The synopsis for Saturn Run actually makes me think a little more of Hail Mary with the race to investigate and save the planet--but still that's Andy weir so seems like a great recommendation to me--totally picking this up!! Very interested in Here and Now and Then, too
@TheShadesofOrange2 жыл бұрын
Yes I definitely could have paired it with that. I read Saturn Run before Hail Mary came out so I didn't have that book in my head at the time

Thank you for the suggestions. Of the books you selected, I’ve only read The Martian. (I think ‘devoured’ might be a more accurate description; I couldn’t put it down.) A book I picked up because I thought it might have a similar appeal is Adrift by Rob Boffard where a short range shuttle is marooned in deep space after it’s station is destroyed. It didn’t turn out to be the survival story I expected but is a good read all the same. I haven’t read any of the others you recommend but I’ve just started The Ghost Line, on your suggestion, and I’ll be sure to add one or two of these titles to my growing ‘To Read List’.
@TheShadesofOrange2 жыл бұрын
Oo I've been wanting to check out Adrift for a while now

Excellent, I have added “Saturn Run” and “The Wrong Stars” to my next haul - though I struggled a bit with “ALWtaLP”. I would very much like to see more of these recommendation episodes, particularly when you draw upon older books I may have missed. That’s a bit different from the current hotness freewheeling along in the hypewagon, IYKWIM! So, yes, please, more! Thanks!

Glad you mentioned Saturn Run again. I have it, but I forgot I wanted to read it. And I picked up Tim Pratt's books this year, so looking forward to reading these. I'm still working through the reread of The Expanse (halfway thru Cibola Burns), and after bouncing around the Neal Asher Polity universe, I've decided to start reading the rest in the Polity universe in chronological order (Asher has that order on his website for those who wonder how to read them in chronological order). I liked SevenEves. I was expecting something less grand, then when I saw where it was going I kept thinking, "he's not doing that, is he?". He did. And it was an engrossing read. I was getting some Children of Time vibes from it too, in the terms of vast reaches of time.

Who is the "Ctein" co-author of Saturn Run? Sounds like an alien! I can say The Wrong Stars is a fairly easy read for beginner sf readers. What's a good "comfy scifi" read like Becky Chambers? I wish they would put that on tv. All these grimdark shows are depressing me.

One book series that reminds me of "Wool" is 'The Dead Room Series' by Stephanie Erickson. It is three books: The Dead Room, The Dead World, and Alive. My reviews went from 3-stars to 1in that order so the series lost steam and was disappointing. It was similar to 'Wool' - a society on an island is told never to leave because the mainland is toxic with nano-probes in the atmosphere that are toxic to life. I liked the characters and the villains and the loyalty coalitions and such, as well as the leaders' roles and mystery. Oh and if you read 'Wool' there is a short essay by the author at the end which was quite good. Wool itself was longer than it needed to be and the sequels I may read, but not now.

Yeah I'm excited to get into Wool. I'm not sure about the sequels
