With 21 jobs in FFXIV: Dawntrail, these weekly raid loot system are heavily outdated and needs to change. It has been 8 weeks since savage release and Kanima has been reclearing and capping tomestones every week on 5 characters. Even with these, only 2 of the characters has weapon and the rest never won any weapon loot yet. In this video, Kanima rants about weekly limit loot system.

Something id thought about that could help player population and gearing is allow players to 2 chest reclear multiple times a week, but it has to be on different roles. For example i clear M1-M4 as healer and got unlucky af no loot. Let me be able to reclear as tank M1-M4 and roll for gear. Might have to let book stay 1 per week though since being able to get 4 books in 1 week would be op

Role-based clears were definitely discussed often by raiders already. Although the gear drop is probably should be locked to the role itself or else you'll clear on 5 role just to funnel gear into your main lol.

They definitely need to make it easier to gear up more than one class in this game. Like they advertise that "Oh you can play all jobs on 1 character!" as a selling point, yet they make it pretty much impossible to get gear for more than 2, maybe 3 jobs if you are a super hardcore grinder to do current end-game content before the next content patch rolls out. I think they should increase the weekly drops to be like 2 per week & increase the current top tomestone cap from 450 to 900. As someone who is an all-arounder, to use duty support/trust terms, trying to keep my WHM, BLM & PLD geared up enough to be able to jump in & help my FC or other friends out with clears & stuff is a pain under the current system.

While I agree the weekly loot lockout system is archaic, I'm not sure what would be a satisfactory alternative since there are a lot of issues with what you've suggested that aren't really improvements over what we have. We already have crafted gear to gear up any job to be able to do savage if you want to use it to do savage. We have EX trials as a way to get loot without weekly lockout as well. If the top-tier gear is handed to you for minimal effort, it loses the prestige. This is why people were upset with EW relic weapons just being a tomestone dump. There was no real effort for it and you could grind them all out week 1 if you really wanted. Many people did that, had a bad time doing it, and then complained they had nothing to do after. This was unsatisfying and is clearly not the way to go for a sense of endgame progression. If you want to participate in the weekly gear grind in even-numbered patches, go for it. If you don't want to do it in weekly bits, just wait for the next odd-number patch when the loot is unlocked.

Would be great but unfortunately upcoming ultimate needs current BiS so you do have to farm it. And if you're in PF because of timing reasons and unable to have a static, then unlucky people will take months just to get 1-2 weapons. Imo this "unlucky" part is the one that needs changing because you shouldn't be punished for not having static and being unlucky.

The EW relics were hated for being boring to farm compared to older relics. Nobody complained it was easy. Also it's an not about getting the gear easily but in a reasonable pace. the difficulty should only come from doing the fights while they're current content, not because of the garbage loot system artificially inflating how long it takes to get your reward. The game is marketed around multiclassing and this system forces you to spend a tiers life span gearing only one or two jobs. Getting gear from clears more often doesnt mean you will clear more often because pf randos will grief you all the time. There is practically no pReStIgE to these items that are going to be gear crept in every patch and unsynced next expansion. This games loot system is an absolute archaic joke and this man's suggestions are infinitely better than what we have now.

oh shit stumbled back into this channel and hes playing XIV my main game lets goooooo but yeah the loot system is fucked for a game where all of the classes are on the same character, if you are someone who would play alts in another game its pain. Even skipping all the cutscenes getting another character up to speed just with msq is miserable.

Honestly they should just change it so if you don't get gear for the week you can keep going back in for a 2 chest until you roll some loot. It's not as if clearing once and getting a book should lock you out from getting upgrade mats or armor. They should also let you trade books up as well, so if you wanted to delay your armor BiS, you could use those books to get weapon books instead. Just feels really bad to clear a savage and walk away with no loot. I'm curious if each clear dropped like 2-4 pieces of role loot instead, so each role would see separate loot drops, idk if this is good? All I know is as is, the gearing system makes mercenary parties very lucrative for those looking to profit.

Agreed. Maybe keep the system to be more like the normal raid so you can keep running it until you get 1 piece for the week which will also add replayability. Unfortunately merc runs are lucrative because of the bad loot system and people don't wanna deal with it hence why they would pay to skip it.

just one of the many many many things that FFXIV needs to change. the gearing is awful not because of the grind, but because of how boring and samey it is every single expansion. it's the safest, tamest MMO on the market, and that's actually unreal. it's very sterile.

To be fair, gearing imo is not important in MMO aside from "meeting the gatekeep check". Most just want to enjoy doing raids/combat and other stuff. Besides it probably samey because of taking 8 weeks for weapons instead of let's say 4-5 weeks then you're BiS and free to run any content you want like ultimates after that.

the reason for 8 books for a weapon is p obvious--so everyone in the savage team gets a mountinstead of the group breaking after 6 clears or something stupid like that. changing it from anything but 8 would be insane. that said i think chest piece could stand to be 4 books with everything else as 3 or less

Sounds like it is time to drop 2 mounts per clear lol. Understandable for the 8 weeks on mount but can be easily fixed as well imo.

I hate the loot system the fact that not everyone gets something is not fair, and the fact that even if you lose every roll, you cant roll for another week is stupid. Savages are so much work I think every player deserves all the prizes, you put hours into learning a fight to clear and often your reward is nothing but the book. If we cant have personal loot, we should at least be able to roll as many times as we like a week, or at least roll until we win something like current alliamce raids. Savage loot is the dumbest system in the game, somebody could possibly win every peice of loot that drops if they were lucky enough that week, and 7 players in their party could get nothing.

It's in SE's benefit to make gearing take as long as possible (while still adding insurance to unlucky players) as that means players will stay subscribed to the game for longer. This applies to both savage drops and weekly tomestone gear. The only content worth getting savage gear for is that same savage tier, the upcoming/current ultimate for that tier, and criterion savage. Most of this content isn't even in the game right now, so once you're done gearing you can unsub until content you want to do comes out. Since that content won't be coming for several months, they need to stretch gearing your characters up over those several months. Doesn't matter if you like or hate how it's done, SE needs people to stay subscribed to the game to make money. It's the entire reason why games have dailies and weeklies; companies want you to log in every day, every week, so you can keep spending money. Also, realistically speaking this only matters for players who A) do criterion savage and ultimates AND B) want to play different roles/armor type jobs in that content. All other content is doable with melded crafted gear. I honestly don't see what the problem is.

SE has come out and openly stated that they do NOT have any desire to make a game that forces people to have to play their game for extended amounts of time. You play for what you want then you stop playing until the next content is released that you enjoy and SE is fine with that. If people want to have a more consistent gearing experience in FFXIV, join a static with a consistent group of players and gear up. Not getting the boots coffer to drop? Well that is what books help to fill the gaps on. Now that you can convert white books into any other book is awesome and really makes getting what you need that much easier to fill those gaps.

@@sgazaway You're using that statement slightly out of context. SE doesn't want people to spend hours upon hours every day grinding content for rewards. The game is made to respect people who work a 9-5 and want to log in for an hour or three then go to bed. HOWEVER, it still benefits SE to make things gated weekly as it enforces people to stay subscribed to get what they want. You mostly hear the "unsub and go play something else" sentiment when we are in the content lull of a x.5x patch when there is legitimately nothing new coming for several months. Yes you play for what you want... and what you want can take eight weeks to get.

Since you mentioned that this only matters for the criterion and ultimate players, then the argument can be made that you should let the gearing be catered to these players. Other casual players gearing pace does not matter since they can just skip the tier and be fine. On the other side, current gearing system is not good for the ultimate raiders because the jobs you can play is limited due to BiS. Besides, changing the system to give out more gear whether its role-based or in general would just make the game better and if people un-sub from the game, that means that rather than stretching the gearing, SE should've made some other fun content to keep people subbed. If they wanted to enforce people to sub, then this game would be just another KRMMO with dailies everyday but we know that's not what SE wanted the game to be and I sure as hell don't want that either. Just a counter-argument from me.

@@kanimaxiv KMMOs are designed in a way to waste your time so you can spend more money per hour in internet cafes. SE respects your daily time while still making sure you stay subbed by enforcing weekly caps on tomestones and raid drops. Since the span between content drops, particularly content where this gear will even matter, is typically 4-6 months, there is more than enough time to gear several jobs. Most ultimate raiders I know will only play their one job anyways (or flex between jobs that end up using the same gear), and by the time they prog and clear on that job, they could have several other jobs in BIS. You want to speedrun gearing for pretty much no reason. The solution you are looking is something you said yourself; join a static. Could even join a reclear static. It's your choice to suffer in PF and risk getting no loot. And personally, players shouldn't be handed loot for free. Even if your loot lockout was based on roles, you still risk doing the same fight over and over every week for each role only to get nothing.

needing 8 books for a weapon is just sad, i like to use all 4 of my tanks and unless i get incredibly lucky (like this season) its hard to get more than 2 even with a static

This is why I personally think they just need to make a relic armor system. Take the expansion's artifact gear, give it a special glow each tier (compliment the ultimate weapon glow if there's one) and allow you to customize the stats. Also make it require weekly synced clears to obtain. Lastly unlock the raid loot and tomestones after week 1 (to keep world first the same). Bam the raid scene vastly improves since you can farm loot without limit but still need to grind for the best gear for each job. Not to mention the raids would stay somewhat relevant since you need synced clears to obtain the relic armor.

it's crazy because gear is hard to get AND completely superficial. it's the worst gearing system in any mmo I've ever played -- even p2w is at least fun

I don't mind the gear being "hard to get" (realistically, just taking a bit longer to get) but I do think it's a shame that there isn't really much to do with that gear.

Just coming from a P2W MMO, nah its not worse than P2W system that completely invalidates everything since you can buy it lol. But tbh the gear is only superficial for non-ultimate raiders but it does matter a lot for upcoming ultimate. Being able to gear at most 2 roles really limits your option for ultimate when the game advertise itself as being able to play all jobs.

Gearing is fine as it is. you don't need to gear every job in week 2 of a savage tier.

One months should be enough to fully gear one job. The game has 21 jobs now and it is only going to get worse. Especially since SE refuse to put any other ways to get gear.

@@dragonmares59110 what is your point? just because the game has 21 jobs (or more later on) does not mean that you should be able to gear them all out in savage level gear in a single tier. Pick your job you want to main for the tier and gear it. the rest can be geared in the off patch when you get things like augmented crafted and higher tomestone capacity.

@@dragonmares59110 and for the record, anyone can gear a job in a month currently. you may not be able to in a PF setting since you are grouping with different people each week that each have their own goals for gearing in that week. If you want a more consistent gearing experience, join a static for the tier and gear in a more consistent environment.

It is fine but it could be better. We don't need to gear every job but if you're prepping for ultimate, you can only really play your BiS jobs which will be very limited. You might think that's fine but if FFXIV advertises itself as a game you can play all jobs then know that it doesn't include current ultimate which in this case, the upcoming FRU. If you're not an ultimate raider then your opinion for gear is invalid anyway because the whole gearing system does not matter for you and you can just skip the tier and be fine. This applies to static as well since weekly tome limit is still there and you can at most, gear 2 different roles before the next ultimate comes out. Your opinion is on the side where you don't need to gear every job fast but at the same time, there's no reason why it can't be fast as well. Role-based loot can allow you to raid once for each role or cheaper book cost will just make it better. There's not really any downside to it imo.

@@sgazaway a single savage tier is roughly 4 months. That should be plenty of time to gear all your roles if you want to, there is no end-game beyond savage, until the ultimate comes out. So there is zero reason to lock it down so hard. BiS is an absolute requirement for the ultimate as well, so it should definitely be easier to gear up than it is to clear the fights. Especially with how painful the PF experience is overall, spending so long clearing a fight and dealing with people's idiocity should feel more rewarding.

Merc runs are outlier imo because it is like paying gil for gear. But the reason why people are willing to pay for gear is because of the cringe system in place. So the fact that merc runs is there is due to the flawed system imo.

If they did this you would get 0 loot week 1, which means the 4th floor would need to be undertuned, which means it would be an absolute joke with gear. This would make the tiers a lot less satisfying for groups who prog over the course of a few weeks (or even months). Honestly, I think this gen z "remove literally anything that could potentially feel bad from games" mentality is a large party of the reason that modern games feel so sterile and boring.

​@@nulanula9331 he is arguing to remove rewards from the raids altogether and make the only way to gear with books, then lower the costs slightly, which would make it impossible to get gear week 1 outside one accessory per player. And nobody would get a weapon until week 4.

You’re not guaranteed loot either way week 1 as it is, unless you’re in a static being fed gear, do you need to be in a static to complete the tier?

The gearing system is bad because there's nothing to do with your gear for 4 months except parse and make content considerably easier than it's supposed to be. You might as well just remove gear completely if you're going to turn it into a system where you receive BiS after a set period of time with zero variance. It's a dumb idea.

I specifically mentioned to lower the book cost of each piece into 1 book for accessories etc. Also why would you think the 4th floor will be undertuned when most groups clears with full crafted gear? None of the savage tier was ever hard in the first place and tuned to around min-ilvl so skill issue was your issue. If anything it would make the tier more challenging because you cannot funnel gear into your best DPS job player so you can easily meet the DPS check. Also I don't think anyone really enjoys feeling bad from games because you never won any loot for weeks in savage tier and be stuck on lower ilvl with barely any tome gear.

I Dislike " Time-Gated Features " in general. BeastTribes/WeeklyTomes/IslandSanctuary/Dailies/Turn ins & yes Weekly Savage lockout etc even if its there for balancing reasons. My issue with Savage loot/TomeCap is that it's not " Fun ". I made 37million gil this tier providing merc lootmaster run services I guess? cause demand. I just dislike Effort = Not Guaranteed rewards if not in Static. I had good RNG before luckily joining a Static + locked out from Raiding with Friends if you cleared. I gotta make a 3rd Raid ready character if I wanna do this? like come on... its not fun

Agreed. Its understandable with the system to prevent you just blasting it week 1 but imo right now, 8 weeks for just 1 weapon because you're unlucky is way too long.

@@kanimaxiv Yay I recalled a friend getting their Mount on week 14 in EW? which being the only reason they wanted to do Savage... I life and breath PF myself join it, get loot through RNG and join the Static so the Static can get gear faster by me not needing as much. But the main thing for me is " Fun ". Like I can't even help friends is a big downer... I am leveling my 3rd raiding character ( can make money with it next tier ) but even this I have to talk to " Wookie Leemur " 100 more times to get MSQ done and unlock Savage

@@nyrahl593 Yay XIV's current Raid format isn't bad? its even the 1st MMO I started raiding (all other MMOs were PvP focused) it coulda been far worse from P2W/RNG enchantment-enhancements /Higher gear requirement/heavier grind prepwork/Worldboss dropping 1 BiS out of 200 people that can get it / imbalanced classes - it can be so much worse? but what XIV is right now... its alright? but it could be more " Fun ". Immediate BiS is not the aim? but it being more satisfying would be something
