By far walnut is the best wood for drums..... first introduced by mapex and now tama.....these drums are euphoric and Boombastic

@@MrGuitarandvocals Don't get me wrong. The Star serie is a beautiful line of drums in terms of sound and build quality! They sound very pure with a nice sustain. But to me the SC sounds more into the face with a little more dirtyness, wich I like. I realize it's a matter of personal prefference. You got a beautiful set of drums! Enjoy. Hey man! Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to A/B this kit to another brand or series. But the Star Walnut series is so versatile that you'll be able to get every sound you want out of it (depends highly on head choice!). Hope this is at least a bit helpful. Cheers, sewy

hey! there are too many confounding factors to really give you a comparison. I used different heads and had different shell sizes and thickness... but overall I think that the walnut kit is a bit more punchy and has great low end... I'm going to release a drum head comparison video in the next couple of days so you will hear how it sounds! cheers, sewy

Got my new custom sizes 8 piece star walnut Satin Charcoal Japanese Sen from Japan, but I wish it had metal hoops for the bass because the stain job has two unstained places that look like where fingers held it, the dealer agreed its a problem, but tama stuck on their high horse says its normal. The drums are beautiful, the one bass hoop finish sucks. So much money for the set and got stuck with an ugly bass hoop.

It's Tama Japan that won't do it. I told them i don't want to replace the hoop, just send me a little stain or put some on thick paper and let it dry and I'll get it off the paper with a little thinner on the brush and fix it myself, but they keep refusing everything and keep saying its normal because uts a natural finish, but you can plainly see the lines of finish and barely to no finish like from fingers ir whatever held it. It's only the one hoop, the other is fine. The dealer agreed it's really a problem but Japan won't admit it. They refuse to acknowledge the fact. I spent 6 grand on the set, you'd think they would treat me better. The drums and hardware are great, but if I knew I'd have this situation, i would have just gotten a Chinese Starclassic and expect flaws since they make Starclassic in China now. But I wanted the top of the line, made in Japan, and this is how they treat me.

I could put some black marker on my finger and smudge it to make it blend in, but for top of the line Tama Star, you shouldn't have to do that.

I can fix it too, but if you spend $1,500 on a bass drum you expect it to be right and not have to fix it yourself. They wouldn't give me a little stain to fix it, i said paint some stain on some construction paper and let it dry, and send it to me, and they wouldn't.

I agree about spending that $ and receiving it damaged.....I just didn't know you're a wood finisher. I recommend a catalyzed urethane or lacquer after the stain. It may need to be striped first, can't tell without a visual. Good luck bro@@gaboogablah
