Hey all, I realize that this tech is not new but it was a blast to use, especially this summer. If you have any other telescope related stuff you would like to see let me know.

Which one is capable enough to see the rings on Saturn?
@mitchellkchang4 жыл бұрын
@@kairavshah The LT was a little better because it provided a much closer view but either one is fine as long as you use the 10mm lens.
@abood-26394 жыл бұрын
You can see more things with bigger aperture, so the DX can show more detail because of the higher aperture. The Barlow lens can be bought separately for 30-50 bucks

Struggling with focusing on the DX130 may have been issues with collimation, which is the alignment of the primary and secondary mirrors. Whenever it's moved around, bumped, etc it could knock the mirrors out of alignment, so it could have just been an issue of collimation being knocked out during shipping of the DX130. On that note, a word of warning on the LT114. Collimation on the LT114 will be extremely difficult because it's a bird-jones style reflector vs the standard reflector design of the DX130. This is also the reason the LT114 has a longer focal length, despite being physically shorter. A standard uses a parabolic primary mirror onto a flat secondary mirror, while a bird-jones uses a spherical primary and a correcting lens to get rid of spherical aberration, the process of which doubles the focal length in the exact same manor as a 2x barlow lens, so the choice to include a barlow with the LT and not the DX is puzzling to me. The correcting lens gets in the way of any tool used during collimation, which is what makes it incredibly hard. Any mirror-based telescope will need collimation throughout its life, so keep that in mind.
@waynegarrett16143 жыл бұрын
do you know if the new 127 AZ has this bird-jones style reflector?

Beginniner here as well. I got the Celestron DX 130AZ recently, and was immediately impressed with the build quality. I wasn't expecting much since it was only a few hundred dollars. Not sure how you set it up in 5 minutes, since it took me over 30. It's been enjoyable checking out the night sky, especially with my little kids. I think this model is a great value. I hear you about lugging the thing in and out of the house, so afterwards I bought a pair of Celestron astronomy binoculars. Really great to have both options.

Charles i do astrophotography as a hobby. My lens, camera, and tripod weigh more than the dx. It’s bulkier for sure, but it is a breeze to move around. My dad has a fancy telescope and Try moving a celestron cgem 1100 with weights and the 40pound tripod.

Nice review. I'm not sure that the app ever sinks with the telescope as you said. I think you align your phone to the telescope, then your phone takes pictures which the app can 'plate-match' to its database of the night-sky and hence know where your [aligned] scope must be pointing. Sounds like the app had trouble interpreting the pictures your phone took. I would be interesting to know if there are any recommended phone-camera settings. E.g. presumable your phone needs to be focused on infiinity for most objects.

btw, not all telescopes have an upside down image - only reflectors do. Refractors and CAT scopes have a reversed (mirror image) right side up. So the Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 102AZ Refractor will have a right side up mirror image. It will not be upside down.

Love the review, but I am afraid your scope may not have been collimated correctly. Newtonian’s require a precise alignment of the mirror system or the focus will not work correctly. I am sure you would have a superior image of many deep sky objects with the DX if you had it correctly set up! It’s a simple process, but requires a little practice.
@waynegarrett16143 жыл бұрын
did you ensure they were both colimated before use?

if you buy any star sense scopes PT Barnum is looking for you!, they are replacing the computer with YOUR cell phone. but the price is the same as it would have been, had it really came with a computer. hope you don't mind paying 500 dollars more, than a regular celestron power seeker 114mm. btw bad focus is probably caused by spherical aberration, as they use these mirrors instead of a more expensive parabolic mirror!.
