Back in the 60s when I was a kid local stamp shop had US Zeppelins for 50$ 75$ 100$ mint... good old days
@ThatStampGuy2 ай бұрын
@@JohnnyCollins-cv4gx indeed the good old days. That’s what makes the zeppelins such good investment stamps. They continue to go up in value.

Good video! I would say that the 475 is way too heavily toned for it not to be mentioned on a cert and subtract (substantially IMO) from the grade.

I dont recall seeing that. It may be my lighting. Will have to take another look.

11:29 What would that go for used?
@ThatStampGuy16 күн бұрын
Used is about 4x on this one. Catalogue is $1300. May get 80% of that if sound and very fine with a certificate.
@ThatStampGuy16 күн бұрын
But I should also mention it can easily be confused with a regular imperforate issue that has no value

Thanks for your videos - very informative. Question: I understand the need for certification, but it’s not clear when to have a stamp graded. Several stamps you showed appeared to be well centered, but were not graded. TIA
@ThatStampGuy2 ай бұрын
I only get graded if I think it will be Very Fine or better centering and completely sound with no faults. That way it will be worth close to the catalogue value. See this other video I did explaining the different grades. Go to the 2:20 time in the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jme6aHlqYs56paMsi=91NYhX7J5v8lYOC7
@2020VA2 ай бұрын
I thought a couple of the stamps that you included in this video would have graded 80 or better - maybe there were faults. Also, which of the expertising sources do you recommend for grading - most objective in judging centering?
@ThatStampGuy2 ай бұрын
@@2020VAyes they can be perfectly centered but if they have a fault then I may get it authenticated if it’s a more valuable stamp, but not graded. I go with PSE professional stamp experts for my grading. Sometimes Crowe will grade if I’m sending off a large group to him. But 90% I go with PSE.

This was shallow and unhelpful. Simply reading a dozen certificates to camera is of little help to novice collectors who may not have used the process before. And you are far too US-centric. Stamp collecting is one of the most horizon-widening hobbies in the world, so why was every single item here a pre-1900 USA stamp? More breadth needed ....
@ThatStampGuy3 күн бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I appreciate the feedback and understand your concerns. My intention with this video was to introduce the certification process to those who might be unfamiliar with it, but I realize I could have provided more context and practical steps to make it more helpful for novice collectors. As for the focus on pre-1900 USA stamps, you're absolutely right-stamp collecting is a wonderfully diverse hobby, and future videos will aim to showcase a broader range of items from around the world to reflect that. Your input is invaluable in helping me improve and create content that resonates with the wider stamp-collecting community. Thanks again for sharing your perspective-it’s comments like yours that help me grow as a creator!
