Arkansas fan here, and believe it or not, there's one guy I'd put ahead of Chad Morris on worst college football coaches over the last 10 years- Ellis Johnson took over a 12-2 Southern Miss team, and they went 0-12 the following year. Of course, Southern Miss is not a Power 5 team, but had been a really good Group of 5 team. Chad Morris at Arkansas is the worst Power 5 hire, but Ellis Johnson is easily the worst FBS hire, not to mention it took a few more years for Southern Miss to recover from that 0-12 season

Gary Andersen’s short tenure at Wisconsin nearly wrecked the Wisconsin program as he alienated the high school coaches, tried to change their offense model recruiting small o linemen, and quit suddenly when he couldn’t get JC college transfers and other recruits into Wisconsin because of their academic requirements. Turned out to be a blessing for the program

100% agree with your take with Scott Frost. As a Nebraska fan, Scott Frost has definitely let me down so far. He gave Nebraska the worst start ever in his first season, shows flashes of improvement that doesn't translate into long-term success, and as for that Iowa game in 2019, where if the Huskers win they earn a bowl game, I'm still bitter. I have zero respect for coaches that settles with overtime; only time that should ever be acceptable is if you're down by 8 late. So, it bugs me that those "coaches that settles with OT" happens to be coaching my favorite team. I'd say that if Nebraska doesn't make it to a bowl game this upcoming season, they should let Frost go. That's probably too generous, as I would also like them to have a winning record. Edit: I need to add that while Frost has proven to be the biggest problem for Nebraska as coach that it is not ALL his fault, though. The QB and RB coaches have jobs to do as well; the ball-security is trash.

Worst coach of the decade? Easy. Mike Jinks at Bowling Green. He took over a program that had just won three straight division titles, with two conference titles, and three recent wins over Big Ten teams. Jinks' first game - lost 77-10 to Ohio State. Fourth game - lost 77-3 to Memphis. The same Memphis team that BG played to a three point loss the previous year. He went 4-8, then 2-10, then was 1-6 when he was fired. He beat 5 MAC teams, all of which went below .500. 2 wins against FCS - both came down to the last play - and a loss to FCS. Recruiting classes dissolved quickly due to arrests and academic dropouts. Just a disaster on every front. The new coach inherited an utter mess and is cleaning it up. Also see Dan McCarney at North Texas. Lost 66-7 to Portland State of the FCS.

In Moorhead’s first season They were expected to win 10 games with a lot of production returning from 2017. In 2018 Mississippi State had the #1 defense in America, and also produced 3 first round picks. They went 8-5 though.... Truth is, the offense was abysmal, and the team was extremely undisciplined. I remember multiple games just that season where there were penalties on kickoffs and even before the first play. Moorhead was expected to be an “offensive genius,” and was everything but that... In his second season, expectations were obviously not as high after losing a lot on defense, but expected a similar record to the year prior because of Penn St transfer Tommy Stevens. While Stevens wasn’t bad, he was extremely prone to injuries. Which led to true freshman QB Garrett Shrader being the starter for the majority of the season. He was actually an upgrade over Stevens, but once again a lack of effort and abysmal play calling landed the team with a losing record. Not to mention the off the field problems... Moorhead was Chad Morris, but with a humongous foundation to build on. He just want ready for the SEC as his first P5 job. He’ll be better his second time around
@jamesmarhen3 жыл бұрын
Reality is hiring for any job is difficult because so many factors come into play. Charlie Strong had a very good resume, Texas seemed a bad fit but USF seemed like a good one and he couldn't regain the touch. Wille Taggart went into a situation where I don't think he fully understood all of the problems surrounding the program and was borderline set up for failure but he also didn't seem ready to adjust and FSU itself didn't seem to want to give Taggart the time to do what he's good at, slowly build up a program. I agree Chad Morris was the worst and his tenure at SMU wasn't really that impressive so to me the hire from day one always seemed strange. I'm an ASU fan and we've hired the proven coaches, the up and coming young coaches, we've done it all and we're still mediocre. The outside the box hire of Herm might actually be the hire we've been waiting for but the evidence is overwhelming, hiring the right coach is extremely difficult and in some cases the problem might be more your program and not always the coach.

The culture he built wasn’t about winning football games, he literally said “we had fun today” after a loss. His entire 2016 recruiting class transferred. Frost inherited a weak team, missing an entire year’s worth of recruits. Nobody in the country was winning in the first 2 years after that mess. His 3rd year was during a pandemic, and it’s not like the B1G handled that very well (no spring practice, no summer conditioning, fall practice was 3 weeks before the shortened season started). Does it suck? Yes. A lot. But Frost has had to deal with a lot more attrition and unforeseeable circumstances than Riley did. We should have hired Frost instead of Riley in 2015.

Willie Tagert did not get a fair deal FSU. Jimbo Fisher is a bum for leaving the glory program a mess. Charlie Strong is a great coach but I wish her never left Louisville.
