It's more likely not made out of "exclusiveness" but rather most cost efficient way to reach a smaller/harder to reach market that also is one of its highest returns per capita (especially basketball) i.e they produce less, send out once, and price high to people willing to pay it saves them millions probably. Imagine how much equity would be lost if they had to send cheaper and more massive quantities overseas, through difficult to deal with/expensive customs tariffs everytime a product drops for us (at the bare minimum) they'd be in the red on overhead/production & distribution costs even on the highest of end products.

Also This is to appease that market so they foot the cost (the customers when usually that's part of the companies end to pay up) involved in getting other products from them and not just stay out of sports cards because of those ridiculous prices they pay for everything else they get due to distribution expense. Actually smart business move tbh.
