If that was the case, Gypsy's nearly catastrophic trial-run worsened that impression more. Sucks they weren't able to change that in Hong Kong's aftermath.

Sure he and his father topped the record for most kills on that day, but also they’re piloting what was technologically, the Best Jaeger made at the time

Yeah, Chuck is pretty full of himself, and obviously doesn’t think Raleigh’s the guy for the job however, Beckett earns his respect in the end, while making a connection with his absentee dad one last time before detonating Striker Eureka like a hero? Its a multi faceted character arc, which makes the viewer sympathize(and even like) Chuck at the end. Credit to the writers on this film.

I'd argue Herc is arguably one of the very best pilots and while Chuck is arrogant Herc really is the one driving the car so to speak. Its his experience and his capability that made Striker so successful. "First and Last of the MkVs" is always an interesting line to me as it can be interpreted in two ways. She was the first and last built. Or, she was the first built and the last to survive.

In Australia (depending on the state) we learn Japanese and/or French, so we kind of use them as secret language - so it seems a little weird that Chuck and Hercules don't even speak a little Japanese as that's a mandatory class from 5yrs - 15ys across the broader coast state (Which is where their accent comes from).

One of my siblings also learned Chinese (Mandarin) in a different school. It's not just Japanese and French that's taught in schools, it's very diverse. Also, the private system and public system operate differently so not all schools will have the same languages.

i think usually if you listen close enough, the dub audio and the original audio sounds a lot different from each other. so my guess is that they kept her speaking Japanese, but left the original audio in and let the audience tell the difference

Releigh may have Gipsy, but Chuck has Striker Eureka, which is a class 5 Yeager, and Gipsy is only a class 3. While Raleigh is a better fighter, that will hardly matter when you’re in a giant slow robot. Also, Eureka is alot faster and his punches do more damage, so the only thing stopping him from turning Gipsy into dead weight is his co-pilot, his dad, who would be holding both of them back.

The thing is, Chuck has a right to be that arrogant. He's a genius, he's got the record to back up the attitude... Not really, his father is probably the reason that Striker Eureka has so many registered kills, because Herc is a very skilled veteran pilot, vs his greencard son who's only used to speed and likely just following what his father does. Though, the way he goes out does give me a bit of respect for him. He does know when it's time to sacrifice himself for the betterment of mankind itself.
