They do it intentionally because the westerners have a stereotype that Africa is poor even though Africa is not homogeneous, ethnically, economically or politically. There are many countries in Africa that are middle income countries. And there are high income countries. But even in those countries you will still find the media going to the poorest parts of them. It's truly pathetic. A similar thing happens with America aswell, like "the Bronx" in NYC. Even tho the vast majority of The Bronx is not bad and one of NYC richest neighborhoods is in the Bronx. You will still see the media paint the Bronx as "dangerous" and go to the bad parts even tho most of it is not al just like anywhere else. It's just selective bias

I assure yoj when you live in the States you'll find that the price of living is much cheaper in countries like this. I'm South African and it always annoys me when people come to African countries and paint them like this. They want nothing to do with the people or the culture but act as if they are there for the people. There was a situation where a church group was exposed going to the poorest part of Mpumalanga (one of our provinces) saying that they're doing charity and helping the community. When it turns out when they arrived here they just took pictures with people mainly children living in poverty and read the Bible to them. As if South Africans don't know christ, our anthem is practically a prayer. They also claimed to build things like toilets and stuff in the community even though THEY WERE ALREADY THERE.
