THESE RIVER PERCH were RAVENOUS! - Feb 2024

Join me on a quick morning session on a small local River fishing for its amazing Resident Perch. My plan was to try for a Winter Barbel but this proved fruitless so I changed to target the Perch instead.
It proved a wise choice as 3 beautiful fish graced the net.
Catching them on light gear on the centerpin with free-lined worms made it even more rewarding.
Sorry for the bad sound in some of the clips as it was a very windy day , Hope you enjoy guys , all the best YRR.

Belting stripeys there, Pete! I can never seem to find Perch of that calibre in my local rivers, although I haven't given the worm a go in the Ribble yet. Canal is hard as nails in winter, even though the fish are definitely there! 👍

Yeah they take some locating in the Winter don't they.... there are some lovely slacks n deep holes near the weir on this River so I guess these are the areas they prefer.... seen a few nice Perch from the Ribble on Danny's Angling blog so there in there mate 😉. Cheers Steve, certainly a day to remember that... yeah I'm sure there is some Quality Perch in the Don n Dearne but finding them is tricky in the Winter... we need a session pal b4 the season ends 😉

Had a great season last year there with the barbel and chub but haven't been as much this season but when I have river conditions have been tough. River rocketing through or loads of weed coming down. Did have a few good days in the summer for chub. Hoping to have a few sessions soon before the close though mate.

Lovely perch there, I struggle to find them in winter on my small rivers and brooks. Will have to try maggots or worms instead of lures. Subbed 👍

I'm born and raised in North East Wisconsin, US. Do you ever eat those perch? In my opinion there is not a better eating fish in the world except for walleye! My family used to commercial fish yellow perch in the great lakes, I have cousins That still do. In Wisconsin Friday is fish fry day, and everyone wants perch! Beautiful white flakey meat. Those perch you are catching is what we call jumbo perch, a little to big for eating.

Hi mate, no Ive never tried eating them, not allowed in the UK.... heard they taste excellent tho... a friend in Finland eats them often like.... I would love to fish the great lakes, epic they are 😮. All the best fella & thanks for watching 👍🎣
