Khorne has one of my favorite stories. His warriors murder other warriors in the glory of combat in HIS name. They collect skulls for his throne to rest on. Two warriors came to give khorne their sacrifices at the same place by random chance. One pointed behind him to reveal a literal sea of human skulls. The other, bleeding and on the virge of death, held one. Khorne asked them how they got these skulls. The first guy, a space marine veteran, says he killed all the soldiers this planet had to offer through his spaceship. Then he came down and killed all the civilians. The second was a fresh space marine recruit. He was traveling through space on a chaos ship when loyal space marines boarded and started killing everyone. He got to an escape pod, but one of these marines got locked in there with him. Khorne looked at them both and judged them. He declared the one with the skull sea to be a massive PUSSY who wasn't deserving of being called a warrior. He killed all those people when they stood no chance at all of killing him, and offered that as an honorable sacrifice, which insulted Khorne. The other guy barely knew how to fight and killed a seasoned marine within a fucking escape pod as it crashed. Thus, Khorne blessed the second guy by healing him and granting him extra strength.

Orks are one of the few faction that actually gets an happy ending, in the story of Tuska Demonkilla: So, Tuska and his crew were travelling through the Warp, as you do, and the Geller Field of the ship failed. Immediately the Ork ship was assaulted by Daemons, led by a Greater Deamon. After repelling this assault, Tuska thought to itself "Wow, that fight was really fun, where can i find more?" so he turned his whole WAAAAHG around and charged for the Eye of Terror (a hole in reality created by the birth of Slaneesh that connects Realspace to the Realm of Chaos). To get hyped up, he stopped on the moon of the human Fortress World of Cadia and beat up a bit of humies for fun and to wait for his whole WAAAAHG to arrive, then charged the Eye. Time in the Warp is messed up, so after a bit of fighting Daemons, he arrived on a squishy planet. He liked it because when he stabbed the ground, the ground bled. Turns out that the planet was a Khorne World and a Daemon Prince of Khorne, called The Blood Prince, arrived to deal with the Ork menace. The Dsemon Prince easily slaughtered the whole WAAAAAHG, and ripped Tuska in half. With his last strenght, Tuska raised his power claw and stabbed it in the demon's crotch. Khorne was so impressed by that action, that he decided to take Tuska and his boyz to his Domain, the Brass Citadel, make them all immortal (they all return to life the dawn after they are all wiped out, so it's not actual immortality), and keep them as entertainment, fighting a never ending battle against Khorne's Demons. Tuska is very happy of this predicament because he gets to kill daemons for eternity, just like how he wanted

I feel like that's such an important point to make about why ork technology works the way it does. To give some insight into each god’s home: Khorne’s realm is basically oblivion from Elder Scrolls 4. Very red, lots of fire and lava, oceans of boiling blood and many many demons looking to 1v1 anyone who ends up in their lobby. Nurgle’s realm is a great rotting garden with things constantly dying, decaying, then sprouting into new life. In the center is Nurgle and his great cauldron where he brews new diseases to unleash upon the galaxy. He’s also the most chill around intruders as long as they don’t pose a direct threat. There’s a short story of someone accidentally wandering into Nurgle’s realm through a dream and he ends up having a genuinely pleasant conversation with a great unclean one before leaving. Tzeench’s realm is one giant maze of crystal and mirrors that follows no law of physics yet all laws at the same time. Those who wander in almost always are driven mad. There was once a single child and their pet dog who managed to successfully navigate the maze which has Tzeench scratching his head to this day. And finally Slaanesh’s home is basically a giant pleasure palace surrounded by a several defensive rings made to tempt people into staying in them by various means such as incredible food, infinite riches, or the ultimate waifu/husbando tailor made for that specific person. There was once an incredibly powerful grey knight on a mad quest to kill slaanesh who managed to pass through all the rings and challenge slaanesh to a dual. The prince of pleasure was so impressed by this lunatic that after defeating him in a battle of wits they turned him into a statue and put him in a place of honor in front of the pleasure palace.

Tzeentch are the one who broker deals to bring the other gods together. The biggest champions of Tzeentch believe they fight against Tzeentch, and trying to outsmart him is the highest form of worship. The Emperor made a deal with the Chaos gods to create the Primarchs. He then betrayed the deal and stole the power needed. Tzeentch is the only one who can broker those deals… And the Emperor ”outsmarted” the dealbroker… Magnus put him on the Golden Throne by the design of Tzeentch. The Imperium is just a Tzeentch plot to get more scheming, intrigue and resistance to himself. Tzeentch is the most powerful diety, the only thing stopping him is that if he ”won” he would die. That’s why he crushed himself to make sure he didn’t win against the other gods in The Great Game. Tzeentch is backwards and forwards at the same time, and that’s pretty beautiful. He doesn’t want to win, or loose, he just want change ad infinitum.
@Chaotic42Kami2 ай бұрын
Ah, but The Changer of Ways has already "won" The Great Game. For the Game itself is the Victory of The Changer of Ways. But, because it has grown too stagnant, He sent the Twins to recover the shards of His Power so that he can Break the Game again and make everyone scramble for a new status quo. "Winning" the Great Game would mean that everything Stops. So He can't "Win". But the Great Game itself IS, in itself, Tzeentch's Victory.
@e.nordstrom38922 ай бұрын
@@Chaotic42Kami Yes, you get it! Tzeentchian victory is defined by the existence of Tzeentch, since the ambitions to overthrow Tzeentch is just more fuel. I don’t even think what Tzeentch shows mortals even is a real representation of it’s true nature. Tzeentch doesn’t turn on the followers, they’re just rewarded with the gift of more change. Tzeentch loves psykers because they change the outcome predictable through the laws of physics, not for the sake of ”likes magic.” Once you get down with the nature of change, Tzeentch is the most honest, neutral and reliable entity there is. Tzeentch only seems crazy if you try to get the answer to what happens ”after the change,” there is no after.

Where they come from is unknown, they invaded the galaxy from the void outside the Milky-way, but as Bricky said, different hive fleets invaded from different points around the Milky-way, which implies, that they have killed all or at least some of our neighboring galaxies and any life in them. We dont know what the central Hive Mind looks like, where it is, or even really WHAT it is. 2. Even though Bricky didnt show any Tyranid models from the tabletop, they have been around for a very long time. They were my first army when I started collecting and playing when I was 11-12 and that was 17 years ago (when a kid could actually save up doing odd jobs to afford a few boxes of miniatures).

"Have Chaos Primarchs gone against the Loyalist Primarchs since the Horus Heresy?" Yes, actually! A lot of the new major plot lines revolve about the primarchs of both sides returning to the forefront. Roboute Guilliman, primarch of the Ultramarines, was the first to return to the Imperium, now functioning as its Lord Commander in the Emperor's "absence". He has come to blows with two of the other returned Daemon-Primarchs in recent lore, Magnus the Red of the Thousand Sons and Mortarion of the Deathguard. I think this was during the "Gathering Storm" and "Plague War" plotlines. Furthermore, Lion El'Jonson, Primarch of the Dark Angels, also has rather recently returned to the Imperium and fought the Daemon-Primarch Angron of the World Eaters in single combat, during the "Arks of Omen" plotline. Also there is a short story (i think) in which Corvus Corax, Primarch of the Ravenguard, hunts down Wordbearers and their Daemon-Primarch Lorgar, in the Warp. It's awesome. I'm sure there a many videos and shorts about these battles encounters on KZbin if you're interested.

Prior to Slaneesh, the Eldar were able to retain their consciousness within the Warp (as they already had a massive presence there in life) and coalesce themselves back into real space as a new born baby. Essentially, they could return from death and continue on from where they left off. This is what fueled a lot of the debauchery, as they could not truly die and thus not only did that enable them to push their limits (because if they actually died they'd come back sooner or later), but it also continued to push the bar of what was actually sensory to them (because you could not actually die, therefore a thousand+ years of the same sensations, media, or feeling gets old and stale. There is only so much to explore and learn, before you crave more and more extremes, and when that's not enough; you create your own extreme). As far as I understand the Eldar, this is what makes them so weak and what makes the angriest about Slaneesh; the broken cycle of rebirth. Rather than going back to the warp to prepare yourself for rebirth as would have been the case, Slanesh instead devours the Eldar's soul. This led the Eldar to create what is known as "Soul Stones", a crystal capable of holding their souls, of which if an Eldar can see their death coming, can place their soul within that Soul Stone (rather than it going to the warp like everyone else, where Slaneesh is waiting to devour it) to be recovered by their comrades and eventually reborn. It is essentially the same as the old cycle of rebirth, but much more hazardous and nuanced. 1. The Eldar must be capable of, at the time of (or just prior to) death to take a moment to focus their soul into the Soul Stone. 2. The Eldar must have possession of that Soul Stone at the time of their death. 3. The Soul Stone must be recovered by another Eldar (rather than a Slanesshi demon or some other Xenos) and taken back to eventually be reborn
@Caderynwolf2 ай бұрын
that must be newer lore... used to be the soulstones would simply capture their souls upon death before slaneesh could get to it. Games Workshop loves to constnatly ret-con everything... Though, me and my group, once 5th ed hit we stayed with that (playing since space crusade), the rules were just getting too simplified.
@Pink_Noodle2 ай бұрын
Slaanesh devouring Eldar souls might not be as cut and dry as it seems at first. The Eldar in question, exposed to all sensation as if they were Slaanesh, become Slaanesh. Like; it just breaks them down to lowest common denominator and they merge together like they are shards of the same soul from the same sensation/experience.

There are food and water shortages, and the crops start dying, the water starts to make people sick. My man Bricky kinda sold the Orks a bit short. Everything he said is true, but there's also a deeper, scarier dimension to them that is always neglected in these introductions. Remember how they used to be the Krorks and were basically like actually amazing at everything? That's a massive understatement. The average Krork was Primarch level in EVERYTHING. Strength, intelligence, you name it, they had it. Your avg line soldier Krork would positively body any Primarch you threw at him, so obviously the Orks fell a long way. But here's the thing: remnants of what they once were are biologically hard-coded into their DNA. Ork Mekboys (engineers) know next to nothing about science, most have trouble counting past five, but they make shit that thorougly embarasses everyone else's tech with some regularity. How? They get these little flashbacks, flashes of genius, having no idea why they're getting them or where they come from, but they just know they have to do what these flashbacks tell em. The Orks have the absolute best teleportation in the entire galaxy. They teleported an entire moon that they converted into basically a massive destroyer ship into Terra's orbit. Terra is the most defended world in the galaxy. Not even the Necrons could do that. These ancestral flasbacks are actually way more important than the power of imagination they have. That's mostly just to smooth over anything they miss from them. Now here's the thing. Orks take peer pressure onto a fundamental level. If one Ork is doing good, he'll physically grow, become stronger and subjugate other Orks. But they won't be salty. They'll be happy their Boss is the biggest one around. As far as they care, they're doing good. Now again, when an Ork is doing good, he grows and gets stronger and... you see where I'm going with this? Snowballing is their entire thing. A single Ork could have a destiny changing flashback, act on it, and a few years later, his once small and insignificant gang of scrappers is suddenly a WAAAGH! army of galactic proportions filled to the brim with Ork supersoldiers equipped with tech that confounds everyone else and would also confound them if they ever happened to actually think about it. But they don't, because they're Orks. It'll keep working. You can't jam it. You can't form some cunning complex stratagem to trick them. You can't negotiate. All you can do is charge directly at the Green Tide- which is EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT. They're the galaxy's Great Filter, the universal ultimatum of war, to a level sorry gits like Khorne or Da Emperah can only dream of being. They're not stupid, they're exactly as smart as they need to be, and they're only funny until you find yourself in the situation I described above, at which point you're f'd. They're a cheat code and the most succesful faction the galaxy has ever known.

In the current timeline of 40k Emperors sons fighting each other would be: We had Guilliman vs Magnus the Red during the Dark Imperium Trilogy and Guilliman vs Mortarion in Plague Wars and Lion'El Johnson vs Angron in Arks of Omen: Lion and at 17:32 the Dreadnought that hurls the statue to that helldrake Shouts "Vile sons of Magnus, Is he here" Thats probably where you heard his name. also Another thing on Harlequins is that they Are Eldars version of Custodes. Just like Custodes the Harlequins serve Eldar Laughing god Cegorach. Only reason they dont get viewed that way is the custodes lore is handled with more respect, while harlequins are all over the place, sometimes they go out and go toe to toe with Custodes killing dozens of them then other times random unnamed enemies just kill them like nothing.

My favorite bit of knowledge about the Tyranids is this: When you want to go to a different planet in star wars, you use a hyperdrive. In halo, you use a slipspace rupture. In the imperium of man, you use the warp. The Tyranids… thug it out. They wait for hundreds of years to get from planet to planet.

The thing about the Tyranids is that they literally came from no where. All of 40k takes place in the Milky Way. All of the races, all of the factions, all of the lore is just this one Galaxy. The Void between galaxies is for all intents and purposes impossible to cross. Its like an invisible barrier in an open world game. Then, one day, from the Void between galaxies, the Tyranids just... showed up. They came from the place that prevents all life from spreading any further. They are the impossible, unknowable monster that showed up from beyond the invisible wall.

Harlequin player here. their groups are like bards or a million small travelling circuses, going between all the different Eldar sub-species to tell the ancestral tales and keep their overall culture alive. their God is planning a grand "joke" on Slaanesh as revenge/salvation for the species (he escaped into the Webway during the Fall and Slaanesh can't get in there), so they're pretty busy carrying out secret and weird plans all over the place. They fiddle with fate, destiny, and manipulate everyone towards this grand scheme. Slaanesh does'nt get their souls as Cegorach still exists, linked to them as they act LIKE him in all things. One exception is their Solitaires (who play the part of Slaanesh in their performances), who by their role need to be closer to Slaanesh in mindset/emotions and She normally eat 'em on death although sometimes Cegorach can trick her out of that soul. Other Eldar sub-species/sects/groups don't trust them, as those Eldar are suspicious of anything that isn't "their way" of doing things and the 'Quins are...well...weird and frightening. If the Craftworld Eldar are based on the seelie sidhe/elves/faerie people of dream, the Dark Eldar are the unseelie courts/nightmare/dark elves that steal children, the Exodites are wood elves/wild nature spirits then the Harlequins are the delirious, the changeling and the mercurial fey, the edge of madness, those who feel the pain of the Fall yet laugh at the joke they know they are.

1:03 a warp storm is basically when a section of the galaxy is consumed into a hurricane or bubble of the warp. Basically from the perspective of the Imperium a mere 6000 years passed. From the perspective of the Tau they were essentially trapped inside a pocket dimension of theoretically limitless time. It's kind of meaningless and impossible to guess how much time the Tau experienced, it could be 6000 years or 650,000...or even just 6. Malcador did something similar during the Horus Heresy by folding Jupiter and it's moon Titan inside a similar pocket dimension to give a miniscule astartes force the time it needed to build itself up into a viable military force. Thus founding The Grey Knights.

t'au are my favorites. they try to genuinely recruit people of all kinds peacefully, and only if they refuse or react with violence do they return that violence. they have a number of other alien races that work alongside them, such as the kroot, who have active adaptive control over their evolution to make new types of kroot, and generally the kroot are mostly shooting, but they can do melee combat a little better than standard t'au. alongside them is the vespid stingwings, who have a lot of mobility and some unique weapons to act as basically a way of jumping some smaller strike groups up the board quickly for hit-and-run tactics. in lore, they have a few other people who they work with, including a newer faction called the leagues of votann, who were an offshoot of humanity from before the horus heresy. the leagues of votann eventually basically became space-dwarves, and traded technology with the t'au, allowing the t'au to make some of their stronger railgun weapons. they also do have a bit less of a good-guy appeal, though that appeal still exists. at some point during things, a commander named commander farsight had suspicions that the t'au leaders, the ethereals, were lying to the t'au about chaos not existing. when commander farsight came into contact with a blade tainted with the ability to steal the natural lifespans of anybody it kills, adding it to it's wielder, he came to fight chaos and see the truth of things, that the ethereals lied and sent many t'au to their deaths for even thinking that the ethereals might lie. commander farsight then separated from the full t'au empire to create his own small empire, called the farsight enclaves. the farsight enclaves are a subset of t'au which basically operate the same as normal t'au, but they have the ability to do actually decently well in melee combat, though i'm pretty sure that comes at the cost of some of their shooting rules. the end result in terms of lore, though, is that the real t'au empire is essentially a corrupt system built on lies from the ethereal caste, using any races they can to satisfy their own political desires, and sending those who might dissent to their deaths in the name of the "greater good", while the farsight enclaves are the genuine, true good guys, who operate with pure intentions and actually try to help any people they can if they're willing to accept help. the t'au empire has since labeled the farsight enclaves as traitors, and is actively attempting to hunt down and kill off the enclaves, while the enclaves are attempting to survive and expand through a serious and genuine idea of co-operation with other races. that dedication to co-operation means that on occasion, they'll actually do trade with some of the human worlds near the enclave borders, giving humans new tech, and on very rare occasion, they will even deal with inquisitors to trade technology and information.

One word to keep in mind depending on how deep you get into Warhammer 40K lore is the term Grimderp. This franchise has been around a very, very long time, and has had a lot written, and changed, over the years when it comes to the lore. TONS of books and official stuff. Fact is that often times a lot of very silly things have to be written in order to justify a series of actions in the universe. Grimderp is basically what you might see when you read something about a particular event and go, "Wow. Everyone involved made choices that were really stupid and out of character. Why would they do that?" Just because. It's something you just accept. I don't know if you like high/dark fantasy, but there's also what people now call Oldhammer. It was Warhammer fantasy, which shares a few things in common with 40K like the chaos gods and all that, but is its own universe and not connected to 40k in any actual lore or story way. It's also great to get into, and has video games! The Total War Warhammer franchise. There was also a lot of Grim Derp in that when it came to what was called the End Times. Basically the company wanted to phase the old dark fantasy version out and wrote the End Times stuff where the entire world is basically slurped up by Chaos, but in order for it to happen a lot of characters made a lot of stupid choices that made no sense for them to make.
