Very nice '33 pick up . The floor and top bow videos turned out great . Nice to see you being brave enough to cut the tubes and make the needed changes as straight forward as it was . You are very talented and well worth the times it takes to see you do what you do . Decades ago I made some headers for a 454 , 1973 Vega for a friend . They were used and who knows what they had been on , wasn't a worry to splice and dice till it worked . Your wise words that you always say ... "sooner or later someone will have to take it apart again !" Have a great week !

take 2 pieces of angle iron and weld them to the jaws of some cheap vice grips so when the jaws close you have what looks like square tubing...or just use pipe pieces . i did this with some broken vice grips to replace the finger tip swivel thingys

You could take advantage of needing to redo the coating to remove the exhaust take off. That way you could have the exhaust exit the sides.

I'd be tempted to just build me a thick flange. You got the pattern right there. And bonus, no cutting of the headers.
@LGKustoms
@LGKustoms Жыл бұрын
The flange would be 2” thick and milled on an angle. The exhaust ports are not 90° to the frame, so if I make the flanges thicker, the header will sit lower and the primary’s will hit the top of the frame rail.

Hi Lee your question about the 3/8 and 7/16 bolts, could be that the cross over pipe was usually at the front, so maybe it's to give more support at the front of the engine, for the extra weight? Thanks Byron
@LGKustoms
@LGKustoms Жыл бұрын
Good theory, but I think the crossover pipe didn’t come until later though, and the early engines without the crossover still have the 7/16 bolts up front.

Why not just weld one or two more port plates to the existing plate & use longer bolts. Kinda like a spacer to bring the pipe out to clear the cab. That would avoid cutting up those nice pipes.
@LGKustoms
@LGKustoms 4 ай бұрын
Because of the angle in which they bolt on, by adding an extension it pushes the header lower causing the primary tubes to hit the frame rail. If the exhaust port on the block was 90° to the frame, your idea would have worked.

O...BTW Lee, what if you took those new clamps you made for the headers, and split them so you could bolt & unbolt one side (via two wingy thingys to bolt to) then clamp the other side, that way when you put them on and take them off headers, just loosen two bolts on one side, and release the gripper on the other side....?

32-34 Ford pick ups all have the same sized cowl, just the firewall and belt line body lines that are different
@AndyGeesGarage
@AndyGeesGarage Жыл бұрын
So I wonder is the difference between car and truck that the truck cowl is shorter and gets wider sooner? Good solution since if you sent them back you’d still be out shipping and customs fees. Speedway needs a shipping deal like Summit does for us Canadians. That’s a sweet little truck you guys are putting together.

Great project Lee, it's kinda to bad that so called American companies are outsourcing to other countries, and telling the public they are an American company, and everything is made in house. Couldn’t you make a spacer for the flange and then you wouldn’t have to cut the headers at all?
@LGKustoms
@LGKustoms Жыл бұрын
Adding a spacer pushes the header in to the top of the frame rail. The ports on the block are on 45° angle compared to the header
@nzsaltflatsracer8054
@nzsaltflatsracer8054 Жыл бұрын
One look at these headers tells me you shouldn't buy them as the pipe angle at the port is wrong. This creates back pressure at the end ports that not only kills what little HP the Flattie has but also creates more heat sink that the struggling cooling system has to deal with. Take a look at your end ports as they come around the cylinder & you'll see what I'm talking about, the pipe needs to continue the port angle. It's 50+ years since I raced flatties!
