Been there with the coil issue also. Anytime I have to diagnose a car that has a skip and it has anything MSD/Accel/Mallory, or anything other than Ford Motorcraft for coil/ignition, I isolate those first, and 9/10 times it’s those aftermarket parts 👍

I was watching Fox cast a few weeks ago. Dover made a joke that if there’s an ignition issue, to check anything with MSD on it first 😂. I had a random loss of spark when hot on my Windsor. It ended up being the pip sensor. Would fail when it got hot. It was a “brand new” reman distributor too. I ended up pressing it apart and putting a motorcraft unit in it. No issues since.

I have a misfire until it warms up especially on cold mornings in my 88EFI Tbird. I drove it a week after each parts check and change. I change plugs and wires, the new distributor went bad, I changed coil, changed pvc screen, cleaned the tank and fuel system, IAC, compression check, valve check. If I have to replace the head gaskets, I'm taking it to you for engine rebuild.
@steamy1225 Жыл бұрын
I agree with the wires and plugs on misfire, but i never had a coil go bad on my Stang . Next month will be 30 years that i've own my 88 and had replaced the original coil back in 94 with an Accel brand one and it is still on it today and still running fine . the original one ended up on my 83 F100 and it power it just fine as it's original canister type did fail. And if you are very carefull on the injector plugs they can be removed with out breaking the clips. My car has 241K miles on it and i don't have any electrical issues. I reinstalled the original TFI modeule last week as the aftermarket Dyno Mod one finally failed after 15 or so years. Very few electrical issues that i had and that is to parts failure. Great video and good info . So far SO good. I'm in MI btw.

Hey Brew2L, I've had what I initially thought was a misfire that just started out of nowhere during a drive. It was running fine, I drove down the road a few miles was stopped at a light idling fine when the light turned green and I went to take off the car stumbled like it was running on 7 cylinders. Once i'm going and up to speed it runs fine. It'll still do 80mph on the freeway in 5th with no problem. I'm leaning towards the s hose on the fuel pump possibly having a pin hole and the fuel not getting to the engine on takeoff but it's fine once it's up and running. I remember Caleb (Foxcast) had an a bad s hose on his red car. I gotta run the gas out of the car and drop the tank maybe this weekend and see if I'm right.
@sHiFtY-5-oh2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the year if you have a maf check that out I've had some issues with mine that have done the same thing that your describing and also check your plug wires for burn spots, your spark plugs the simple stuff is usually the problem especially if it just develops like that outa no where. those S hoses definitely are an issue too tho but doesn't really sound like thats what you've got going on
@Mustangdan3512 жыл бұрын
@@sHiFtY-5-oh It's an 88 California mass air car. I did run codes when it first happen but nothing definitive pointing at a solution and no MAF codes. I do need to do a more extensive inspection of things. But like I mentioned at higher speeds/rpm the stumble/hesitation goes away and it runs fine.
@sHiFtY-5-oh2 жыл бұрын
I had such a similar issue and anything over quarter throttle I would start havin a miss come out of nowhere and my tach would start jumping around too but I have an autometer tack I have the whole Florida 5.0 cluster in my car and I had no maf codes or anything like that either and I chased everything from distributor to coil plug wires spark plugs and it pointed to nothing definitive that I could see so I just threw parts at it like a dum dum I changed it all and it ended up being that the maf was dirty and I had cleaned it (so I thought) a couple months before that but I guess it didn't come out all the way clean or something but it's an aftermarket POS in my opinion I had to send it in to pro M previously like 10+ years ago cuz it messed up it's a Pro m bullet I couldn't believe it what's causing the problems that sound much like yours I mean all these cars are finicky though they all might do the same thing but have 10 different problem outcomes depending on your build even lol! good luck in your fixing adventure good talking with you
