As much as I hate that the Damon/Elena relationship was sacrificed for the Stelena scenes ( ughh .. and we are going to get some more saccharine sweet Stelena going forward)...I actually love that the writers focussed more on Damon /Elena as persons, and their personal relationships. I love how Elena calls Damon out on his lack of faith & trust in her love for him..."You should have known ".. meaning he should've realized that she would never have said the words that Katherine/Elena did and broke his heart. I love that he admits that he made a mistake. l love that he almost goads her into admitting that she overlooks his slip-ups. Because he feels guilty and wants her condemnation. I love that she agrees, vehemently, that she does. No hedging , no sugarcoating. I love that they are able to acknowledge that there are problems in their relationship , even going to the extent of calling themselves toxic. I love that thats how hard they are on their own flaws. Because it is this honesty and realisation that will help their relationship grow. As for Elena's morals ? What morals ? The minute a human Elena decided to continue her relationship with Stefan after finding out that her perfect boyfriend was a bloodsucking fiend, is the moment Elena threw her morals out of the window. Stefan's heinous killings, the detailed , horrific accounts of his kills in his diaries , the names of his hapless victims on the wall, his wiping out an entire village ,his exploitation and assault on young girls...nothing troubles her mind, or pricks her conscience or makes a dent on her morals. She never questions him about that aspect of his life, in fact closes her mind and conscience , wilfully ,and pretends that that Stefan doesnt exist at all. On the contrary....it was always ..Stefan, this isnt you . Stefan you were never a monster. Stefan , you were the perfect boyfriend !!!! Talk about delusional ! Talk about bending morals.! Talk about toxicity.! And talk about Stelena. !!!!!! So what morals are we talking about ? Elena isnt doing something for Damon that she hasnt done for Stefan before. Elena has always bent her morals.for both Stefan and Damon. . The difference is, she never admitted this unpleasant truth, even to herself. Whereas with Damon , she has the courage and the honesty and the openness to admit and accept it. Because, as she herself will later say, they are messy and complicated, but they are "real". I love this acknowledgement and realisation. I love their self - awareness. I love that they try and thrash out their differences. I love their passion and intensity. The searing love. All of which is so apparent in that last scene And I absolutely love how so very pretty they are. Not to forget , hott !! So hott !!

Zuff- the confusion was definitely intentional. Elena is tweaking even worse than she was post killing Connor Jordan/that curse (and the same fears resurface- that she's a monster, that she's like Katherine). This episode is a lot like the parallel Originals one you posted last week where Beks and Klaus were tweaking in the old hospital (which you guys did reference). The atmosphere also isn't dissimilar from when Silas messed with her mind earlier this season to attack Damon, after having made Caroline harm herself at the end of last season. And now Elena has no clue what happened except what she can piece together- it's why she imagines the hotel scene differently to its actual happening. Damon was holding off on telling her originally because he "owed" it to her to tell her to her face (not run away, as Stefan accused him of wanting to do last episode). And, really, telling her over the phone would not necessarily have helped ground her in reality, but it is something where he could have 'fessed up sooner once they were together in person (but the scene where he admits it is another direct callback to when they were in the Augustine cells earlier this season and Aaron accused Elena of being a killer vampire and Damon confessed that he was the one to Aaron). Part of Elena's attachment to Aaron is that she saw he had been through quite a lot similar to herself (losing his entire family) and he was near the forefront of her mind at the time she was last present in herself (they both had regrets about how everything went down), but also she somehow sensed that he had died and it was additionally horrifying her to think "she" (Kat) had done it "herself." On the Liv & Luke front, you had not seen Luke before this episode. But they took the opportunity of having had Katherine running about to introduce a new character who the characters had already met even if the audience hadn't. And Luke initially looks like the perfect "oh, this is the guy Damon joked about Katherine probably having compelled to do Elena's work." Personally I find their reveal scene in that room clunky af, but I do enjoy those two characters. Meanwhile Enzo's extending his presence. Go baby, go (no interruption was ever as much appreciated as his to give them those antidotes). As to the Stefan & Caroline plot here, yay that they earned the antidotes for Delena, ugh at how boring I generally find it. The ending scene... after "Fifty Shades" they needed to have some face-off, it just got really delayed by intervening events (Katherine) happening. Damon is honestly lucky af in whatever sense that if he was going to kill Aaron, that happened before they could have it really out over his whole Whitmore revenge plot and Elena was overwhelmed just getting back on her feet after Katherine stole that time away from her to focus on killing Aaron as an individual act. It's still messy as heck and just the lowest point for Delena enjoyment for me as a shipper, really only made bearable for me by the fact that Damon & Elena not-exactly-breakup--but-very-much-actually-toxic sex is at least hot (not sorry.)

I know beauty is subjective BUT Elena is really the most beautiful girl in this show! Second comes Bonnie obviously, like she just gets more beautiful season by season. But saying that Caroline is “so pretty/beautiful”? She’s just a bit too basic, nothing stands out. Again, my opinion.
