During the mid-80s, zoologists still regarded the European otter as a species on the verge of extinction. What they did not take into consideration was the fact that the shy aquatic animals are extremely adaptable. Using their intelligence and cleverness, they have been able to re-conquer parts of Europe during the last few years, including their old homeland, Austria.

There might be a reason why otters kill more than they can eat. No one should poke their nose in the food chain. That waste can be food for other animals.

If u don’t like a certain animal.. than move to the city or just somewhere else. Away from that particular animal. U don’t trap them or kill them. They breathe just like us human.. they feel pain too. Like us they’re only trying to survive. So.. love thy nature. Great documentary!!

U should see my cat running down the hall In front of me when I am bringing his wet food to his bowl. it’s precious ! Never knew a cats little legs could almost just float on air but he happily runs down the hall ahead of me to wait for me to give him his portion of wet food each day lol. It’s so cute. He doesn’t care as much about the dry food he free eats lol. But if he knows I’m opening the cabinet where his food goes ? He gets so happy !

Scott, beware of anybody who tries to tell you that communists have a good enviromental record! Environmentalism began in the western democracies, as soon as people were no longer to poor to care about anything but survival! It never existed in the communist countries until the communists were out of power, and in China, where the communists are still in power, complaining about the environment will get you thrown into a prison with connections to an organ transplant hospital!

@@haroldhahn7044 not really. Communism manifests in different ways, China is a high-level producer of commodities with a high GDP, while the Eastern Bloc has some of the poorest economies of the late 20th century. China has destroyed a lot of its wildlife and ecosystems to get to where it is, as incidentally, did a lot of western democracies in Europe post-Industrial Revolution. Only from the late 20th century has Western Europe started conservation at a large scale.

Wonderful documentary.Brings back memories of my otter years in the N.W. Highlands of Scotland. They were accused of going for the fish farms fish. However the analysis of their spraints proved 80% of their diet was crustaceans. They were some of the happiest days of my life, watching the ever playful otters. Read 'a ring of bright water' by Gavin Maxwell. :)

Me too. The documentary is great very impartial. I love otters, and it all started, I don't know if you know about them - Hana and Kotaro and their best friend Captain Aty 😍. They are a small Asian clawedcotters, live in Japan. I have never seen how noble smart wonderful animals are in my life. They are hilarious, and especially Hana who is the biggest glutton of salmon in the world. And Matt Stonie would be ashamed. 😂😂😂 From them , I and millions of other people have seen and learned a lot.

This observation documentary is the most beautiful thing I have seen, not disgusting documentaries, mespecially about Otters, behind the scenes of famous organizators. This is a wonderful catalyst for emotion and a wonderful narrative simplicity. I hope thevchannel reaches its peak one day - people will recognize the truth and then become aware. I adore otters, they are magnificently, wonderful, and it all started with - Hana and Kotaro and their best friend Captain Aty. They are a small Asian clawed otters, live in Japan. They are so smart,,fascinating, good, I just never saw it. They are and hilarious. I saw the best mom and aunt in Kyoto. They are the same a small Asian clawed otters. Otsuyu became the mother of two small babies raised together. Millions of us watched when that noble Otsuyu was born. The wonderful stories of all the above protagonists in the sequels. I must point out that Hana is the biggest salmon glutton in the world, and Matt Stonie is no equal. Hoopla 😂 Thank you for this impressive and grandiose video and I wish this great channel at least a million subscribers 💫💫💫💫& thank you KZbin. ❤

An amazing presentation. Was amazed one day while driving a truck in East Texas to see an otter had been hit by an auto near a bridge crossing a small creek. It confirmed to me that the species was reemerging in this part of America. I had never seen one before. Amazing, that at the same time period, it was happening in another part of the world. Witnessed around 2008.

Water cats hehehe (: and wow. Those poor otters that were trapped and killed looked like recent photos more than a century old .... hmm. Sad. Over conservation can be just as dangerous as eradication of certain species within an ecosystem... that’s when man forgets there must be BALANCE.. can’t be too extreme in any direction.

I wonder how they get this footage? I can understand the frustration of the fishermen. Last summer I had copious amounts of slugs ravaging my green beans and flower beds. It's was so annoying and frustrating. I tried everything to kill as many as I could. In the end I ended up hand picking them off my crop every evening. 50 and 60 at a time. It was insane. I hate slugs. I can understand the frustration then when dealing with something as vital as fish. But I love otters. They don't need eradicated. Any more then protecting around your fish pond is too much.
