These Louis Erard watches are very pleasing to look at; they put a smile on my face every time I see them. Nice to see watch makers trying new things, regardless if it may or may not be pleasing to the masses. Thanks for sharing!

I've loved Silberstein's work since having a Krono Bauhaus in the 90's and was very excited to see these pieces. Managed to snag a Regulateur and it's a really high quality execution. The thickness of the paint on the hands is truly high end while the bi-metal case solution is definitely something I've not seen before. On the basis that an MB&F or Ressence collaboration piece is completely unobtainable, this will definitely fill that gap for me.

I am a tool watch person, and I really like the Silberstein watches. The Smiley Face would be my go to dress watch. Teddy does a disservice, however, by not mentioning that these pieces were limited editions with only 178 of each made and sold out within minutes of their releases.

That’s true. It’s also one of the more conservative less wacky silberstein designs you can own at a great price even if they are now being sold above retail on secondary. I predict these are going to be going for over 10k someday, as Alain is only doing collabs now and even at secondary prices, these are still less expensive than any other collabs he’s done.
@birjub96472 жыл бұрын
Limited edition never get into cosumers hands, they are bought by shops and brokers who re-sell them after!
@Martin-hk1ch2 жыл бұрын
These were actually available online at retail. I’m sure there are a few flippers out there but there were quite a few independent shops that sold it at retail or very close to retail. Most people got these at retail but I do believe if we want something badly enough and can afford it, it’s sometimes worth the premium.

Spot-on review! I grabbed the white La Semaine earlier this summer and have so far enjoyed 3 great months with it. Teddy’s points about the case construction are insightful. The dial and my affinity for Alain Silberstein are what initially got my attention on this LE x AS collab … and the dial, laquered handset, and applied chapter ring are indeed excellent and just superbly executed. But the distinctive polished grade 5 titanium flank/lug scheme that hugs the blasted case, plus the clever strap integration, have played just as big a role in making this the watch I find myself reaching for every morning. It’s a whimsical watch, yes, but it’s also a serious, beautiful, and super comfortable one, even on a 16mm wrist. I see some comments here implying these watches are toys or overpriced. Seeing/feeling these in person might not convert a naysayer to their unconventional dial design - ok, fair enough - but I’m confident getting hands-on with one would change minds quickly regarding the overall quality of these LE x AS watches. They’re designed and fabricated with excellent materials at a very high level and with great attention to detail!

I got the ,2nd generation in black and tbf I love it . it looks like a Swatch so doesn't attract the wrong attention but to me it's a cool fun watch i was offered one of these but they doubled the price which I thought that was a bit steep so declined I have begged them to release a unbranded version of their Leeds United special edition chronograph as it's a Snoopy at 10% of the cost which I'm sure would be a massive hit but they said it's not in their plans.. so are sticking with rather uninspiring dull coloured versions instead heyho 🙂
@angelopepe60162 жыл бұрын
Interesting take on these, Teddy. Yes, they are 'different' than what most people would probably go for. But then again, what about Swatch? When they were first launched in 1983, they were juvenile and 'crazy' looking. Nevertheless, they still exist and are going strong. Therefore, the LE showcased here have their space and appeal. To me it looks like a watch the guys at Google would wear. Interestingly cool!

You can go through the usual spiel of "not taking yourself too seriously" and "just having fun" but I don't see how something automatically becomes 'less serious' or 'more fun' just because it's colorful/childlike/random/ugly. It seems very arbitrary, if not a bit dull and simpleminded, to find a straight black line boring because it's straight and black, but a curved red one fun because it's curved and red. To me, Alain Silberstein watches will always look like something you'd find in a Kinder Egg. I don't find it clever, I find it lazy, basic, and uninspired - but most importantly, I just find them absolutely hideous.

@@garyboyle695 1. Alain Silberstein has been making this exact same design for the past 20+ years, so it's not really 'trying something different'. 2.
