This seems like a case where the sensor bar isn't set up at the right distance. Actually, sensor bar is a very inaccurate name because it's not sensing anything, it's literally a pair of infrared lights and it's your Wii Remote that is looking for the infrared lights of the sensor bar and it uses the direction in the remote's field of vision to determine your cursor, the distance between them to determine the distance of your remote, and their orientation to determine minute rotation that the accelerometer can't easily read. tl;dr, I think Poof is playing too close to the sensor bar.
