Fun fact for new hunters who are unaware, Lagiacrus is the Lord of the seas, just as Rathalos is King of the Skies. He debuted in Monster hunter's 3rd generation which introduced underwater combat, a very unique mechanic with a few flaws but some clear fixes that could've been made to bring it back. Ceadeus appeared at the end of high rank in MH3.

I read somewhere that the Kokoto theme in Fatalis OSt in MHW is homage to the Kokoto as the first village where Fatalis appeared to, in first MH you can only access Fatalis via Raid/co-op type quest.

Probably my favorite trio of music in all of Monster Hunter. The intro cutscene, Lunar Abyss, and Moonquake. I ALWAYS have to listen to those back to back. (Also for some reason, Lunar Abyss always reminded me a lot of music from Atlantis The Lost Empire. Idk why)

I think the first phase theme really helps elevate the second phase. The first phase to me is all about ‘look at the majesty of this giant leviathan only ever mentioned in legend.’ Then second phase is almost feels like a chant or prayer in worship of it

Some of my honorable favorites Tigrex: Just the perfect theme for a vicious monster that just relentlessly dashes after you with the simple goal of running your ass over and thrashing you around. Nergigante: A great theme, you dealt with him once early on but only now are you fighting him in a true battle and you feel how strong he is and how tough this is going to be. Rajang: Return to Monkee. Just lots of bongos and a really catchy beat that always makes you want to dance, and also run for your life as he flails and spins and jumps literally everywhere. Alatreon: I'm not the biggest fan of the theme overall but there's a hyper specific part after the slower intro where the music starts picking up and getting really intense and I love that part, there's also a video someone made where they mixed the World theme and the MH3 theme together and the mix of the intense brass classical instruments with the electric guitar make that section SO perfect.

Ceadeus's theme Moonquake is probably my favorite theme in the entire series, because just like you said, it makes it feel like you are fighting a god, which makes the fight super memorable. I can't wait to see your reaction to the full theme, tbh.

Dude idk how you have such a refined ear. It must be years of training but I'm constantly impressed by the things you pull out of your observations. I listened to many of these themes before fighting a lot of the monsters cause after World I was hungry and just went back and found a RICH RICH ost of glorious songs. and Mizutsune's always read as a dance to me. If you like that you'll LOVE Great Maccao's monster theme, it's also playful and feels like a dance/engagement but in a totally different flavor, more intense for sure, but just as locomotive. And then that brilliant read on Ceadeus', no shade to your pronunciation i just always said it as Sea-Deyoos. like Deus as in 'god'. As he's an ocean elden dragon whale thing, felt appropriate. But it's song IS special. Those harmonies are so on point, the song has this majesty and culture'd tone to it is the only way i can phrase it. can't help but feel we'd be good friends, as I'm also a singer and into VG music ahaha. 10 in comparison to 20 years worth of music is simply way too puny to compile the best of all the soundtracks. This top 10 definitely has taste but no room leftover unfortunately for other bangers like Malzeno, Shara Ishvalda, Gore Magala, Nargacuga, etc. Without a doubt though, I'm so happy the fanbase has a keen sense for good music, giving Valstrax the victory for this poll. Mine personally would've been Mizutsune because I owe the monster a lifetime of gratitude for kicking my ass in the base Rise demo & shaping me into a professional hunter for the past 3 years now. Agreed.... The theme with all its phases is amazing. I am pretty certain that the reason is simply that Kulve has left a bad taste in many player's mouth simply because of the grindfest it was and they heard the music so often that eventually they simply stopped caring about it.

I think my favorite part of zinogre's theme (the original iteration in this video, specifically) is that it's orchestral with an electric guitar with a distinct LACK of electric guitar wankery; it's a part of the orchestra rather than standing above it and contributing its unique voice as color to the whole piece. I would absolutely recommend listening to everything you can from the 3rd generation of monster hunter games (tri, portable 3rd)

When you listen to Ceadeus's theme please listen to "Everlasting Words" with it. It's not technically a 3rd phase theme or anything but it's sort of an ending to Ceadeus's theme and more of just to be listened to instead of to play during the fight, since it plays in the cutscene as soon as you've defeated Ceadeus (which is the ending cutscene of the game's singleplayer mode). When they did an orchestral version of Ceadeus's theme, they played Everlasting Words along with it. If you listen to it all, you'll understand why I say this Edit: it would also be fun if you did a video comparing any one of the monster themes which have been redone, and you give your thoughts on which one you like the best and see how it's been redone. Tigrex's theme has had 4 different renditions and there's a good few which have had 3 or 2

i really think you should definitely give a listen to the diva songs, shes a in universe singer who sings in wyverian (monster hunter language) of wich ceadeus theme is technically one of them too. "soul of the world" still gives me chills to this day, it captures the wonder of monster hunter and its world for me perfectly. even if its not for a video its still a good listen. i do wish i knew who the actual real life singer was.

I think it's worth noting that Lagiacrus's theme has the unique distinction among the Top Ten for being... a map theme. It's not Lagi's theme exclusively. It's the _basic battle theme of the map._ People just love and miss Lagi _that much._

The title of the song itself actually names Lagiacrus though (I think it always has, actually), much like Rathalos is named in the Hills theme. So while the theme exists for the map itself, Capcom knows whose theme it REALLY is.

yo i havent played monster hunter tri but I have seen tons of vids on cedeus and listened to the ost, and to give you the rundown. Basically cedeus is an elder dragon who's insanely old and has a routine of smashing its head against entire islands to break it's horns when they get too big, sorta like rats chewing their teeth down. So your job as a hunter is less to slay the cedeus and more to do the biggest animal grooming job yet known to mankind before the animal smashes into the base of your home island so hard the whole thing sinks.

I think what makes Mizutsune's theme so good is definitely the fact that his theme feels less like a fight and more like a celebration or a dance. Like you said, the percussion elevates the tone from any seriousness while still commanding respect through elegance and grace. 10/10 monster, I understand why Valstrax won tho

Even though I don't personally agree with Valstrax at #1, I think that's one of the only themes that truly encompasses the feeling of playing Monster Hunter. I personally love Fatalis's and Safi's themes the most but that's because I'm such a sucker for compositions that invoke a heavy feeling of dread, danger, and an incoming cataclysm; but those don't necessarily represent the whole of Monster Hunter like Valstrax's theme does.

My problem with Ceadeus’s theme is that it feels like the good part is frontloaded, and then it kind of meanders until it loops. It’s also pretty short, but it loops very well, which helps disguise the length. I voted Allmother (that harmony never fails to give me chills), but unfortunately she didn’t even make the top 10. I don’t know how Deserted Island (Lagiacrus doesn’t have his own theme, he uses the music of whatever map he’s on, and Deserted Island is the map he’s most associated with) managed to beat out both her and Ibushi.

A bit disappointed that Arch Tempered Velkhana's theme wasnt in the top ten. As much as I love the base version of its theme for me personally, Arch Tempered's just connects me to the Velkhana more. Zinogre, Mizutsune, Lagi and Ceadeus getting in the top 10 makes up for Nargacuga, Astalos and White Fatalis being absent.

Kinda disappointed that Bloodbath Diablos didn’t make it to the top 10. It got the treatment I wish all of the deviants got with a remade version of the track for the base Diablos fight, but like Fatalis, it was split into 2 parts - Furious Rampage and then Tyrant of the Massacre. Glad Valstrax won, but man, want to talk about a top 3 contender for the first 4 generations of Monster Hunter, both the music and the fight. The whole experience, especially in the EX fight is just something else.

my favorite theme is by far the Mizutsune theme. its just so good but all the others were hella good. Monster Hunter gets themes right. there is variety in style unlike Fromsoft. who also are good with their music but its all orchestral. Monster Hunter has all kinds of variety fitting with the monsters so well.

The only one i misse in the top 10 was magnamalo honestly, but ceadeus is here, brachy too, many that are honestly so good andd catchy, like mizu theme. But yes, ceadeus has a special place ffor me too, and it is in many off us hunters hearths... it does sound so godly but hopefull too, nothing malevolent.
