Who You Are by Jessie J has helped me through the majority of my teen years because of my sexuality and anxiety. I remember playing that song on the first day of school every year after it came out because I wanted to make sure that I knew that, at the end of the day, everything is going to be okay since I found school extremely stressful and at some points scary and depressing. The line of the song that always gets me is “it’s okay not to be okay”, so truthful and honestly helped me get through school. Now, I’m out and proud (gay boys where you at!?!) and are doing subjects that I adore and are so excited to learn about. School is much better, and I no longer hate going (it’s been a true 180 from last year). The song still helps me, however I no longer listen to it everyday. I’m 17 and exiting my school and teen years very very soon (oh ma lord wat?!?). Still have my insecurities like everyone else but I’ve recently been trying to love them for they are unique to me and only me. “My acne scars are my battle scars” 💛
