It's such a weird thing. When comparing to an Alfa, it's a clear copy/paste. But when it's next to a Durango, it just looks like a baby Durango. It fits right in line with the rest of Dodge's outgoing/current lineup. So while it is indeed a copy/paste job, I don't think that's an inherently bad thing at all.

It seems like you are actually very right, and I didnt notice until you pointed it out. It also shares a lot of similarities with the grand cherokee's. They both have interesting designs that make them stand out and I'm actually excited to see the Hornet out on the streets. Also from certain angles, the Hornet somehow gives me baby Durango vibes. Give him time and he can do much more and make the whole care look better. His version of the front end looks like it came off a Honda CRV and a host of other vehicles. The front-end design is way too busy. Either stylists are minimalistic, or they go way overboard. Early GM cars are guilty of that. We need a car like the early Honda Civics and Datsun 510, with Japanese drivetrains, for those who are not overly flush with cash. I balk at the price of these cars. $40,000 plus is way too much. I bought a very nice Honda Civic at the beginning of 2018 (2017 model) for $20,000. Now they are going to nearly $30,000. This is insane.

And the Hudson/AMC Hornet not only has a History but it is the Research platform for the vehicle that Jeep was made popular on. This is on a Rear-Wheel-Drive platform. The best thing that can happen is that this vehicles gets a SRT-like version with a Hellfire Supercharged Six. The Hornet at one time on its last platform was a regular V-8 RWD MOPAR driven car. The Wagon version of it was given a Jeep drivetrain and became the AMC Eagle. It was the Research and Development Platform for the Jeep Wagoneer.

They were the last brand that made "muscle" vehicles. Yes would the Hornet be a tad bit less efficient as you designed it sure, but not by much. Would have maintained that identity. Their unveil of the new Charger (basically Challenger body), absorbing the aftermarket group & turning Challengers into convertibles (hate it), killing 4-door Chargers (design we had gotten use to) & this Hornet is all just weird. None of it screams Dodge imo. I think the requirement of manufacturers creating EVs combined with Dodge not really wanting to use more money in EV development right now gave us this. C- grade overall for me. Not blown away by any means but also indifferent. Probably switch brand loyalty as time continues on to another.

Reason why it's an almost complete copy/pasta is CUVs have little margin to play with in a competitive space. Had to be as conservative as possible and re-skinning the whole car for those minor changes means additional costs for new body stampings and mouldings. Not gonna happen. Noe, if you say that Alfa should have done this design from the beginning, I would agree... but reskinning an existing vehicle for different makes, nope. Unrealistic. Also, major reason why this will work in the USA over the Tonale? 140ish Alfa dealers. 2400+ Dodge dealers. I'm ok with the badge engineering. Dodge (well, ChryCo prior) has lots of experience with prior DSMs (Plymouth Laser/EagleTalon/Mitsu Eclypse, along with Dodge Stealth/Mitsu 3000GT, and lastly Dodge Conquest/Mitsu Starion) in making it actually work for them. They know a thing or two because they've seen a thing or two. ;)

The front end looks ugly. The side and back looks good. They definitely are going to have to redesign the front end.

I like better your front end! I believe that Stellantis didn’t want to change the manufacturing equipment such punch and dies and allowed the American Design team to design only the front end and rear end lights. This sound like an economical decision more than please North American customers. It reminded me when in the same manufacturer made different rear and front end between their own divisions (GM with Buick and Oldsmobile and Pontiac and Chevrolet). The same base and plateform with different front and rear design and interior. At least it was in the same American DNA while now, as you mentioned, it is an European DNA.
