The history of native Pacific island peoples and sailing is INCREDIBLE! The feats of navigation alone are completely mind blowing. For hundreds of years, generations unfailingly knew exactly where they were and where they were going.

As a pacific islander i personally think it is also about the micronesians and melansians in a way since the setting of moana occured during the 'long pause' in which the lapita people whom which settled the pacific stopped sailing the seas for a long period of time after settling in larger islands in the pacific such as New guinea, And solomons islands. And after the long pause they begin setteling the rest of the pacific islands such as Vanuatu, New caledonia, fiji, samoa, tonga, tahiti, Hawaii and the rest of melenasia, polynesia and Micronesia. This can be seen in the movie where moana's father banned sailing the oceans for a long time and After moana restored the heart they beginning voyaging again setteling the rest of the pacific islands. And to add on the Moana movie diliveres a very important message, a crisis that the whole pacific island nations are impacted by which is climate change.

Moana literally translates to "ocean" in Samoan, and is a relatively common name there. Fun fact!

Here on the Island of Guam (Micronesia), we would rarely hear of Chamorro names, but the Chamorro names that we do hear every now and again is always "Tåsi" or "Nåpu" meaning "ocean" and "wave" respectively. I guess we all are just unoriginal lmao

LMAO yeah the talk no jutsu was definitely there, but I think that’s why they had the contrast of Te Ka coming at Moana hella crazy and Moana remaining completely calm. Te Ka definitely could have taken her out in that moment, but I think Moana knows that, and it parallels when Moana was having the heart to heart with Maui and she was like, “You can throw me off the boat if you want” like you can come at her hella aggressive, but she is still going to help cause thats her character. So I think that vibe check they had coming forehead to forehead like that was meant to show Moana’s determination to help and return the heart whether she dies or not, but the talk no jutsu sprinkled in was just too good too!! The Moana songs are some of the best!!

The 'Headbut' as you called it at the end is a traditional Polynesian greeting and show of respect. It's called a 'Hongi', depending on whether you are Tongan or Samoan or Maori or Hawaiian it is done differently, sometimes by simply pressing noses together and sometimes by pressing both the nose and the forehead. It symbolises sharing the 'Breath of Life' with another person.

Hi, Pacific-Islander here! Yes, traditional, non-instrument techniques use both the sky and the ocean to navigate. Many of our islands were very small, so we used navigation to find more places to live, and find food. That's how we survived back in the day. :) I'd recommend looking up Mau Piailug, he's the reason why traditional navigation still exists. Disney never gave him credit, but he's real lol. Great reaction, guys! Mahalo for the video!

Growing up in New Zealand and being of Maori descent I grew up hearing the story of Maui and Mother Ranginui and Father Papatuanuku. All Polynesian legends have similarities as all are stemmed from the same story. We are sea faring people, master navigators, people of earth and water. In my family and in my opinion, most Maori whanau (family) we have a close connection and deep respect for our ancestors. We come from a long line of chiefs. I can trace my ancestry back to the Captain of my Tribal Waka (The Canoe by which my people arrived in Aotearoa aka New Zealand). Great movie and great reaction Guys. 👍 Kia Ora

I feel like it’s not really that hard to understand. The heart belonged to her, she got her heart stolen so she turned angry & fiery. Moana held up the heart HIGH & it started glowing I’m guessing bc the owner of the heart & the thwart itself is close to each other. Moana sings to calm her down & she realized that Moana isn’t trying to hurt her. Moana gives her, her heart & all is saved and swell. she’s happy & green again & turns back into an island. simple.
