Loved this display at Bay Area makers faire. Wonderful hands on interactive displays. Never seen anything like this before. I could have spent the all day just playing and learning. Thank you!

Great Interview! If you have a snarky comment about pinball being outdated make sure you watch from 5:20 to the end.

Fascinating stuff! I love pinball and I love electro mechanics! I wish pinball to be much more popular than what it is.

This is so awesome - it's a good thing that people learn about this technology. Bravo Mark. And Bravo Make for showing us all.

The first mechanism demonstrates true innovation in pinball technology. The famous Ted Zale "zipper flippers" only used in a total of 30 games in pinball history and most implemented by Bally. Quote of the video, "It's going to be harder to teach you how to fix it, if you are not motivated to learn."

I used to skip class in high school, early "70s" to go slay a pinball machine. One in particular that a buddy and I would be able to wrack up a huge amount of free games on. We were pinball wizards, lots O fun. Thanks for the video. Hearing the bells brought back those good memories. Thanks again.

I'm making a totally mechanical pinball game with clipboards and yardsticks and repurposed screws and other stuff. No electronics. No lamps no lights, just bells from telephones. I'm about to finish it.

I know how they work because I was a Pinball Wizard. Play "Amigo" (preferably the two- player model) all night on one quarter. Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Xenon, Earthshaker, Getaway! High Speed, and more than I can remember or name. Used to park my cab near MIT and go in to the student center about 1- 2 AM and have the pinball room to myself, maybe one or two other nighthawks. Mostly played in pubs. Something about the quick-twitch muscles in my fingers, hands and wrists was impervious to booze, unlike the rest of me. Sober, half or totally drunk, I could play some serious (as in only a couple of guys would even bother to challenge me on certain machines) fecking pinball. Put your quarter up on the rail to hold your place, pay for your game, and get ready to sit down. Because I own this machine, man. Sometimes the "good old days" really were all that.

Fascinating machines, but who's going to maintain them? It's hard enough to understand them, and harder to fix. At least some takes the time, fortunately.

You're so sheltered. I will DESTROY you at pinball. Bet my next year's pay on it... Get some culture before you make a judgement call you know absolutely NOTHING about son.

Also (mental midget) do you know the difference between a.c. and d.c. power? Use your phone to Google it, get you some base knowledge, and see how far ahead of solid state this is in design work. Your grandfather could have made a living building these in the 60s and 70s. Without him, you wouldn't be around to say dumb stuff sport-
