Pfaff explains their choice to set Forward and Reverse feed rates to be non-matching. See page 49 of the Pfaff 230 Maintenance Manual for an example. Basically, they say that Reverse is most often used for backtacking, in which case you don't want to stitch in the same holes. They go on to describe how the ratio can be adjusted for equal length stitching "e.g., for leather work".

You just made my day! After 7.5 fruitless hours of adjusting nearly everything, I finally noticed that my 138-6 was about 30 degrees off 😳 ! Now it runs like a charm. Thanks a lot!

I'm looking at a Pfaff 138 thats up for sale as I write this, it's missing one upper tension knob, asking $350 with table and clutch motor. What a helpful, well done video! Out of focus a little bit at the end but still it "so gets the job done". Thanks for taking the time to help the rest of us to really understand the details.

Thank you for sharing your process for adjusting the feed dog timing. I just checked mine yesterday - way off. This video made it much easier to understand the process for adjustment - quick and easy.

Thank you for showing this. I like the way you identify the half way position of the feed cam by moving the stitch length lever and look for no movement of the feed dogs. I have adjusted the feed timing on a few machines in order to make it sew thicker fabrics. In this case it can be necessary to advance the timing of feed. Advancing feed timing can also make the feed more stable, because the thread tension works less against the feed movement. For my Singer 201 and Singer 66 from factory, these half way points are about 30 degrees after the point of needle bar stroke at max. For my Pfaff 30 it seems to be about 40 degrees after. It seems to me, that the consequence of advancing the feed timing may be, that the stitch balance becomes more unstable. Do you have an idea of consequence of advanced feed timing?

Hi, this is a great video, clearly described and easy to understand. I have 3 things that I hope you can shed a bit of light on. I just bought mine and both the zig zag and needle position were stiff but not frozen. I used some deep creep and waited and eventually got the ZZ nice and smooth but the needle position is still really sludgy. I suspect there's a point in the linkage that remains gummed up, but can't seem to locate it. Any ideas here? I also see that in the center position the needle is off centre just a bit. Is the eccentric stud at the top of the swing the adjustment for this? Lastly, behind the back plate is a clip that holds a chunk of felt for keeping the mechanism oiled. I suspect the felt is supposed to be at the 12 o'clock when it's at 9 o'clock now. Is this correct? Thanks for any help!

On Pfaff 130, could you tell where the feed cam is. The manual says there are two screws to be loosened to adjust feed timing.

Hey, any idea if i can make a larger stitch length on a Pfaff? Maybe with another feed dog? The max length is 4 mm, its a Pfaff 192, 2 needle and i need a larger stitch length.
@johnmoonen74748 жыл бұрын
Hallo Sergeant,your video is verry helpful,and the timing on your 138 has also worked on mij 134 / 234 (without zig-zag) The only difference is there where 3 screws to losen the main drive-schaft in stead of one. After your modification:only the 3-piece transport-foot below the plate is not 100% down when the needle hits the cotton to sew,but this is maybe max 1% of an inch (0,25mm) so i think this is oke. Question: the bobin on my machine is held in place in the bobin-house like al sewing machines,but this house is not 100% thighten to the axel and makes some noise when using the machine (ringkeling sound) I think it supose to fit not 100% tight but i think this is a bit to much . If you mail me back i can make a video of it. John from Heerlen Netherlands

Any clue on how to center the needle of the pfaff 138. I've tried the eccentric screw on the back but that just adjust the position of the zig zag?
@davidbolduc8286 жыл бұрын
Actually I figured out my own answer to my problem as luck would have it. There indeed is an eccentric to adjust the needle bar. It is on the back of the machine at the left front of the machine. There is also a set screw to the right under the arm that has to be loosened first. Then you are good to go.
@sciboy8011 ай бұрын
There is also an adjustable zig zag eccentric inside the head located above the pressor foot that is accessible from the back. It too has a set screw located above this eccentric. I just cannot figure out how to access this set screw. Any ideas? @@davidbolduc828

hi from france, do you prefer pfaff 130 or 138 ? I have the opportunity to buy one this two (To sew of thick fabrics)
@thesergeant35247 жыл бұрын
They're basically identical machines but I prefer teh 138 because of the knee lift and larger harp space. How thick of fabric are you sewing though? You might be better off with a walking foot machine.
