The FEGLI 75% reduction option seems much better than the the monthly 'fee' for survivor benefit.

After putting 5-7 years in the short-term bucket, and the rest in aggressive funds..... do we move the growth we get each year over to the G-fund, so when that 7 years is done, we have another 7 years of safe money? What if the stock market drops severly in that 7th/last year of your first short-term bucket?

I will definitely move the gains to the GFund and then when market goes down , go back in to the aggressive funds, and back to G when you have profits , at least that's what I am doing and my gain % is closed to 18%

For survivor benefit can it be a child? I’m a single mom and when I retire at 57 my daughter will be 13. If I can claim my daughter does the benefit stop when she turns 18 or 23 if not a full time student?

Double check with your HR but I believe what you are saying is true. Survivor benefits can be used for children but only to a certain age.

Not sure if you've followed up on this, but what you're asking for is called an Insurable Interest Survivor Benefit, which you can choose at retirement. Based on what you wrote about your age difference, I believe your benefit will be reduced by 40% and your daughter will receive 55% of your reduced benefit for her lifetime. Obviously, please do your homework, but this option is available.

First of all Thank you to Dallen for letting me post here. I have posted numerous times and never thanked him. I retired at age 55 In September of 2022 with a VERA/VSIP it was great full pension and full medical dental and vision. I just turned my MRA 56.6 and automatically started receiving $2,557 in the FERS annuity supplement also called the bridge or special social security supplement. All I can say is that it’s a huge benefit and many people don’t even know about it. I went from comfortable to really comfortable. I live in Florida so it’s already a tax haven and I found a retirement job that I started after 10 months of going to the beach golfing visiting friends and family. Now I have something to do with people I like and look forward to seeing everyday. Only problem on the horizon is the dreaded and unnecessary earnings test. Which I will subject to in 2024. Shameful government gouge !! Good luck to all in this journey ⭐️🏆👍⭐️🏆

Sounds like me. I’m in Florida as well and 56.5 thinking about retiring. Did you retire debt free and how many years of service? 🎉
@gregthomas2448
@gregthomas2448 10 ай бұрын
@@itguru2037 Yes debt free, and I did inherit money, so my retirement is probably not the same as everyone has a unique and different background. It’s nice to have different passive revenue streams. My opinion is, if you can’t afford south Florida, than you should consider other states where prices are more conducive with your retirement goals and disposable assets. Good luck to all my federal retirees. God Bless and do what is right for you. Do your due diligence 🏆

The agencies/OPM don't underestimate the taxes. On the estimate they give you a gross amount of you're total annuity (it's on you to estimate taxes based on your situation). Agencies don't really even do pension estimates, they send you to OPM (employees should have a portal that they can access to request one) which can give you a great detailed estimate. NFC used to mail a yearly estimate - it is garbage.
@Fedupgarbageguy

No, agencies do pension estimates for their employees. OPM is so backlogged, they would not spend their time digging up your 20-30+ years of service records to provide you an estimate.
