I’m trying to get back into drawing. Haven’t done it in years. So many options out there. I got a set of the Staedtler black pencils so I’m excited to try them.

Can these be used over a light pencil under-drawing? Do they erase well? Thank you!

Would you prefer these over blackwing matte pencil?

To be honest I haven’t tried any blackwing pencils so I can’t give much advice. But it looks like the Staedtler’s have a wider range of matte tones available and would maybe be more suited to finished artworks. The Blackwing’s only seem to have one pencil listed as matte which would maybe limit you on what matte tones you could achieve. But I’m not sure really cause I’ve never used them.

In my opinion, any arttist can upgrade ghis work, by using Faber Castewll 9000 and Faber Castell Pitt Matt Graphitte pencils. Jono Dry and all my favorite graphite artists, use these pencils, and from my own experience, this, shows big difference on the final result. Even though I had seen this difference between graphite pencils, since the 90;s I've also seen Jetpens and other knoiwn pages on the interrnet, had charts some eyrs ago, where they analyzed the performance and quality of different pencils. Faber Castell can't be beat. Mitsubishi and other Japanese makers, make great pencils, but their formulas, are more ideal for writing and quick sketching ,rthaar than drawing. That's where Faber Castell, beats all of them. Derwent, isn't even close. Not bad, but not at the level of Germans or Japanese.

Yeah, Faber Castells have always felt great to me regardless of whether they’re graphite or colour pencils
