How broken are The Sims 4 Weddings?

Hey there. So learning dance wouldn't work for James led me to investigate a bit deeper into that interaction. This is a very big bug with the pack I had not discovered until this morning. It turns out none of the situations in this pack are triggering correctly, which won't let the AI do the things that you expect them to do. They get stuck in 'Arrival' the entire time the wedding is going on. So my toasts worked great, I heard, but dance doesn't and this is the why. I'm working on a fix this morning that will make those parts of the party work, too.

Its broken. Don't give EA any excuses. You cannot recreate the trailer, that's broken. It was broken in their own official livestream and they released it as it was which is pathetic. The release day patch did nothing. The patch to fix it should be a complete fix and they shouldn't come back until it is. They literally sold a game that doesn't work, in any other instance that would be a scam and false advertisement

In my experience they still don’t sit. At my sims’ wedding, the guests all crowded in the aisle, preventing the ceremony from starting at all, wouldn’t sit when I clicked that command, and then pissed themselves in the aisle on a lot with three working, accessible, unoccupied bathrooms. 🙃

What a great idea to compare the pack with and without Carl's mod. I have to give Carl props for attempting to fix the many problems with the pack. I suspect that he'll keep on working on his mod, but it's sad to say that I fear the Sims team won't make any meaningful attempt to get the pack working.

Yeah I hate the fact that it completely replaces the wedding system. I'm on console too so I just know this going to be bugged to shit and that we may never get fixes. Just not going to buy or update until I know an update isn't going to break the rest of my game. I haven't updated since Cottage Living due to all the other updates breaking my game.

I kind of wish that the wedding worked more as a whole cued event. Like, you would click what you wanted for the ceremony in the planning window and then the whole event would just go without having to cue each thing individually. Then the reception could have just worked like normal gameplay. It would be a lot less micromanaging.

I feel like that would make it even more of a nightmare tho, considering some actions aside from the wedding ones may take priority (like peeing yourself/dying/falling asleep) so it may cancel queued actions and may mess up the actions of everyone else. That’s probably why it’s a select event kind of thing

Why would they invest more time and money into developing something when they know that people will pay just as much money for something this broken? It's completely in line with everything they have done since the original release. Rather than fix issues, they create new ones and charge people for them. One detail i wouldve liked in this pack is a wedding portrait once your sims are married. The same way Sims get after graduating, i wouldve liked this feature for a married sim couple, something that is placed in their inventory amd we can hang it up in their bedroom or smth. Would be so cute. Or the ability to take our own screenshots of our sims wedding and frame it around the their house. Would be such a cool feature.

In the UK you're legally not allowed to lock the door to the building where the wedding is happening. It's one of those old laws from times when people could be forced to marry. I used to work at weddings and I remember a bride saying she wanted the doors locked so that her crazy ex couldn't come in and disturb the wedding and I had to tell her we couldn't. Instead, she ended up having a couple of male guests as bouncers at the door lol!

I already tried about 5 weddings on different lots, official ones and ones I build myself, with mod and without, with autonomy on and off. It's impossible to make it look like a nice wedding. I kept resetting them to clear their queue as well. Honestly, I tried everything I could think of to somehow make it work. It simply doesn't. I think this is the one time giving early access to popular simmers backfired on EA lol. We got to see what a broken buggy mess this pack was and I’m sure their sales are suffering. I just hope this doesn’t discourage them from letting simmers get early access. I for one am grateful. I was super excited for this pack and would have bought it if not for watching all these videos. I worry they may try something where you only get access a day early or something I’m the future though. Plenty of game companies have done shady things when it comes to releasing review copies and reviews in general.

More seriously, I have a feeling they would have done a a lot better with designing this so you chose all your options for the entire ceremony beforehand and then it basically played out like a cutscene unless you interrupted it. Unrealistic? _Absolutely._ But it would have worked. They could have used AI to determine the trips and head bumps and kiss flubs and when people joined in on stuff, but all the clicking takes you out of the flow of the event and, well, IT NOT WORKING is _incredibly_ frustrating.

I don't think that would be unrealistic. In real life people do plan their weddings in advance. The people involved in the ceremony know what they're supposed to do in what order because it was planned, and because they know what normally happens at weddings for their religion/culture.

I wish once you assigned roles to the wedding party, that once you’re at the wedding and start the ceremony that they would just automatically walk down the aisle in the order of who you have participating rather than manually making everyone walk down the aisle. Then you could just watch the wedding play out nicely instead of micromanaging the entire wedding. Hopefully they at least get it functioning. 😬

Yeah, they could have a part of the wedding planning UI where you set what order you want things to happen in the ceremony, and then when you click "start wedding" the ceremony should happen in the order you planned it unless you intervene. Personally I would want to plan it in two parts, with the main ceremony being things that involve the wedding arch and the isle, and then an "after party" that involves toasts and the dancefloor. I'd like to be able to set a break in between those so guests can go to the toilet if they need to. I'm not sure how well a two-part event would fit with traditions from other cultures though.

So if they made it that you did all the micromanage-y stuff at the rehearsal, it saved those choices and cues, then on the actual wedding you could watch it play out

If the AI for the rehearsal is just as glitchy as the wedding AI in the current pack, you'd have the same problems trying to get sims to do what you want, and then you'd have to watch all those mistakes happening again at the wedding. The problem with this pack isn't just that micromanaging is annoying, it's that even if you /want/ to micromanage the wedding, you can't get it to happen the way you want it because the AI is so bad and sims don't do what they're told.

In which case, it would've been nice to have the customisation so we each plan how we want our weddings to turn out without having to micromanage every tiny thing on the wedding day

Hey James, an interesting video would be “trying to beat the packs bugs” basically trying to outsmart the problems. For example no celebs, only a few guests, no autonomy, maybe trying to add everyone to a group and make them sit that way so then they will get up afterwards again. And also maybe leaving lots of room for routing around the wedding arch and chairs. Those are just a few ideas to see if we can make the pack work lol

Watching this really made me happy in me decision to boycott Sims 4. EA has done a terrible job with a lot of the game and expansions/packs and I don't have high hopes for Sims 5 at this rate. I'm happy playing Sims 2, because nostalgia and also there is still an active modding community. Also I hope Paralives works out and is a great game. I'm more likely to try it over Sims 5 as of right now.

I am so upset I lost most of my mods for the Sims 2 that were one of kind and most of those modders are gone now. I am really thinking of going back to Sims 2 as that was my favorite out of the franchise. I agree EA has done a terrible job, and as someone else said - when they take over they kill the game smh. On the forum I've seen a lot of people say they will buy it when it gets fixed. I doubt that ever happens. They will try to fix one or two little things and call it good. Yet people are planning on buying this buggy mess when it's on sale. If they can't put out a good product why buy it? That justifies them to do it again since you buy it anyway. I want new world NOW" EA could release a pack that just clones the basegame worlds but changes the colour of the plants and still people would spend 20 on it, cause "new worlds"

Mods also tend to create a lot of issues though - mostly when they are outdated but some also otherwise, plus you have to do alot of research to try and find trustworthy sources, else you may not just ruin your game but also your computer. Besides, mods are not an option for console players.

It's -so- annoying when you want to throw a kid's bday party but can't invite their friends because mum's never introduced herself. Social events should be a great way to meet other Sims, there shouldn't be a limitation on who you can invite IMO. There isn't for clubs.

Lil simsie also had problems with the cake thing. She also recommended not putting it in the planner and just keeping it in your inventory until you are ready for it. I think even having a fridge on-site would be good so you could keep it fresh during the ceremony.

There was one video where she kept it in her inventory and it went bad. The groom washed it down the sink! I know some people like chaos in their games but there are so many things that can go wrong with this pack even if you're not a player who wants chaos.

All my Sim families have greenhouses where they grow plants year round and that's their main income. I was so excited for Cottage Living where I could can what I grow, grow new crops, and sell everything at the market. But when Eco Living came out, it bugged the plants. Now unless I get up at six to harvest and make sure everything is harvested before the clock hits seven, they all revert to dirt piles. They have had hundreds and hundreds of bug reports on this, but they still haven't fixed it. They released a farming pack without fixing the "plants revert to dirt piles daily" bug. So I have very, very little hope they'll ever fix the bugs in this pack. I'm sure they've already moved on to their next money grab.

See here’s my thing, I think it should be an option to assign sims to be in your wedding OR ask them. The mandatory asking is a pain in the ass. Especially since they can tell you “no.” Not all players want the hassle or drama.

Thanks for your humorous look at My Wedding Stories James. It seemed to go better for you in both the modded and unmodded versions than I've seen in other let's plays. Clearly the gurus and/or Carl have a lot of work to do to make weddings work. But now I know how celebrities in your wedding can complicate the ceremony. pausing video before mod portion. I had the same issues. I don't use mods, but here's what I did: manually asked each sim to change into formal wear, added sims to group (get together) so I could get them where I needed them, RESET each sim individually after the ceremony, and the spoiled food? that was your cake. I made the mistake of purchasing mine the day before. it seems the more minimal the lot, the better success. bouquet toss and cake cutting were a bust, but I did achieve a good number of the other actions. way too much work. it's really disappointing because I've been hoping for a pack like this for years.

2:18 Judith chose to hug you after agreeing to be maid of honour, and then complained about it because she had the fame quirk of not wanting to be touched. Get Famous was released partially broken (though not nearly as bad as Wedding Stories), and one of the problems was sims with the "not liking being touched" quirk still doing all the normal friendly animations that involve hugging, and then complaining afterwards.

EA is ruining their own franchise everytime they release a broken product. It's sad, the broken stuff overshadows the excitement that getting new sims content would have for me. I stopped buying their packs a year ago, and I used to be such a fan that I'd blindly buy every pack release since Sims 1. Sadly they can't be trusted anymore.

It gave me error code 0 and made my whole game, not just the pack, unplayable for any longer than 30 minutes and having to save every in game hour. I've tried everything and ended up having to uninstall the other sims games I had on origin and completely reinstall the sims 4 with all the packs, it took me 14.5 hours and I still don't know if it works.

I really love that they have the option to walk down the aisle together. It’s actually the custom of my country but sadly a lot of ppl have been watching to much american movies so it’s getting less prevalent 🙄 I really do not want the ”exchange of meat/commodity” feel of the father (or mother) giving the bride (usually) away. 😖

I never looked at it as an exchange of commodity -although I'm sure there are origins in that based on many arranged marriages back in the day. To me, it was always the father was the protector of the daughter -the man who she ran to for comfort, advice, etc‐ and he gives her to her future husband to fulfill that role. Trusting that the husband will be dutiful in that. I'm more of a traditionalist, but I love the idea of walking up and down together, too! Every wedding is beautiful in its uniqueness!
