I work at our small town mini Mart on weekend. We close at 8pm on Sundays. Everyone in town knows it. But yet every single Sunday there is someone who knocks on the glass door & peers inside. I just don't understand what they think a locked door & closed sign means 😂 I think it's because small town people are often too spoiled by Businesses. But I do not allow anyone to open the door after it's locked. I made that rule & it's to be followed 100%. I don't allow my coworkers, especially the younger ones, to get bullied.

I worked with a guy once whose favorite thing ever were people who came after close, because he could stand in a back area where there was a camera, and he'd watch the people try to get in, even though the lights were all off, and they'd look through the window, probably hoping someone would let them in after close, and my coworker would just watch the camera and cackle. 😂

When my sister worked at DQ she had quickly close the doors and lock them at closing time bc there was a dude who looked deranged who tried to run to the other door but she got there first then kept yelling banging on the doors and cussing her out threatening her and he had a knife out. He eventually got tired and left but she said the guy looked like he was on something. She said she ran past her manager to get to the other door to lock it and when the manager asked her what was wrong my sister just shouted "there's a crackhead!!" while bolting past her. It was already at closing time anyhow so even if he hadn't been crazy she still wouldn't have been allowed to let him in.

Ive never worked in retail but i have had a similar experience working in food service. We had closed the restaurant for the night and cleaned up and were getting our things together to leave. Before we did we sat down for a little bit because it had been an extremely busy shift and someone forgot to lock the door. An older couple came in and asked for a drink. The bartender was going to let them sit down and have a few drinks. Mind you, the bartender wasnt allowed to close up by himself because he had stolen from the register once before so everyone wouldve had to wait for those people to leave. I stood up and talked to the couple, apologized for the door being unlocked and the lights being on because i could see how it couldve mislead them but that we were closed. They proceeded to try and negotiate and got kind of nasty after i suggested bars across the street and in the downtown area that werent far from us so i repeated myself and when that didnt work i told them, "Im sorry but my whole team and I are not going to wait another hour for you to finish your drinks when its already 11:30 at night, you need to leave." I then opened the door and they gave me a mouthful on their way out.

A couple minutes after closing on one of my coworkers first day, a man drove up, left his car in the middle of the road and tried to open the door. Then proceeded to knock on it and call the store a bunch of times before trying to peer through the blinds. I told my two coworkers to drop to the floor and we waited while he proceeded to continuously call for ten minutes straight while I kept declining it. Then he went back into his car and “drove off”. (Figured out where he went pretty quickly) I thought we were good but he came back a few minutes later and it started again until he finally gave up. When we initially thought he “drove off”, it was him driving around the back of the buildings because that’s where employees leave and enter their workplace. It’s a door at the back of each shop. He was waiting to see if he can catch us leaving the store. What he was gonna do, I don’t know. We are all teenagers, so it’s pretty creepy to have a grown man acting like a child over POPCORN. It’s a popcorn store that has people acting like this.

Yeah worked in retail for 4 years sundays we close at 4pm earlier than the other shops around us. So people would knock to come in and as soon as we closed i would lock the door and unlock it to let people out. If not customers walk in and attempt to get me to let customers in. I used to work for Starbucks and before the store I was hired for opened, we had pretty much an orientation day so we could meet everyone and see how the store layout would be. We kept the doors unlocked at first until people started coming in asking if we were open. After that we locked the doors and people came and started knocking, and we even got people coming in the drive thru. Happens on the daily. My office doesnt open until 10 and we close for lunch daily at 1pm. I constantly have people banging on my door between 9 and 10am and from 1-2pm while I am on my lunch break. I constantly get the "but you where here and working, why couldnt you let me in? Or "I saw you sitting at your desk at 115, why didn't you let me in!" Mean while, we have big bright neon red signs posting our hours and I have a closed for lunch sign on my door and my open sign is off. I always love to just stare at them when they are banging on my door we are closed. Just because I am present in the building, clocked in and doing other things before we open, or sitting at my desk and eating my lunch clocked out, does not mean I am going to serve you during closed hours.... Also, our office hours are posted on our website and its posted on our website we close daily for lunch, as well, call center lets them know we are closed if they call and complain and they still try to get in. They are very well aware, but yet still get mad I refuse to serve them during closed hours.

I learned my lesson the hard way that if you're closed, don't even open the door to tell them that. I had a guy adamantly pound on the window and when I finally opened the window to tell him we were closed, he threw trash at me and accused me of not serving him because I'm racist. Better to let them throw a fit safely outside than to put yourself at any kind of risk for harassment. 😭

I worked in Burger King for years and we always had our staff meeting in the morning, before opening. One door has left open for staff to get in. People always come in, thinking we're already open. Even with the lights off and a chair in the door, not mentioning the opening hours wrote on the door... One time a guy came in and walked past the staff to look at the menu. We're all looked at him confused, so he turned at us and asked "Oh, aren't you opened yet?" Nobody was in the uniform, we had coffee and breakfast on the table in front of us and one of the staff was writing down things. We just said to him: "Um... no?" and started to laugh 😂 He was chill about it and said: "okay, no problem. I just sit down here and wait for you to open" And that's when we got a little bit mad. I said to him: "Absolutely NOT! You have to wait outside, you can't be in here while we're closed!" People always tried to stay inside and never really understood the laws or the fact that we actually have to do things BEFORE opening 🙃 I'd make it a law for everyone to work in these fields for a year at least. Maybe as a student, after school. But it should be common knowledge. Maybe people wouldn't be this annoying to staff if they actually knew things about these jobs.

I work in a boutique and there's this mf customer who actually had the audacity to come and try to open the door to which i ignored cauz we don't open for another 5 hours!!
