AMC Gremlin Re-design - What if it was made TODAY???

It may have been ugly in its day, but the gremlin has got nothing on most cars of today in terms of ugliness. Also, holy crap the AMX GT looks beautiful! Redesign is great, but the new wheels are a bit aftermarket bargain bin. Cleaner silver wheels would suit it more, I think.

I think him using aftermarket wheels is ok instead of using wheels that you know from a production car.... I think that has been one of his better re-designs as of late. This one looks aggressive. The PT Cruiser was blah to me for a redesign

The think I don't get is how the Gremlim is perceived as aesthically ugly. I think it is a quite sexy looking ride. Along with the Pacer, Hornet, Rebel, Javelin & Ambassador (especially the wagon) AMC had "it".

I have seen you do now 2 of my favorite cars a pacer and now gremlin. I recently bought my father a 75 gremlin and have the logo from the gas cap tattooed on my right shoulder. honestly I like the direction you took, the style is unique and the modern touch’s you added made it stand out. Growing up I used to do what you do. I lost my talent for it as I got older, best 2 drawings I had done were a 67 ford pick up and a 1987 YUGO GV I had when I was 18. I would like to see you redesign a YUGO.

I owned a 1972 Gremlin that we bought new with the optional 258 engine. The car was a gem. The 258 cubic inch straight six was engineered to be as smooth as a V8. In reality, it was smoother than any the several V8 cars I've had including our current Mercedes E550. The Gremlin engine had seven main bearings and, unusually for a six cylinder, twelve counterweights. A heavy cast ironblock added rigidity and strength. We drove the car for four years in Germany, usually at 90 miles per hour on the Autobahn. On returning stateside I kept the car into retirement and finally gave it to a relative with 108,000 miles. I don't know how many more miles he put on it. The engine was still smooth and quiet when we sold the car.Especially handy was the flip-up back window which let us load lumber while we were building our house. I know of no other car with a greater disparity between actuality and hearsay. When I bought the car an acquaintance bought the then-new four cylinder Chevrolet Vega. The Vega was a bust with a coarse and noisy unreliable four cylinder engine, and very underpowerd.

Looks great. I'd probably give it a more rounded front wind shield, changed the rear view mirror and made the side windows flush with the body, but that being said, what you've done is nothing short of amazing.

I absolutely adore the AMC Gremlin. And if its competitors were the Chevy Vega and the Ford Pinto, then the Gremlin was unquestionably the best car out of those three. I find it to be delightfully ugly, and it is fitting that it started off as a sketch on an air sickness bag!

I have so many ideas for sketches. I guess this would be a good place to start: You might recall that Dodge had a sport compact in the mid-oughties called the Neon SRT-4 which was based on the second generation Neon. But what if the SRT-4 was based on the first generation Neon?
