Chemnitz Hauptbahnhof: The tram has their own rails in the actual train station. Karlsruhe Albtalbahnhof: Nicely roofed tram station where the tram turns legally into a train and back Dresden Theaterplatz: Tram station surrounded by a Renaissance castle, a baroque church, palace and fairground and a neorenaissance art gallery and opera house.

Vienna is entirely missing in this collection. The trams running around the ring-street around the city center passing so many palaces and iconic buildings like the city hall, the „Burg-Theater“ or even the tram carousel on two floor at „Schottentor“ in front of the Vienna University and watched by the Votiv-Church are definitely missing in this list. You could make a similar ranking only with Vienna Tram Stops!

Some german suggestions. Most beautiful: tram station "Theaterplatz" in Dresden between the baroque main church, Semperoper, Zwinger, oldest bridge over the river Elbe and other fantastic stuff. Most interesting: the entire tram stop system around the main station in Leipzig. Fascinating view with the help of Googlemaps. Both in Saxony, German. The cities impressed me deeply during my short visit!

Fun fact, for a part of the line the The Hague tram and metro's to Rotterdam share the same tracks. This part and other parts of the Rotterdam metro network can also be used by heavy (diesel) rail.
@marcvanderwee
@marcvanderwee 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Niels, not complete true... You are right the the Hague trams and Rotterdam metro's (that looks like a tram...) share the same track. The former Hofpleinlijn. But that line is not open for freight trains, what you mention with 'heavy diesel rail'. Only the metro line to Hoek van Holland (Hook of Holland) is suitable for freight trains, between Schiedam and Vlaardingen Oost.
@DutchAlike
@DutchAlike 3 жыл бұрын
@@marcvanderwee Indeed, I meant the Hoekse lijn. I thought the Hofpleinlijn was also still accessible for heavy rail but there is only a connection with the national railnetwork to get trainsets on and off the metro/tram network. Klopt bedoelde idd de Hoekse lijn. Dacht zelf dat de Hofpleinlijn ook nog toegankelijk was maar hier is enkel een aansluiting op het landelijke spoornet om materieel van en op het metro/tram netwerk te krijgen.

Definitely think that Thielenbruch on the Cologne Stadtbahn should have a spot on this list. I was initially absolutely astounded at your choice for number one! But then I thought, 'He has got a point.' Den Haag Centraal is a wonderful example of true transport integration! And you forgot to mention the large bus station adjacent to the tram stops shown in your video! For stops in wonderful scenic locations try Austria, eg the Innsbruck Stubaitalbahn or the line in Gmunden. For stops next to superb architecture, visit Vienna, eg the 'Oper' (State Opera House). For a stop next to a castle stay in Austria but go to Linz and ride route four out to Schloss Traun, an absolutely stunning Baroque caslle.

Stockholm has a lot of beautiful / cool tram stops, for example: Alvik: Here, you can change between Nockebybanan and Metro by just walking across the platform. Solna Business Park. Located on Tvärbanan in the city of Solna, just north of Stockholm. Very cool and modern urban area. Waldemarsudde. Stockholm's first tram line was opened in 1877. The line went from Slussen via Norrmalmstorg to Skansen, on the island of Djurgården. In 1924, the part between Slussen and Norrmalmstorg closed, which ment that Norrmalmstorg became the final stop. In 1967, all tram tracks disappeared, because the city beleived that buses and cars was the way to go, trams were slow and old fashioned. But some people thought that it would be great if we kept one line, like a rolling museum. So in 1991, Djurgårdslinjen (Norrmalmstorg - Skansen) opened with the line number 7N (N = Norrmalmstorg), and in 2010, Spårväg City opened. The line number was 7, as it was between 1877 and 1914. It went from Sergels torg to Waldemarsudde, also located at Djurgården. In 2018, Sergels torg closed, and the line was extended from Kungsträdgården to T-Centralen, were you can change to Commuter trains and Metro. Waldemarsudde, however, is located only a couple of meters from the water, the tracks also goes in a loop, which means that Waldemarsudde and Bellmansro, the next stop, only is served in one direction. Årstadal. Located on Tvärbanan, this stop is half underground. Also Hammarkullen in Göteborg is very cool. It's the only underground tram stop in Sweden.

No two stations were the same, however I thought that waterfall and virtually the trams 'gliding' over what looks like a 'water garden' tipped the balance in Houstons favour, - fortunately they had purchased some very nice trams and not put them in some stupid livery. As for 'Fleetwood Ferry' where it just stops in the street (as part of a loop), and the driver gets out, you then realise that's the terminus.
