Vietnamese was never a language in the translation train wreck's lineage, it was a bootlegged copy of Japanese Crystal translated into Chinese and then into English. ​@@PTCLegacy777To be fair fan games and ROM hacks are honestly pretty similar from a consumer perspective. The difference only really matters when your developing them and maybe getting them to run. ROM Hacks are direct modifications of an official game using a ROM editor (usually some sort of ROM editing game engine is used for this nowadays) while fan games are USUALLY made in RPG Maker XP using the Pokemon Essentials asset suite and are made from the ground up using the included assets and original content. ROMs are more inflexible but can be run in emulators and be made into physical flash carts to run on official hardware, while fan games can be run directly with an EXE and are more customizable, but feature no base game to work off of and can't be run on original hardware. (only on PC, maybe mobile) Honestly the only fangame I've seen not use RMXP+Essentials is Pokerogue which I think was made in unity using custom coding and engine building? IDK I need to check with that one but still, very impressive. The only other difference between ROM Hacks and Fan Games are how you obtain/play them. Fan Games are more accessible because you can just download them directly from a website and play them right away, while most trustworthy ROM Hacking sites only provide the ROM patches as distributing even edited ROMs can be considered piracy by law and get them in trouble. To play most ROM hacks you will need to patch the ROM yourself, which means obtaining the ROM either by having an official cart and ripping the ROM yourself or by... other means. There are plaCes online that offer pre-patched ROMs, but most are pretty shaDy so don't do it unless you know what you'Re doing. Omance!

Another dishonourable mention for me would be the Cloud White series. They are the definition of quantity over quality. The first one is Firered but it continues after you beat Sevii Islands for three more regions. It isn't long before you reach level 100, and there's still a lot of maps after that. Maps that are very glitchy and low effort. Trainers will frequently rebattle you right after beating them because they haven't any flags set. And there's two more games that cover even more regions, with the quality standard being equally low. It's the child dream of a game that has every region and it shows why such a prospect was unrealistic since the beginning.

There's actually a few ways a multi-region game can work. You just have to be creative about it. 1: Raise the level cap dramatically. Like to 255 or maybe even 999, with higher level caps unlocking every region. This would also probably require making a ton of new moves and more evolutions so instead of 3 stage evolutions being the standard they're like 6-9 evolution stages like in Digimon or something. This would likely require a full cast of of fakemon to accomplish well since it's pretty hard to make 3-6 new evolution stages for every Pokemon that's going to be included. Also a massive rebalancing of move power so that they're proper scaling across the entire game. This is the hard way. 2: The easy way is to pull an Anime move and reset your Pokemon every new region like what happened to Ash at the beginning of every series/arc. (Original Series to Advance, Advance to DP, DP to Best Wishes, Best Wishes to XY, XY to Sun and Moon, and Sun and Moon to Journeys) Maybe the game lets you keep your starter but reset it's level every new region you start and have you start over with a new PC box and everything. The starter in this game couldn't evolve in order to keep the balance, but would be stronger than most Pokemon of its species like the Partner Pikachu/Eevee in Let's Go but without the OP exclusive moves. Or maybe give it a new OP move near the end of a region to give at least SOME sense of progression between regions? IDK. #2 is probably the safer bet for a multi-region game, though you can still try #1 if you're up for a challenge. I played a fangame way back when that sort of did both of the strategies: Pokemon Zeta and Omnicron. The game has two regions, the first one easily lasting 80+ hours including the lengthy Post-Game plot. The level cap in the game is Lv120 which you're expended to be by the end of the region 1 Post-Game and the game is balanced around it, with new moves being added even after Lv100. But then when you complete the first region and it's Post-Game you can head to a new region, but thanks to strict border control (the second regions plot revolves around a virus that turns Pokemon into Shadow Pokemon) you lose access to ALL your previous Pokemon including your starter and the Pokemon in your PC boxes and have to start all over from scratch. This second region is basically a whole other game with its own 8 gyms, elite four, and Post-Game story, and you can still travel back to the first region and reunite with all your old Pokemon. Ever better, after you beat both regions post game your PC boxes are combined and you have access to ALL your Pokemon at once from across both regions. A really neat system all things considered.

Well, you need to adjust your humor parameter to "4chan" first, then you can enjoy it. Others... Can't quite be adjusted to. Either because the game itself is bad in some way, or because it goes too far. 4chan may be full of offensive assholes, but at times they're still managing to be funny in a way that can be compared to South Park, and can be pretty good at coding, spriting, and/or modifying roms, and Pokemon Clover was clearly a work of (twisted) love rather than a troll game.

In case if anyone's curious to know why I'm a fan of Hypno, here: During my first playthrough of Heart Gold, I decided to take a walk at Olivine City, cuz I liked the music there. I really loved to interact with my pokemon, cuz their reactions are often very adorable. At the time I had Hypno as my lead. And at some point the text said "Hypno started approaching you" or something like that, I got a little scared ngl. Then.. "Woah! I agree, that some Dark Humor is just done lazily and a easy way for someone to get their prejudice/racist/controversial tendencies out in the open, without actually even being funny about it. Like, if you're gonna do Dark Humor, at least be clever, witty, and ironic about it; that's what makes it funny. There was this hack of pokemon red I think, it was about escaping a post-apocalyptic kanto. I really liked the vibe it started off with but then there were the disgusting Pokémon redesigns, the 'adult' themes which was just a lot of npc's laying on the ground after being sa-ed apparently. It all just felt...edgy in a bad taste sort of way. Disappointing really, I wanted dread but all I got was gross edge.

For anyone still curious about that one, it's "Plaguemon." The developer is a French artist and was deliberately going for "edgy 90s creepypasta." OP isn't kidding about the degree of edge, either. I don't recommend it for a couple reasons, the first being the obvious lack of nuance to a frankly pretentious degree (it's an artistic statement, I stand by calling tacky edginess pretentious,) and the second being the instability of the final product, whether it's the game hard-locking because your starter evolved, or soft-locking because there's a mapping error causing Cerulean City to slowly slide out-of-alignment with Nugget Bridge, it's essentially unplayable. Interesting thought, as I too was hoping for dread at a cosmic level, but all I really got was my time wasted.

I will comment on a few of these rom hacks: -Clover, of course has its own strange atmosphere and humor, but I personally had a great time playing this game, especially hunting for shiny ones in this game. -Snakewood,interesting story, but the game is actually a bit unbalanced but someone created a remaster of this rom hack which is really fun to play. -Pokemon Psychic Adventures, well unfortunately I had this not pleasure play this rom, actually curiosity, but unfortunately I was disappointed when I saw that my favorite from this Generation Drowzee and Hypno he was treated so badly and misused in this rom hack 😢. I won't comment on the rest of the rom hacks because I haven't played them at all, but the movie is really great 👍

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! The topic of Pokemon Clover is a bit messy, since it's either one of the best.. or more on the "not good" side depending on how you look at it. Yes, the polish and quality of the art, sprites and new content in the game is stunningly good (especially for the time the initial release came out), yet on the other hand there are things that have aged poorly and even weren't all that favourable since day one. My view on it is just as polarising now as it was before thinking it over, so that's why in my eyes its hard to give it a specific placement in any list. Hence it being the "least worst" placement on the list, but I guess it getting placed in the "dishonourable mentions" could have made sense too. I'm pretty much in the place of "I see why someone would call it as one of their favourites, while the same goes for the opposite opinion." Love discussing opinions about this, hence the video!

For me Clover's gameplay is mostly fine until around the 7th or 8th gym; from there the trainers become ultra competitive minded, and it becomes a save state fest for any casual player. That goes double for the postgame where everything scales _directly_ to your highest level mon... that kinda alienates a lot of the playerbase.

Clover tries to be offensive to everyone, if you dont like southpark humor you wont enjoy it but if you are a fan go right ahead an play. its has passion and care behind even the most offensive joke example: the 7th gym who is a "no no german" and he uses all fire types except for one grass and water type. if you talk to him you learn his wife told him he should be more inclusive so he added the grass water type. it is such a small gag but it is what made me love clover so much

You're missing the point Pokemon Clover isn't bad because of the Dark humor and racism, etc; it's bad because it expects so much from the person playing it because if you aren't EV training or IV training your mons, you are left at a huge disadvantage that people who's priority isn't to EV train or IV train could easily get stuck in the game unless they rely on cheap tactics or a guide to get you through the game and even then you will be forced to grind for money by either using Thief on a specific pokemon, which is excessively difficult to find and even when you find it the item you steal from it is just a simple nugget forcing the player to repeat this activity for several hours before having enough money for the items they need for bigger challenges located further up the road and there just aren't any trainers you can rematch unless you count in the Elite Four, no other Pokemon Hack that i've played during my free-time has had this unfair of a demand from the player.

It's so rare to see someone complain about Clover's difficulty. It is without a doubt why I don't like the game either. The usual response is often "skill issue" but, like, real talk. Isn't this supposed to a silly meme game with wacky designs, good graphics and good music? I just wanna experience the game organically, not be forced to spam save states every mid to late-game major fight, making sure every battle goes perfect 3-5 turns in advance, because I didn't know or didn't even want to run around breeding, EV/IV training, and intricately teambuilding the fakemon. The game isn't really funny to begin with either, but at some point, you can't even focus on what else the game has to offer anymore (such as the aforementioned designs, graphics, music) because it's so dedicated to being hard, that it ultimately bogs down the whole experience. At least in my casual eyes. Not everyone has fun slamming their heads into a wall, barely overcoming something by the skin of their teeth after a million attempts, just to do it all over again. I think there should at least be a difficulty toggle.

if you want a genuine rec for a fun fangame with a whole dex of fakemon n its own story, id point you to solar light n lunar dark! it has cool designs, items instead of hms so you dont need to carry around a pokemon just for moves, high shiny odds if you like catching them, and you can even do lil side missions kinda like arceus! i admittedly still havent finished it, but its a fun time, i loved finding all the new pokemon n catching them to see, i think it captures the spirit of a pokemon game really well

I personally think clover is the best rom hack despite the offensiveness, its probably got some of the best gameplay and balancing ever with just enough balance of edginess and genuinely amazing designs so you have a good variety, all the pokemon are also viable resulting in me having to swap out team members every time i play. Honestly, for me, one of the worst romhacks I've ever played goes by the name of Pokémon Fire Burn, which has some lofty claims to it, like having 4 explorable regions, every Pokémon from gens 1-7 and an updated art style to match Gen 4. In reality, it has exactly one of those things- and it's not the first two. Also the gym leader theme was replaced with Through the Fire and Flames, iirc, so there's that. There's another hack I remember that adds a Sound type and replaces the entire soundtrack with the Black & White ost but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. It's absolutely ATROCIOUS, though.

I totally understand if some people just can't adjust for Pokémon Clover's sense of humor and playing it makes them uncomfortable at times, but at the same time I simply canNOT ignore how it is still quite literally one of the best Pokémon hacks out there. Once you look past the south park type humor and don't take it too seriously, it's visually outstanding, has so, so many cool pokémon and concepts and is so well executed. There is so so much to the game and I'm surprised it ever even got finished in the first place considering it's rocky development. Pokémon clover can be very offensive at times, yes, and a ton of designs are extremely crude or 100% based on an offensive joke, but the game can also be really funny and yknow actually fun. I don't really know how else to explain besides you gotta play for yourself. It's got some extreme difficulty at times so I wouldn't judge someone for savestating if they're just there for the cool fakemon. It's got some bullshit softlocks too so watch out. Oh and, playing as the girl character is easy mode, the devs themselves said this, and trust me, they're right, do with that information what you will.

Also just got to the part where you mention CAWPS and Outlaw, and even though I haven't played them in nearly a decade, I gotta say I remember those being actually great games, sure they have the classic teenage edge of blood and swears and profanity and stuff that you'd find on all the generic custom story hacks out there, but I remember them being really compelling, fun and unique experiences. I'm also pretty sure they're by the same guy who made Korosu, which is basically on the same level but I still remember fondly.

I was expecting the stolen sprites part to be about Pokemon Infinite Fusion; with all the drama about the artists wanting their sprites out of the game but weren't took out (So, stealing to some extent, or at least being held as hostages), the ai pokedex entries stuff, and the fact the game is just Kanto again with some tweaks (the gen 5 style overworld sprites for exemple)... T'was really a devastating blow to me when I saw the novameow video. But then I realised "Oh wait, it ain't a rom hack", so it ain't eligible for the video.

I actually played Dark Rising a year ago and at first, I was having no problems but it took me 20 times to beat the 1st gym leader because his 1st pokemon was a level 18 vulpix while the second one was a level 20 Heatmor which knows Firepunch, Thunderpunch and Dig! I only had three pokemon at the time which were Gible, Shroomish and Starly which were level 15 at the time and when I fought Emmet Cole to gain access to challenging the 1st gym, he had a level 21 Absol and a level 19 Slowpoke. After my 5th loss against Fiery, I decided to catch a Growlithe which knows Dig and a Geodude and then leveled up all of my mons up to level 20 but, it still took me 15 times to beat Fiery. I was extremely pissed off at DarkRisingGirl for making the 1st gym near impossible but, when you revealed in your video that she was around 12 to 13 years old when she developed Dark Rising 1, I decided to forgive her but, I'm still pissed off at her for making the 1st gym's difficulty near impossible.

I think Pokémon Clover is genuinely a top 3 Pokémon hack for me. The difficulty is challenging but not impossible, the quality of life changes added make the game much easier to play, and there are several features that set it apart from other hacks. It also somehow manages to have some of my favorite Fakémon designs ever. I genuinely wish they were official, because so many of them hit the mark on the head. The game oozes so much quality in nearly every regard that it's insane it's just a hack of Fire Red. That's why it's such a shame that a massive part of it is 4chan related. The game is absurdly edgy. And while it's not the edgiest fan project I've seen (I'm looking at you, Plaguemon.), a lot of what holds it back is the game's desire to be so 4chan. It sucks, because I want to be able to recommend the hack to my friends so they can see what it's like, but who wants to play a Pokémon game where blackface is a Pokémon and there's a transphobic trainer class.

I recommend checking out the pokémon rom hack Under the! since it is both hilarious yet unfair since the game is essentially Maxie banning all water from the Hoenn region to the point anything water related is just gone even names and pokémon types. I tried to playthrough the game but, i stopped when i reached my rival who instead of having Water Gun on his Luvdisc since there is no water the move just becomes Gun which takes out all of your pokémon in one hit one at a time. So yeah definitely a funny hack but, to a point 😅

My take with Clover is that while yes, they have a black people inspired Pokémon that's known as a thief and you can teach literally every HM to, it's counterpart is a police officer pig that's known to gang up on other Pokémon and is pretty lazy on top of that. The game makes fun of almost every single thing it can, not just minorities who have a hard time defending themselves in the public eye. It's a lot like how Family Guy will have a lot of jokes making fun of black people but also has a lot of jokes for white people as well, just like 100x more offensive.
