Stunning and extremely rare Merk/Mark John - See if there is a mint mark below Charles bust - looks like a small thistle rather than a letter 'F'. If so it's a Type II. 2/3 of a pound Scots- also the value of a unit of land. At the time pretty much the same value as an English shilling but much rarer. Never seen one in the flesh. Congrats!! Truly awesome and valuable but best of all, it's Scottish silver!!

I love the history that you provide for us and also the excitement over that Charles 2nd silver coin! Congrats John!

To think that somebody, centuries ago, handled that and dropped it when walking across that very ground. Mind blowing.

I bet he was drunk and tried copying the teenagers chucking the lead seals to see how far they could get them, and then he realized what he'd just done. The idiot! I bet his wife just killed him. I bet he never told her, though.

13:44 Kudos for the Airplane reference (at least, that’s where I know it from!) that first field was quite dry in spots, even sandy, you might say. I started geocaching over 20 years ago…though I’m not active now, my gps is always in the car. That is a stunning coin!!!!! I liked your outro…sitting back on the couch with a celebratory scotch. Well deserved. Cheers, and ATB!

+1 No, King Charles II did not found Charleston, South Carolina, but he did grant the land to eight of his friends, who then established the settlement: 1663 King Charles II granted the Carolina territory to eight of his loyal friends, known as the Lords Proprietors. 1670 English settlers established Charles Town, named after King Charles I, on the west bank of the Ashley River. 1680 The settlement moved to its current location on Oyster Point, a peninsula between the Ashley and Cooper Rivers. 1783 The city adopted its current name of Charleston. Charleston was the first comprehensively planned town in the Thirteen Colonies. It was governed by the Grand Model, a visionary plan created by John Locke for the Lord Proprietors.

Hi John Just discovered your channel through this video Love the content and the knowledge you bring to it Absolutely love scotland Ive spent quite a few holidays up there in perthshire , especially in aberfeldy , coupar angus and Dunkeld, and worked on the reinstallation of two jacobean ornate ceilings in Edinburgh castle In ‘97’ which was an amazing experience and place to be Really interesting to hear the odd roman coin comes up there And considering the history of their failure up there it really does Make me really curious to what was happening up there when they were lost Did a roman drop them or a Pictish warrior from his or her spoils of war!!?? If only we knew Any way Keep up the good work And if you are ever in suffolk you are welcome to come out with us Cheers Mat and Zoe kent
