This song always takes me back to 2009. When I was 12 my dad came home one day and told me my brother had passed away, I’ve never been so devastated and felt pain like that day. I remember spending the night in bed sobbing and feeling so broken. I didn’t have a phone or a tv in my room but I did have a little radio that I would keep under my pillow so I could listen to music quietly each night, but I hadn’t much felt like listening that day/night. But eventually I turned it on and lay there listening and this song came on and it crashed over me like a wave, I’ve never felt such a raw embracing connection to music like that in my life. It was a raw, sad chill that it gave me but it was a magic moment that made me understand the power of music. I then got up and rewrote the song how I’d just heard it in my mind and what it now meant to me. “His best days now are some of my worst He’s found a place where he can be at rest While I’m wide awake he’s no trouble sleeping When a heart breaks it don’t break even” Meaning that he’d now gone to heaven and is at peace whilst I’m still here missing him with my broken heart 💔 so even tho this is a break up song where Danny sings about ‘she’, to me this song will always take me back to that sad night in 2009 and be about losing ‘he’.

Listened to this as a teenager, I felt so bad for everyone that could relate to the song and thought wow what a beautiful song for the ones wounded in love. 8 Years later I can't imagine I am that person today. My love, my fiance, my life, dumped me today. 5 months before the wedding, after I have just booked our perfect honeymoon and everything. I spent every dime I had on this girl and she leaves me without giving me any reason. I am lost, don't know what to do with life and how can love and life be so evil so cruel. The girl I've loved for three years is now with a boy that makes her happy. I was never with her, I've never gotten to call her mine, but I feel just as broken. The line "I got time while she got freedom" really hit home for me. When I was younger I always assumed it meant jail time, or something similar, but I think I now understand. I might be wrong on this, of course, but to me it makes sense. The way I see it, it means that she got freedom from me, while I was just stuck with nothing but time. Just empty time, the hole from where she used to be in my life, while she got the freedom. Again, this might be wrong, but it's just how I've come to see it.
