Anything over $47,000, the average price of a new car, is NOT affordable 😖

You don’t know much about airplane prices. Forget car prices… Look around...

I hardly think any of these are "affordable". Most people don't think $100K to $200K is exactly cheap.

@macmclemore of course it's easy to find expensive aircraft...but that's not what you expect the video to highlight when it says most affordable....

15-25k is more like it

I agree many of these are not "affordable" but they are representative of the kit market. I built a Zenith CH-650 and all in with glass panel Dynon avionics and the most expensive engine at the time (Rotax 100 hp 912 ULS) we paid $70K. I could not afford that so I formed an LLC and 4 of us split the cost, got construction time down to 2 years, and now it is very affordable to fly (for a plane). Our plane is shown a few times in this video (unpainted with white fiberglass cowl and bare aluminum) and it shows a half second clip of our building (obviously taken from KZbin). I can also suggest many others like the KR (but that is plans built only, no kit available), other Vans, Rans, Zenith, Sonex and other models. There are hundreds of kits out there and over 1,000 amateur built aircraft are inspected and awarded airworthiness certificates by the FAA every year. Decide on your budget and mission. Yes, you can build for under $30K with engine (maybe VW modified for aircraft?) and low cost avionics. Do you want 2 seats or 4? Cross country or off airport capable (back country camping type)? No one plane does it all. Join EAA and a local chapter near you, subscribe to some aviation magazines, and learn. EAA membership gives you the great Sport Aviation magazine, then also subscribe to Kitplanes. You can even build for under $20K (much under if you really want), a "aircraft" that does not need a pilot's license to fly or even need to register the aircraft - if the vehicle is under 254 lbs. Many models of ultralights are available. Without training your first flight may be your last, but you can fly legally without a license. Next step up is Light Sport where your driver's license is your medical and training to license can be half what a regular Private Pilot License is. Many older pilots now fly light sport due to no FAA medical required (I'm 78). And the light sport rules are going to be GREATLY expanded in 2025 to allow 4 seat aircraft and many things that are not light sport allowed now in 2024.

2 year construction 💀 ☠️ 💀 ☠️

@@TheNikipa There were 4 of us building (started with 5). One retired and one unemployed (who left for a job out of the area) so construction moved quickly. Working full time 7 days a week a standard good 2 place light sport kit can be built in as little as 6 months. We took a little less than 2 years. Some take over 10 years. To build a good quality, safe, airplane takes time. Most anyone who knows which end of the screwdriver to hold can build. Factory help is a must, even with good plans. We called the factory almost every week with questions. Most were short 2 minute calls but helped a lot and Zenith was very responsive and helpful.

Nice selection of Kits, most people do not realize how expensive aircraft are and the build times are likely to double for armature builder. Your pricing is much more accurate then many videos I have watched.

327,000 dollars is cheap!? The whole idea of the kitplane market was to allow people who couldn't afford factory built airplanes to own their own aircraft. I owned a SONEX. 27,000 dollars. Now that was cheap. The SONEX wasn't even in there!

So you ignored the Sonex? And the Zenith you settled on was the CH650 and ignored the CH701 and the CH750? Let's look at your Rans choice next. Nothing wrong with the RV9, but why not also include bit on the RV7 and RV8? Whilst we're at at, the Rans S-7 and S-20 deserved a mention too.

I could buy a brand new Mercedes for all these plane prices. When people think of affordable they think of 10 15 20 or 30 grand 30 grand is pushing it but still

You still need a qualified inspector to certify your home built airplane before you can fly it.
