My acan is arriving wednesday do you have any tips on acclimating them
@ScottM7 жыл бұрын
I usually temperature acclimate them, drip acclimate them, give them a coral dip and then place them on the sand for a week before putting them where I want them. Good luck with the new addition and don't forget to do a video showing us what you got.

I only have one acan, and like yours, it was red when I bought it 2 yrs. ago and is now orange. I target feed mine pellets & it has grown from 2 heads to about 15. Great info! Pls. continue sharing your experiences with the viewers, as they help us with our decision-making.

great info, a have a favia loosing its flesh slowly for almost 3 months. I tried to target feed it once a week without any success. what would you do about that?

Mauricio Cañon since it is loosing is flesh try a dip in iodine or coral dip and attempt night feeding. Also check the lighting and flow. Good luck.

Can u place them (both types of corals) side by side or should they stay far from each other
@ScottM2 жыл бұрын
I would be careful in that favias can send out sweepers that will attack others corals near them. They will also do this to other acans as well.

nice video! I got a dreamful colony 4 weeks ago. Now it looks like blaah. Brown. The whole Rainbow is gone and it was really a stunnig piece. will the colors come back if i shade it? or do they need more light? Run my Maxspect Razor @ 55% white - 85% blue
@ScottM7 жыл бұрын
you can try shading it butI found they do better in medium light. The question is the razors capability. I have Chinese black boxes and run my blues at 100% and my whites at 30% and still think it's not enough. I have heard of a coral guy who has his under Kessils and at 50%. So it all comes down to the lights abilities.
@NRG-ds5hc7 жыл бұрын
you means there is not enough blues on it?
@ScottM7 жыл бұрын
+NRG 1337 well ultimate corals has their Kessils on 100% blue and 2 t5 blue plus. You can see their tanks on Reefing with Billy Pipes latest video.

I had 4 acan frags come in a box together. They were acclimated, dipped and placed together. Two of them closed up and withered away at the same time. The other two I still have and are thriving. I love acans but this is the stuff that scares me with them. Some will do great and you’ll lose some unexpectedly in the same tank.

I had some nice acans, they where doing great , really puffy heads. But then suddenly they started to die off, probably because i neglected my waterchanges,
@ScottM7 жыл бұрын
NewReefAddict ! That could be, but the key to few water changes is to replace core and trace elements along with amino acids. Also feeding them helps. I lost my first attempt with Acans but don't give up.
@jorgehernandez12947 жыл бұрын
Rosco's Reef with Scott yeah, i had them for almost a year, i feed them about 3 times a week and they where doing great, had a nice mini colony of rainbow acans, but due to work and just life events i didnt do a waterchange for a little over a month, my system is and was used to having waterchanges everyweek. But will try again with acans forsure.

@@ScottM yes they do look cool some are very pretty. I just didn't think they'd survive in saltwater. I've had Molly in freshwater tanks.
@ScottM6 жыл бұрын
@@sseeaahhaawwkkssrule975 yes they are a brackish water fish and can survive in saltwater tanks. You just have to acclimate them slowly to the higher salt levels.
@sseeaahhaawwkkssrule9756 жыл бұрын
@@ScottM I knew they were brackish. I think I'll make a trip to the lfs and pick up a couple. How long do you let them adjust to pure saltwater?
@ScottM6 жыл бұрын
@@sseeaahhaawwkkssrule975 I did mine over the course of a couple of hours by adding saltwater slowly until it was at the correct level. Key is patience. There are some good videos on the topic too. Good luck 😀👍😊

I have the same problem with my Acans, went from full polyp extension to withdrawn and now occasional small extensions. Been 3 months since this occurred. I have also lost 2 colonies of Zoanthids in that time. I have Elegance, Hammers, Favites, Acropora, Milipora, Birdsnest and other Zoas all thriving. I'm suspecting a pest but i have dipped and had no noticeable improvement. Very frustrating
