I recommend using a men’s razor also. They give you a closer shave and the blades are stronger so they handle coarse hair with no problems.

Yep. As someone who gets thick hair on her chest, sides of her face, on her neck, under her chin, and just about everywhere―similar to a guy or just a gorilla―can confirm that men razors do wonders for me. I never buy razors meant for women anymore.

@@chronewhite4197 Yeah, I would say to look into the reviews. My electric was expensive and it's specifically a men's body trimmer. I was really worried about things getting snagged or cut. Everyone's skin is different too, so what works for me may not work for everyone. Just be careful.

@@Reckless_Witch I have the same one 🌼 and agree totally- is really gentle on the skin due to the covers of the head you can even decide to trim partially the hair without removing it completely- it's a good option for sensitive skin (though think is a trim, so I will grow back quick- but the process is less invasive)

I typically shave while my conditioner is setting in my hair. This helps with giving the skin time to absorb water through shampoo stage and such, and gives time for the conditioner to do its work. I haven’t had much luck with shaving creams (sensitive skin) but I’ve discovered a good natural soap that lathers nicely and has actually worked well with shaving too. For the lotion I tend to have good luck with Neutrogena Hyralunic (sp?) body balm.

I shave against the grain because it gives the closest shave with the least number of passes, so I find it to overall be less irritating and less likely for me to get razor burn/cut myself (plus using a really moisturizing shave cream like Cremo, and the only razor I've found that gives a really close shave is the Suave Hydro Silk (it's even better than the men's razors I've tried!)). Personally I shave then immediately exfoliate with a sugar scrub and don't feel any irritation (doing in the reverse order burns so much)! It really helps reduce ingrown hairs for me. Also moisturizing every day until my next shave helps keeps the hair a tad less "rough/prickly" feeling to help minimize irritation.

I do this as well with an electric razor! No matter what I do shaving along the grain doesn't do anything and I end up having to rub really hard to get even some of the hair to shorten, even then the hair is still clearly visible.

COCONUT OIL!! i used to always get some kind of irritation after shaving until i started using coconut oil after getting out of the shower. idk what it does but i use it straight up after drying off, and then i go in after giving it a minute or 2 to soak in with my usual body moisturizer. i noticed a huge difference and i almost never get any kind of irritation after i shave if i use coconut oil (for extra hydration i mix in a vitamin E oil blend with my body lotion. this is great even when i don't shave) EDIT! I now only use vitamin e oil. its from trader joes and its amazing. I use it everyday in my skincare and all over my body when I shave. love it. highly recommend

Girl I read your comment a few weaks ago and decided to try it last week and I'm so happy I did 😭. I never used coconut oil cause I thought it was comedogenic but it's the only "skincare" oil I have at home so I gave it a shot and I didn't scratch my legs till death this time. It got itchy after a couple of days in some spots cause hair was growing, but I just didn't scratch it and applied a bit more moisture cause the skin on my legs is dry af and I didn't get any red bumps or rash! I have a separate problem with ingrowns, but my legs used to be covered in red irritated spots, it was so embarrassing. I think I was also over exfoliating. Apparently I had to exfoliate less and add oils to my skin instead of over cleaning it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH Dr. Simi for your work, dedication and ultimately decision to create this channel. I'm not sure how you came up in my algorithm, but its the best thing that was ''offered'' to me. I am sure there are other channels on this topic, I never felt the need to look for this subject, but after watching few of your video on topics like period color, period poop and so on, I am now watching the video of shaving, which is so important to me, but never thought to google for it. Now I don't need to see other potential channels, you got me on with this topics but not less important, with your- your clear knowledge, dedication, love for your work and in the world in Y.T. - the way you explain things, factual, to the point as well, and your cadence of speaking is so engaging. So I subscribed immediately during this video, which I will watch again to pay more attention. Basically I found not only a channel I never thought I would need, but also is perfectly produced and thought out. From now on, I can only short support and hope to see your channel grow, because one thing is for sure, WE all have this experiences, and we might ask a friend or a doctor, but not about all the things you talk about in your videos. I have SOOO many questions ( not because I can't google them or I am a young female), but because I am 38 year old female, who never had a child or abortions ( just for contexts) but as I am getting older, the severity of my cramps increase at least 2-3 times per year, to the point I am not able to walk or stay at work, while other months I can go through it with basic menstrual pill. Which still hurts but at least I can walk. I often wonder would it be any different If a was pregnant once in my life, or this is how is going to be for the rest of my life. Getting in more and more and more pain. You may have even answered this in one of your videos, but as I've said, I RARELY subscribed to someone after watching 3-4 videos. But i know for a fact almost, that I got my self a video worth subscribing to. P.S. I will probably ask something particular that I am curious to know why or how, but that will probably happen when the appropriate video is playing and seeing you engage with your audience in the comments, I am even more encouraged to ask if something comes up. All the best of luck, Martina

My leg hair is fine and almost impossible to do a wet shave. The fine hairs will end up limp and sticking to my skin when wet and I have to do multiple passes. So I prefer a dry shave over anything else and couldn’t imagine why anyone will do a wet shave. After seeing this video I finally understand that it only works for me because I moisturise my skin a lot so that’s why I haven’t experienced razor burns. So I eventually wanna move to waxing but until then ladies here is my routine that leaves me extra smooth and has extremely reduced irritation/ingrown/hyperpigmentation. 1.I take a shower and exfoliate with a gentle scrub. 2. I get out the shower dry off completely. 3. I use a menz ELECTRIC shaver to get the hair down as much as possible. 4. Then I use a body oil I made, (use your fav oil/oil blend) and I put the oil over everything I’m gonna shave 5. I shave lol 6. I get back In the shower and make sure everything is clean and exfoliate just ever so gentle one more time with the scrub. 7. I get out, dry off and use some bio oil to moisturize the area. I use Bio Oil because it’s specifically designed to even skin tone. I have noticed a big difference in the appearance of my bikini area. No more itch when it grows back, my skin isn’t dry, and my ingrown/hyperpigmentation has reduced about 98%. I’ve been doing this routine for 4 months now. I shave probably 2-3 times a month. EDIT: for extra extra care, you can use a gentle toner on the skin before applying the Bio oil (or whatever moisturizer you use), make sure to gently message the oil in for like 30 secs. Also if you have some time to pamper, putting a safe mask (same as if you were getting a facial) can be done as well after shaving and before moisturizing.

Good video. I shave in the shower and I've had good results for underarms and legs to go with the grain once over then again against the grain once over. Back of knees with the grain only. Lotion after working in lightly with last motion moving with the grain on my legs. Deodorant applied to underarms using downward motion only. Works for me.

Would be cool if you discussed differences between legs and (for men) face. I started using a better blade but my skin is drier. Started using more moisturizer

There have been times when I chose to dry shave because I missed a patch on my arms or legs. Not only is it painful, but I’m pretty sure some of the bumps have been permanent 😅

I'm a very specific person. I use mens razors. I shave my armpits up and down, side ways and in an x formation up and down. For my arms it's side ways up and down. If you shave the other half of your arm, just shave it like your leg from bottom to up. For my legs it's bottom to up. For my hips it's bottom to up but then i also do side ways. The behind is rather easy i bend over and reach for, but do w/e works for you. For the V it's kind of the longest process. For the outer front hair it's from above to down in a bow formation as you notice the hair grows like that. Then slowly from top to bottom shave it side ways and then side ways from the other direction. Do things in stripes, straight lines, don't scratch over and over, 1 clean slide across, if you need to do it again always apply more of whatever you use to shave, always. For the inner hair just shave from your hips towards the inside. For the cornets inbetween your v and your hips, it's just sideways and up and down. Whatever is left you just have to shave up and down maybe a bit side ways yes even inside of your "lips" just don't rush. Now to keep your hair from growing back fast, buy yourself a laser hair removal tool. Your hair after a couple of uses will start growing back thinner, slower, there will be less of it, instead of black it'll be almost gray because it's weakened and especially for your V area it will start getting almost never irritated after shaves, because your skin is barely covered in thick hairs, there's nothing to irritate. Use the laser as the instruction says. I use mine every month. Sometimes i skip for 1 or two and my hair grows out more but my skin doesn't get irritated still, it's more like i'm covered by more thin hair that i'll have to take longer to shave than thick hair.

This is why I like to use Veet or Nair, especially if I haven't shaved in a while. It doesn't irritate my skin, but shaving can. Plus shaving leaves me with little dark spots of stubble. And I'm more likely to miss spots. I can use razors on my pits or for a touch-up...

@@DrSimiAdedeji I used hair removal cream and got cuts on both armpits. After a few days I got boils on my armpits and they r painful some of them have burst but some are still there and painful. I went to the hospital and was prescribed some antibiotics. I don’t know what to do but one thing for sure I will never use hair removal creams ever again. Lesson learnt

Used these tips today and OMG, what a difference! One pass over each section, with minimal pressure! No itching, soreness and just as smooth, if not smoother than “scrubbing” at my legs with loads of pressure. Thank you so much xxx

Thanks Dr. Adedeji! I exfoliate & use a 5 or 6 blade Men razor. Apply Alcohol, Toner, & sweet Almond oil or Shea butter. I'll be shaving until I'm ready to do Laser Hair Removal on those areas. 😊

Thank you for the tips! And I totally agree with exfoliating. I prefer to use an exfoliating glove a couple of times a week. This helps my skin to look better, have fewer breakouts, and feel even smoother after using lotions or oils.
