It's such a weird thing. When comparing to an Alfa, it's a clear copy/paste. But when it's next to a Durango, it just looks like a baby Durango. It fits right in line with the rest of Dodge's outgoing/current lineup. So while it is indeed a copy/paste job, I don't think that's an inherently bad thing at all.

It seems like you are actually very right, and I didnt notice until you pointed it out. It also shares a lot of similarities with the grand cherokee's. But is it possible that Dodge has been purposely making minute changes to their vehicles to coincide with the looks of the alfas so as not to upset their consumer base, kind of like weening us off of the drug that we're all addicted to.

It's not a copy as such ..it's nothing more than a badge engineered Alfa to give Dodge much needed product to offer. Stellantis will be doing more of this seeing it will have a huge portfolio. It's made in Italy on the same production line as the Tonale.

Am I crazy, or it looks somewhat Mitsubishi-esque, which is weird, considering Dodge's partnership with them in the 80s. Also, am I crazy, or Mitsubishi in the 90's was kinda pseudo-Italian in their machismo and drama? Tommi Makkinen's Evo 6, for example. Also, a modern redesign of the Stealth sounds kinda good right about now. It;s not like Mitsu gonna make the 3000GT again, and Dodge's design language is becoming more aggressive again.

Call me crazy but as a Dodge fan, I genuinely like the way the Hornet looks even if it is just a rebadged Alfa Romeo Tonale and, to be honest, it doesn't bother me as much as it does for other people and I think it works towards its favor since neither the Tonale nor Hornet looks like your generic compact crossover SUVs. They both have interesting designs that make them stand out and I'm actually excited to see the Hornet out on the streets. Also from certain angles, the Hornet somehow gives me baby Durango vibes. Of course, pictures and videos don't serve a car justice so who knows, maybe the Hornet's design will grow on people when we start seeing them.

Give him time and he can do much more and make the whole care look better. His version of the front end looks like it came off a Honda CRV and a host of other vehicles. The front-end design is way too busy. Either stylists are minimalistic, or they go way overboard. Early GM cars are guilty of that. We need a car like the early Honda Civics and Datsun 510, with Japanese drivetrains, for those who are not overly flush with cash. I balk at the price of these cars. $40,000 plus is way too much. I bought a very nice Honda Civic at the beginning of 2018 (2017 model) for $20,000. Now they are going to nearly $30,000. This is insane.

Completely agree with you. The lack of creativity to at least attempt to make this more of a Dodge design is an absolute letdown. If Stellantis wanted to expand on the Tonale design, it would have worked better as a replacement to the Fiat 500X instead of a Dodge. With that said though, seeing this Hornet, it almost make me think of Chrysler in the 1990s and 2000s. The Dodge and Plymouth cars all looked the same except for the change in badging. Case in point: Dodge Stratus and the Plymouth Breeze, Dodge and Plymouth Neon, and the Dodge Caravan and the Plymouth Voyager.

This may be part two of what happened with the Dart 2. This looks like a bland Minivan. And the Hudson/AMC Hornet not only has a History but it is the Research platform for the vehicle that Jeep was made popular on. This is on a Rear-Wheel-Drive platform. The best thing that can happen is that this vehicles gets a SRT-like version with a Hellfire Supercharged Six. The Hornet at one time on its last platform was a regular V-8 RWD MOPAR driven car. The Wagon version of it was given a Jeep drivetrain and became the AMC Eagle. It was the Research and Development Platform for the Jeep Wagoneer.

Which I think is funny because if Dodge doesn't do something to keep cash flow up, they WILL die out (which from the Hemi or nothing crowd, it's getting a ton of heat as to the "end of the brotherhood of muscle") Which if they keep making only big HP Hemis that get subpar milage, those who can afford the EXTREMELY long term monthly payments but not the fuel bill would end up at small compact stuff they hate anyways

yes, rush to have right away a player on the segment drove this decision, most likely; is better to get used to "carry over" (as in many other car makers, certainly is that small changes makes difference, but very often design considerations are huge changes in manufacturing, in your proposal there are at least 30 dies to develop and many changes in the assembly line (excluding some other items for vehicle integration and tryouts for legislation accomplishment...etc.), bottom line good looking proposal but financially not feasible.

we just need something new and absolutely ground breaking from dodge. i gotta say the electric car might be it but i just have no idea. dodge really limited itself by making pure muscle, and im not mad at it, but they lack anything crazy in their other segments, and thats kind of disappointing

I'm surprised this doesn't get the new/old "fratzog" logo. Also, that the Tonale will be sold as such in America alongside the Hornet which instantly gives the Alfa-branded version Cadillac Cimarron Syndrome.

This undercuts the Alfa...that's the crappy part... I think random people going into a Dodge dealership looking for a CUV will care less that it's a copy.. weird move by Stellantis..but should be good for Dodge sales.

If the Hornet was branded as any other car manufacture I would be MORE interested in it. As a Dodger however I'm a tad bit annoyed & disappointed. Cool vehicle overall but I agree with your take. They were the last brand that made "muscle" vehicles. Yes would the Hornet be a tad bit less efficient as you designed it sure, but not by much. Would have maintained that identity. Their unveil of the new Charger (basically Challenger body), absorbing the aftermarket group & turning Challengers into convertibles (hate it), killing 4-door Chargers (design we had gotten use to) & this Hornet is all just weird. None of it screams Dodge imo. I think the requirement of manufacturers creating EVs combined with Dodge not really wanting to use more money in EV development right now gave us this. C- grade overall for me. Not blown away by any means but also indifferent. Probably switch brand loyalty as time continues on to another.

"the rear end doesn't share similarities" ???? I believe the shape is exactly the same as the Durango taillights strip and it's got similar shape as the challenger or charger rear light strip.

Reason why it's an almost complete copy/pasta is CUVs have little margin to play with in a competitive space. Had to be as conservative as possible and re-skinning the whole car for those minor changes means additional costs for new body stampings and mouldings. Not gonna happen. Noe, if you say that Alfa should have done this design from the beginning, I would agree... but reskinning an existing vehicle for different makes, nope. Unrealistic. Also, major reason why this will work in the USA over the Tonale? 140ish Alfa dealers. 2400+ Dodge dealers. I'm ok with the badge engineering. Dodge (well, ChryCo prior) has lots of experience with prior DSMs (Plymouth Laser/EagleTalon/Mitsu Eclypse, along with Dodge Stealth/Mitsu 3000GT, and lastly Dodge Conquest/Mitsu Starion) in making it actually work for them. They know a thing or two because they've seen a thing or two. ;)

I like better your front end! I believe that Stellantis didn’t want to change the manufacturing equipment such punch and dies and allowed the American Design team to design only the front end and rear end lights. This sound like an economical decision more than please North American customers. It reminded me when in the same manufacturer made different rear and front end between their own divisions (GM with Buick and Oldsmobile and Pontiac and Chevrolet). The same base and plateform with different front and rear design and interior. At least it was in the same American DNA while now, as you mentioned, it is an European DNA.
