browning citori cxs and a beretta a400 sporting. Both guns i can do about 75 out of 100 clays in a tournament but never any better sometimes worse. I picked up my 3 gun shottie the mossberg 940 jm pro with a 24 inch barrel and can do 85-90 clays with it. Why because it fits me perfectly i kill it with a 24 inch barrel on medium to far course in nsca tournaments. I recently purchased a 28 inch barrel for it and its damns near perfect. Now i wish i hadn’t spent 2k on a beretta and 2400 on a browning. My 1200 mossberg with a 240$ upgraded barrel is perfect. Now im looking for a mossberg gold reserve over under to replace the browning
