We are always on the worst lists and I am surprised we didn't make it to the top 10. Stereotypes of California don't work. It isn't liberal. It's half conservative. Entertainment is not the dominant industry. Agriculture, technology, science, engineering, military, and so many other fields are huge in California. There are a lot of terrible narcissists, but also some of the best people you'll ever meet. I escaped Los Angeles because it's a third-world country, but at the same time, I was blown away to find the most intelligent, genuine, hardest working people, and best customer service I've experienced anywhere in the country.

Thank you. I’m a California native, and so is my entire family for at least 4 generations. All born and raised in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills specifically, until my parents decided they had enough of the city and moved up to beautiful San Luis Obispo county, before I was born. Absolutely the kindest and best people on the planet, hard working blue collar agricultural and ranch workers out there, Vinyard owners. Rural California is extremely conservative, as is my entire family, even the ones in Los Angeles. The people running this state are extremely liberal yes, but the population itself is much much more moderate, purple, conservative and liberals alike get along pretty well. The stereotypes are not helping this place at all

@@theshadowowl4196 Sounds like something a conservative with California envy would say. On a serious note, and I'm genuinely curious, why do conservatives hate on liberal states, when we outperform you in every category 2 to 1. Less crime, better jobs, better life, less accidents, etc. The only bad thing about liberal states is that they are expensive, and they are expensive because our economies are so good and everyone wants to live here. I don't understand your logic here. You hate the thing that works, but you love the thing that does not. Really? How does that make any sense?

Lucky Neelix! One life down and eight to go. ❤🐈Any mention how much of a factor seat belt use (or lack of same) was in the states with high death rates? I bet A LOT! A 35 m.p.h. head-on into a tree without a seatbelt can kill you quick while it might just leave you with a bruise on your chest and a big repair bill if you wear one. Nine times out of ten around here (southern Vermont) drivers and passengers who die aren't belted in.

I am past retirement age. I have held a number of different commercial driver licenses and had a number of jobs where I drove and in most states. I live in West Virginia now. The 'bad driver' label is a bit unjustified. I FEEL it is not that there are a lot of poor drivers but more that it is a state almost 100% rugged mountain driving. LOTS of opportunity to make a minor mistake driving and for it to become fatal. Any number of places where you drop a tire off pavement and you can plunge down a cliff......just the nature of 'The Mountain State'. Thanks

We were talking about this exact same subject the other not at work and the thing that does not get calculated into these scores is the contributing fact of lack of access to level 1 trauma centers or the distance to one. In example say you have an accident (we were actually talking about violent crimes but same scenario) and are severely injured in my home state where there is one level 1 center you could have a 2 hour trip to get to it. Then add in the remoteness of Wyoming or Montana and you can see why they my have a higher mortality rate.

Does the size of the state factor in? Texas is huge and has 85mph limit roads. And with 4 cities in the top 11 for population there are a lot of places with cars and heavy drinking at night.

That’s it, there are a lot of accidents in CA, they just are lower speed impacts.

I live in Missouri, and the drivers are dangerous. Hit and run is popular here. On vacation, passing through Kansas to Colorado. Kansas is very flat with a lot of sensory deprivation.

I like how their initial intuition is to blame the topography not the morons behind the wheel.

April, I lived a good portion of my life in Illinois, where you hail. Guess what? Outside of Chicago it's FLAT FLAT FLAT FLAT FLAT. Just like Kansas, my friend.

As someone that was born and spent the first half of my life in the UK its genuinely scary how bad drivers in California are. Absolutely zero lane discipline and use of indicators and I'm not even going to go into the speeding (everyone is ok with a bit over the limit but damn). I do genuinely believe it's not necessarily a lack of ability, but sheer laziness coupled with self-entitlement.

I can certainly see all of those states being on there although Kansas is a weird one, I do have to say it is very boring along with Wyoming by far due to how slow it takes to go through it. I travelled from the Denver metro often to Kentucky to see family no matter which way it's boring and St. Louis is probably the most dangerous to go through no matter the time. I am surprised Tennessee isn't on there since its pretty bad.

What about St Louis makes it the most dangerous? 21 South in Missouri used to be called death Alley and was one of the most deadly roads in the entire country, it's south of STL where I live
