Hi, Alexander, Happy new year! I missed the livestream but as always it's interesting to watch and I always learn something new. Keep it going. 🔥

I just got aquatic plants from the wild what do I have to do to get it ready for my fish tank with transferring bad worms or bad things that can harm my tank or fish
@Fishtory7 ай бұрын
Honestly the only common thing is snails...and insects larvae . Soak em in tap water for 2 or 3 days usually everything drops off.....and inspect for eggs or inch long dragonfly larvae that eat fish

Could you do a video where you test the water in each of your tanks? Preferably showing nitrates, pH, alkalinity and hardness

I will on a livestream update sometime soon. I have in the past casually during streams, but i dont recall which/ when i did it last.

Was so tempted to make the stream and lurk earlier but wasn't trying to burn the Korean bbq short ribs I was making. You know how that goes with the wife when you ruin dinner, happy wife equals happy life lol.

Have the gold rings and love them. I think I have all males. How can I be sure? Thanks
@Fishtory Жыл бұрын
So the males will get a very subtle blue or red hue to them...almost a opal color or reflective looking color on the fins under the right lighting. Also females will have a belly full of eggs in the warmer months usually, and you can see a belly bulge in them frequently. Those are really the best ways.... technically their barble length is supposed to be longer in males...but its like 1mm vs 2nm ...hard to tell.

Am I the only one wishing he'd make a world history Channel spin-off?
@Fishtory4 жыл бұрын
I've debated it many times, as I have lesson plans from my thesis classes in university still ....however I'd need another editor or artist to make it more interesting... if you know anyone wanting to collaborate, I'd love to work on that

Hey do you have a shop down in Seattle? Because I live near there and I love aquascaping and I would love to see if you have a shop.
@Fishtory4 жыл бұрын
We have 3 aquascaping shops within about 20 miles. One small one in Bellevue owned by Fiona Tu ...world renowned aquascaper, then our main staple in town is Aquarium Zen and Steve Waldron (Amazonas contributor and Amazon,com biosphere aquascaper). It serves as a "normal fish shop" as well, great tissue cultures and plants. Mostly nano fish. Lastly Red Fish Blue Fish out on Whidbey Island is now open and they specialize in strictly high end and rare European imports or rare breeds of fish. They are appointment only, but "Jason" is the owner and a good friend of mine, you can reach out to him and check inventory at Redfishbluefish,shop

I bought a 20G Long for my Betta. I am giving him more room to swim, yet not too high that would not be too troublesome to get air. Same for my Bronze Cory Cats that also pop up for air. So, what substrate layers do you recommend for this 20G Long and how deep should it be for a male Double-Tail Betta, 2 Chocolate Kuhli Loaches, 2 Bronze Cory Cats, and a Dwarf PeaPuffer, plus 4 Nerite Snails. I am also considering a shoal of the CPDs or the Purple Emperor Tetras. Thanks for your recommendations. I have them currently a 6.6G. And, I also have a 55G 21" Tall Community Tank room-divider that I am also starting at the same time. What Substrate layers and how deep should this be? Currently, I have a few Quarantine Tanks started that has the fish for this tank are: 5 young Chocolate Kuhli Loaches, 4 Bronze Cory Cats (2 2" and 2 1.5"), and 5 young Brown Bristlenose Plecos. These are in 3 separate 5G Quarantine Tanks. I have 4 Nerite Smails in with the 5 Chocolate Kuhli Loaches. I have been thinking about getting a pair of the Electric Blue Acara to add later. This is a room divider so it will have 3 sides of viewing, one narrow side close to the wall. Again, thanks for your recommendations.

Is there a way to test calcium in fresh water? Do the salt water tests still provide an accurate reading? How do you know how much fertilizer is in your tank so not to over or under dose? That's mainly my issue and I've been watching your videos but no mention of any TESTS to use which the numbers help me a lot!
@Fishtory4 жыл бұрын
Well nitrate tests tell you your nitrate levels... and they make calcium, gh/kh tests too all liquid by API... I have used those once in a while...but I mostly just watch the plants, look at cues like snail shell thickness or shrimp shed clarity vs opacity and slowly turn things up with liquid fertz l, assuming their dosage methodology in the instructions is correct... but I usually cut the dose in half so that I can correct for overdosing or underdosing...but its not a simple thing honestly...years of knowing what plants should look like vs how they CAN look , combined with other things like algae and water clarity

I converted a guppy to a 100% saltwater once. I gave it to an aquarium store so he could be converted back to fresh water.
