Katie and Scott I do hope some kind of agreement will soon be accomplished. It is a pity the owners do not see eye to eye in restoring the cottage to what is should be as it is heritage and in the long run help those old bones in the house to breath. As for your footage etc what ever your limitations on the footage you and Scott just doing what you do and as to who you both are is enough for me. Your humour and banter your discussions no matter what are a delight. Hang in there, give it time. It will come right in the end one way or the other. Wow, in my next life I want to be a bird that lives on your island! Or maybe I was one in a former life - the drone shots raise some ancient memory in me. We have a few places along Interstate 25 where they actually have wind socks to let the big trucks know it's dangerous to be on the road in high winds with high profile vehicles. We get some winds that will cross that motorway from 80 mph to 110 mph. It picks up what you guys call articulated lorries and blows them off the road flipping them over. It takes 100 year old trees and pulls them up, roots and all, and drops them on houses and cars. Very Wizard of Oz!

I live on Whidbey Island, Washington, USA, on the water and we get 60 to 80 mile an hour gales all the time. The roads are full of tree salad and we are picking up everything outside and putting it back up afterwards. Sometimes replacing windows.

I'm so sorry so many trees have been devastated by storms in the past year. I, too, hate to see oaks damaged. In the first decade of this century we suffered through a drought that ended with most of the state on fire in 2011. Ten years later we had a week of sub-zero weather, followed by another winter of freezes and then, in 2023, a terrible ice storm. Branches and trees that had been stressed by drought and freezes, were felled, bringing down electrical lines. The clean up took months. Although we had a lovely wet spring this year that lasted into July we haven't had rain since. Not. A. Drop. There is sure to be more devastation to the Live, burr, and pin oaks that dot our landscape. But your beautiful forest! I agree that an arborist needs to be brought in to husband the forest. Woe to those who see land and forest only as their own personal playground. Genesis tells us that Adam was placed into the garden to "work it and take care of it". Someone is failing at that job and it isn't y'all.

Dunno what latch or whatever there is on the open gate but we often have gates open after high winds. I think the wind is capable of doing strange things. It rattles things open and here in the north isles the suction can be more damaging than the gusts.

For insurance purposes on agricultural land and woodland paths trees must be inspected at least every two to three years or each year if they are old. As you say it needs a programme of selected felling.i Think it can be up to 10% without forestry commotion approval (In England)

I just feel emotionally ill with a knot in my own stomach here in the United States. I just can no more find the words than you. Myself maybe I would have just packed up, left it and started over. I don't know. I feel bad for everybody. For you, even for me.
