This brings back memories! There was the "rent a computer": buy it, find a job then sell it back before 24 hours so you get most or all your money back (forget which Sims that was); there was have someone move in so they brought in all their money and then kill them (my character was a widow twice over); and the key to friendships: talk until 30, compliment until 60 or 70 and then hug until 100. Never failed.

I thought he could have kept the doors and simply moved them upstairs instead of buying new ones. He didn't need all of the outdoor ones for the patio and the inside doors are the same ones so it would have matched. Sometimes I think James tries to rush too much while making these let's play/challenge videos, which is why he misses things or doesn't think of the obvious options. XD

So happy you started this series! I have been dying to play this again! Any tips to get it working on a modern system? Also, a good way to get relationships up is watching tv together. It increases fun and comfort while also building the relationship.

Such a throwback series! A friend of mine had all the games so I, naturally, were always at her house playing this. I just remember it being so much fun playing, even just the base game. We could even reconstruct her house at a later time with the spiral staircase and everything - it was so cool. Great idea to play this again James - thanks for the nostalgia trip!

Also, I'm not sure what version you have, but there's a bug in some of them that means that your characters won't have interests which will make it incredibly hard to make friends. That bug can be fixed by sending them either to downtown or old town, I believe.

My experience with the stability of this game is pretty good. I usually run it in a Windows XP Virtual Machine and set it scale-able mode. I can make the window bigger without changing the resolution of the VM. I have left my computer running for weeks at a time with that VM running in the background with The Sims running inside the VM for days at a time.

I never played the sims 1 (I was barely alive when it came out) but that FREAKING BRIGHT AQUA. It brings back so many memories of Sims 2, which was basically my childhood. And the little fourth of a circle in the corner with everything on it omg 😭

Hello James!! I was wondering if you could do the same kind of serie but with The Sims 2 when this one will be over. This is super nostalgic to watch. I've been playing Sims since the first as well. I remember going to my friend's house to play Sims with her when we were about 10 or so. Loads of fun and have been hooked ever since. Though I must admit, Sims 4 has never caught my attention. I don't like how it works nor the graphics, but I still enjoy playing Sims 3 and I've build a ton of nice houses. :)

I believe there was an update with windows that prevents this type of game from running I don't exactly remember where I found the article but I had to look a lot online in order to get my game to work as well recently. It's always good to check the forum's on the Sims website.

It's not hard, either you make a couple right away and make them fall in love or get their relationship up high enough, invite them over, eat with them, let them pee, have some fun with either a tv or a hottub (which ups their comfort greatly so I prefer the hottub) get out of the hottub after I don't know between half a sim hour and a sim hour and propose marriage

There's no formal relationships, so anyone can be regarded as related to anyone in TS1. Marriage is just a brief interaction that can sadly only be done if the Sims are straight, which is unfortunate, but yeah, you can literally say Mortimer is Betty Newbie's cousin and that's the closest you will ever get to that. Even if Sim A had a baby the game wouldn't even recognize the baby as Sim A's child. There's literally just a level of opinion. The only relationship the game takes into account is the number of what I call "Opinion Points", where it's like, 75/92. Not sure exactly how that works in regards to quantity=this relationship because I wasn't even born when TS1 came out but I played it alot when I was like 4-ish and I still play it sometimes now, but not enough to observe all gameplay aspects.

Ahh, Sims 1! I'm 25, but I still love this game. :D I'm looking forward to this series! One quick TIP: buy the small aquarium (Poseidon's Adventure Aquarium), and watch it as many times at once as you can. It's just a short animation, so you don't have to wait much, and it will boost the fun level, like nobody's business!

I love this game. The live mode (and death) are so satisfying. I remember looking away from my computer for like five minutes to get a snack and my whole sim family dies because the house caught on fire lmfao. I miss those days. The sims 4 vs sims 3 took A LOT of time for me to be on board. I've absolutely had to mod sims 4 to get the gameplay in live mode I need for a good time.
