I am a single mom who ran a charity thrift store for 10 years. I have two special need teens. This is something I know I have the knowledge of thrift items and looking them up. I am just trying to get brave enough to sell on ebay (and some money I can put into it) so I can start our charity back up. We were doing great but the new priest we got at the church didn't like the idea of a thrift store no matter the money or how many we were helping. I just got to get knowledge of ebay to feel co.fprtable. As a matter of fact we had several Mormons volunteer for us and we had a great shop growing to the point we covered 5 counties. I pray I can over come my fears and money hiccups as a single mom it's hard to even get a few bucks together to get into buying and selling.

I've listed to you preach this same topic many times in past videos but today it really hit home. Moving forward my goal is to become very focused on STR , while in turn, work on moving out my long tail listed items as long as I gain a reasonable profit. Thanks coach, your the best 🏆

When it comes to sell through rate, does anyone have a cut-off point? For instance, is a 40% sell through rate too low? Is 50% too low? Anybody have a sell through rate % where they say "nope, that's too low?"

I only do this part time, a couple years away from retirement then I will have more time to dedicate. Everything you have spoken of is very true, and can save a lot of time and money. About to complete my first year, so far the hardest part of this entire venture has been finding quality items to source. If you don't live in a decent sourcing area ,you will have to drive to survive. Ebay is simple if you live in a good sourcing area....

Trouble is that eBay is flooded with competitors, hard to find high str items to sell quickly.
@uniniversalstar1974 Жыл бұрын
That depends on what your selling. For example Women’s Tiera International Faire Isle Cardigan Sweaters They are a very fast seller for me within 1-3 days of listing. my Goodwill thrift store have them stocked weekly. They have them priced at $4.99 and I sell them for$28-$50 dollars depending on the embroidery. If I thrift on Veterans discount day Im only paying $3.99 for them I have sold around 6 so far. So I know when I go thrifting I look for that particular sweater because I know it’s going to sell fast even during the summer months. Consistency is key and like he said you have to know how to walk out of a thrift store empty handed if you can’t find items with a good STR but, every clothing item that you may source may not even have a STR like certain brand Silk tops and cashmere sweaters. Those sell fast for me regardless of the brand and STR.
@Fillups422 Жыл бұрын
I started really focusing on sell through rate and the problem I encountered (which is a good problem) is I sell things quicker and have limited sourcing options, so its like Im running in place. The sales are there, just not the growth Id like. Not unhappy with this, just have to adjust my sourcing strats.

Also, when you mention specific types of items, YOU ARE CREATING competition against yourself! That is YOUR RIGHT, but knowing you are costing yourself by having newbies looking for and listing the same type of items, is ultimately creating work for yourself. So many KZbinr's focus on WHAT to sell, and the perceived BOLO's (which change)... rather than HOW TO LIST, price, store, find, package, ship, and deal with the common BUSINESS PROBLEMS/challenges. A few of the item types some of the KZbinr's have 'pushed' as 'great sell items' and 'money makers' I've decided to literally boxed up and PUT AWAY IN STORAGE, because for many of these type of items there is a clear RACE TO THE BOTTOM (in lowering the price & raising their promotional costs). Remotes are one of those items... with few exceptions, I remove the batteries and store them (or don't bother picking any more up) because what USED TO BE bank is now pennies or a slower sell in a (now) saturated market in many cases. Again, your channel, your call... but HOW TO SELL (and deal with the business aspects) is something so few youtubers do... and so many newbies COULD USE (benefit from), more than WHAT to sell.

You are so right. I have a few in my inventory that I should of done better research on. Stale inventory going out .. focusing definitely on much better sell through and better sales. I don't want a big inventory either. I'm hoping to keep it at 1k - 1500. I found my niche , love it .. part time seller and getting better. Thanks for sharing.
@foghornleg90 Жыл бұрын
You are spot on regarding the sell through rates; but the point regarding 'death piles' is very over generalizing, and frankly short sighted. There are many resellers that own their own property, their own storage, and have HUGE INVESTMENT INVENTORY that won't likely be listed for years... or are unique niche items that have high value, but may be listed for years. Personally, I do believe daily listing is important... even if it's revising and relisting, at least 5 days a week. Sell through rates also need to consider MARGIN & cost of storage...

What if you pay $1 per item and say 20-30% STR but because you get your items so cheap you can also be in the cheapest 20 or 30% of available listed and then also things like free returns, great feedback, and Top Rated Plus put you above the competition. I’ve seen this work where you can take mediocre items and still sell them within 90 days doing this method and 5x-10x your money. And then of course you mix in those items that sell for $30 and $40 or more. I think there’s many ways to do eBay. First what’s available in your area in abundance? To me that has to be the starting point. Then to me the fun part is solving the puzzle.
@JrideFlips Жыл бұрын
I do that with eyeglass frames. I would just do this on top of all the good stuff you’re really searching for

@@JrideFlips we are part-timers so really the only thing that makes sense for us is we hit garage sales on Saturday mornings do all of our sourcing in just a few hours then list throughout the week, no way I would ever have time to go to thrift stores every day. Work about 50 hours a week and three kids that are very active with extracurricular activities. I still do hit thrift stores a couple times a week but it’s not our main sourcing. When I do I’m definitely looking for just 100% STR $20-30+ items and only men’s clothing. I want to be out in under 30 minutes. Everything with us has to be efficient streamlined processes. That’s why I just prefer clothing. Sure I’ll grab other things but it needs to be under 1 pound fast easy to store and ship don’t have time to waste. Just as an example, I bought a wallet for $.50 a few weekends ago sold it the next day for $24. It was funny I actually thought about you talking about not leaving money if it’s there why would you not pick it up. Appreciate the inspiration!

My problem now is terrible difficulty finding items. 20 decent items a day? For the past few weeks I've been lucky to find 3-5. There was a span of five days recently when I couldn't find a single item worth my time, even if I was willing to accept a 10% sell-through rate for $5 profit on $5 invested! Couldn't find it. The local thrift shops have really increased their prices over this year, and the local competition of reselling has gotten fierce. Once I counted 3 other guys on their phones scanning barcodes, just within my sight. Oof. And to top it all off, two of the six shops in my area are closing down. And yard sales in this town really stink. Rough times. I've spent perhaps a hundred hours over the past two years looking for options online like Facebook, Craigslist, Amazon pallets, storage unit auctions, etc... and in those two years I found only two items worth bothering with. Everyone charges way too much for what they have, and/or competition with other resellers is driving up the prices. I know most of the casual resellers will eventually give up, can I last until they do?

Is sell through rate factoring in if you sort by price and toss yours a penny less than the cheapest one? Skipping the line. I don't understand where sell through rate and price of item to competition fit. Is Sell through rate just assuming every piece of that item will eventually be sold, whether its in 1 day or 10 thousand days? Many eBay "Watchers" are "selling similar" and undercutting the next guy. just my thoughts
