I’ve already mentioned this in the video, but I’ll reiterate what I said, as I am getting a lot of comments about Wubuntu: Yes, please don’t download the ISO. Or at the very least, only use it as a curiosity. The way the author of the distro collects information, such as your IP address, and the petty fights he had when this was discovered, makes it an unsafe distro to use. You’re better off building your own Windows 11 skin on Plasma if you’re planning on transforming Linux to look like Windows

Howdy there! Creator of Project 2000 here. Thanks for reviewing my mod! Although it seems you were using an outdated build from 2022, The newer builds are much better as they have a more accurate explorer and a built in sku swapper. I'm already currently working on rebuilding it from a fresh base to get rid of bugs that existed in the mod. Still a really nice review! About Microsoft Store it can be installed iirc but it requires the usage of a script to install it and the microsoft account chooser is somewhat broken in the builds. Most of the removed uwp apps can be reinstalled through powershell, i had to remove them for the sake of accuracy (and mostly because uwp can be a bit slow). Still a very nicely done review! And the next build is supposed to have a built in switch which will allow you to change the entire user interface to the style of XP Classic.

Wow, it’s so awesome to see that the video ended up reaching you! I’ve been using Project 2000 on that HP laptop for the last 9 or 10 months, hence the outdated build, but it’s been going strong! Minus the bugs of that build, like the file explorer freezing on startup (which I didn’t mention because I presumed it was fixed in the new build). I will likely eventually wipe the HDD and install the updated build. Really nice job on the accuracy of the OS, and I can’t wait to see the XP / 2000 hybrid build whenever it comes out Here’s a question to you that I didn’t get a chance to find out for myself? How does the build scale on high DPI screens? I know you’ve got scripts to force 100% scaling inside the Classic folder. Because Windows XPerience would force a high DPI every start up which didn’t really work well on my personal laptop
@fileshredder33619 ай бұрын
@@PocketPixelYT High DPI has the problem that it somewhat screws up the classic theme caption buttons and they remain broken until a relogin. Most of the apps might look blurry at high dpi due to 10's awful dpi scaling on win32 apps and high dpi causes the menu and context menus to lose their 3d effect (it can be seen in your video as the menu bar is white). Otherwise i don't think any major thing really breaks i just forced 100% scaling so nothing breaks as graphic drivers and windows reset the dpi scaling to 125% after being installed on different hardware

Thanks for the video and highlighting issues with WUbuntu. I agree to disregard it, along with the other systems mentioned, not only for any dubious privacy issues but I think it's a stale cliche to make Linux look like another OS. Zorin OS Pro being the exception because of its backing by a company and it seems to do the lookalike thing well without being cheesy. Aside from that, making Linux look like another system is superficial. Drivers. To make Linux run like another system, like Windows, the ability to install Windows drivers - 32bit and 64bit for more unusual hardware, like vintage hard and vintage famous soundcards would give that lookalike attempt true substance.
@Noname-d7j4x8 ай бұрын
3:17 actually, just like "Ubuntu", "buntu" is also under canonical's trademark. Which means that using the name Wubuntu/wbuntu would also be under a trademark, unlike how you mentioned none.
@PocketPixelYT8 ай бұрын
Yeah I understand. “I guess infringing on two trademarks is better than none” is what I said, joking about the fact that both the Ubuntu name and Windows name are trademarked and aren’t being used under good faith

Anyone else remember StyleXP and WindowBlinds and ObjectDock? Man I miss the days of heavy customization AND detail in UI (skeuomorphism, texture, etc.) Nowadays, with everything looking more boring than Windows 3.11, all OSes already look practically the same in design, just moving a few bars around.

I hope there is a Windows 11 copy that is made to closely resemble Windows 7. Personally, I just do not subscribe to the modern flat (or even the new gradient trend) designs, I much prefer the more skeumorphic designs seen in Windows 7 and so on. Microsoft kept making it harder for you to customise the look of your OS, so you’re pretty much stuck with their bland designs, unfortunately.
