The problem with the 2019 Cats is much more than CGI, the directions that they took and not having many professional dancers like they had in the 1998 version. Although it's hard for me to truly know since I refuse to even watch the 2019 Cats. I have seen the 1998 version and that is a pleasure.

It would have been my absolute dream job to perform in this show. It’s my fave! I left dance as a teenager but a boy from my ballet classes went on to work on the show later on. His pictures of him in full costume and make up of the various characters he played are amazing!

Been watching a bunch of behind the scenes stuff and honestly, I just love that all the cast seem like just as much fun off-stage as they are in the show :) it's weird seeing them only halfway in their costumes, but it's worth it to get to see them smiling at the camera, joking around with each other and with the makeup and wardrobe people, and just generally having a good time

One of my friends who’s a dancer was a swing cat and she said a lot of the time they did their own make up and in the dressing rooms it was chaos but the cats look awesome and the feel of the costumes is so silky I thought as when they come put into the audience they let you pet them on the shoulders on back like a real cat sometimes they’d rub against you and once I got a make up stain on the back of my hand as the can actor’s cheek brushed against my hand as I petted his shoulder when I later met the cast backstage I showed them it and they were laughing saying a little keepsake of the show took a photo off it before I rubbed it off

actually, the actors do their own makeup in the show. Because the makeup had to look the same for every shot ( they filmed over three months) they had artists do the makeup for this.

@@rancidprince3133 yes I'm very well aware they do their own make up as I stated. For the 1998 film, the make up had to look the same for every shot so instead of having the actors do their own applications, makeup artists were brought on to do their makeup to ensure that every makeup would look exactly the same for each shot as they would be filming over a period of 3 months. In the stage show it is custom for the actors to do their own makeup. The actors are taught one on one with the makeup designer (usually - in the case of the 2016 broadway reviva and subsequent tour, the makeup used was designed by Karen Dawson, however she was not involved with the production and most of the actors were taught how to do their makeup via facetime or zoom) The makeup designer does half of their face and they have to replicate the other half. Cadence Carell was responsible for the Broadway/US Tour make up designs, her makeup credit was removed in 1999 due to a conflict with the producers.

I bought some basic makeup supplies a few months back and learned to do this (with the help of a friend who had experience in drag makeup), and even though it was my first time doing it I think it turned out pretty well. I dunno if people do local productions around you or anything, but you could always look into stuff like that?

In the 1998 movie, that would be Veerle Castelyn. The character’s name depends on the production, but in most UK based productions (and in the 1998 film), she’s called Jemima. US based productions usually call her Sillabub. Everywhere else varies. She was dubbed by Helen Massey, who is now an opera singer, but was a teenager at the time.
