As for why they overuse the artworks on BEWD, DM, and REBD: I could be mistaken but it's some of the few artworks for these cards that Konami TCG actually owns the right to print for, and for the other arts there's a whole lot of paperwork that has to be done.

first pack i ever opened was a Pharaoh's Servant. Inside was an Ultra Rare Buster Blader. The card is unplayable now due to damage from some angry opponents (folded back and forth several times, making dozens of creases across the middle), but i still have it in my collection, and have a complete deck centered around that one monster, since it still holds a very special place in my heart.

Absolutely Invasion of Chaos for me. I had a very small toy and gameshop about halfway from school to home when I was in high school. I just saved my pocket money for weeks to buy some packs every now and then. The shop owner always kept one pack of the newest set for me. Same with IOC. Pulled a Chaos Sorcerer and a BLS-EotB from that first edition pack. I saw it's effect and was blown away by how powerful it was. It was in my deck until it got banned. I just played random Relinquished Chaos, because those were the cards I had. And everyone at locals always wanted to get their hands on my BLS. Didn't want to trade for their entire collection though. It really was my prized possession. I actually was so mad when it got banned that I quit Yu-Gi-Oh! for years and only returned during the start of the 5Ds era.

Easy way you'll be able to tell the difference between the 25th anniversary reprints of these sets from other unlim. prints will be the copyright on the bottom right corner of the cards, they'll say 2020 Studio Dice etc. instead of 1996 Kazuki Takahashi

Man that was a pure nostalgia blast. I remember my original Legendary Collection folder edition not only did I get the 6 secret rares I pulled Gaia the Dragon Champion from the LOB pack and 1 other secret rare which I can't remember. I've always been lucky when it comes to pulling cards from packs. I went into Woolworths one day during college and brought their last 4 packs of LOB 3 packs had ultra rares, 2 left and 1 right leg of Exoida. Another time I brought a single pack of Metal Raiders from a newsagent and pulled Time Wizard and finally I think my best pull of all was just after the news that Black Luster Envoy was going to be banned, I went into the only place that used to run tournaments in the early 2000's brought 2 packs of IOC and even said to the guy running the store, "Whats the betting I get Envoy Soldier?" and BOOM I pulled him, still own him to this day and even use him still in my deck, I remember Reload being one of the most asked after cards of mine in trades, a do-over was such an op play.

So the entire thing with Hobby vs Retail was that Upper Deck (being a card that also did sports cards) wanted to give people reasons to go to hobby shops. In the DM era the better secret was typically the hobby one. In the GX era when secrets went away retail had ultimates of the rares and hobby had ultimates of the supers/ultras.

To be honest I really like the colors on the old school cards instead of the more bright ones that we have today, especially for the foiling. (For example there is a huge difference in colors between duelist pack kaiba 1st edition cards and the unlimited ones and i prefere the 1st print even if the "recent" ultimate rares have the ultimate foil border)
