I've been on Universal Credit, whilst in debt due to losing my job and asked for financial assistance for an emergency to be told "Not eligible". This was despite working all my life and paying taxes up til that point. This is despite being a single father and having noone else to ask for help. I was forced to jump through hoops to claim back travel costs to attend a job interview. Which cost £16 and a considerable chunk of my universal credit payment, the steps took so long and required so much sign off I was ALREADY paid again by the time it was done. Yet here we have a Government official not only swindling the system but doing so with no effort or pushback. Not taking any responsibility for his actions. All while good people are refused help. They should be forced to jump through hoops, which are signed off by multiple people including actual citizen voting to claim back expenses from the tax payer.
