The last thing I wired was a turbo timer in an old Legacy (Liberty). It worked, but when the timer reached zero the horn would honk for three seconds. Took me a solid 4 hours to sort it, not counting the initial time it took me to install. It would literally take me years to sort out the wiring on this. And I would be thrilled if I got 10% of it to work. Amazing work guys 👌

Even though the Haltech is a PDM I would still put any high current or circuit that’s likely short through a fuse and relays. Fans and pumps especially. Having everything run from one magic box is just ask the smoke fairies to escape. I do have experience with solid state relays and circuit breakers exploding and taking out any circuit that’s on the same board.
@papapetad3 жыл бұрын
Depends on how much faith you have in the company's QA and things like extensive batch testing for component integrity (and product warranty). I must admit this one-box-do-it-all would make me nervous af also and at the same time it's such a big space and time saver. Good mobile phones can stand years of abuse so why not. Now I wonder if it can also run an auto trans. That'd be nuts.
@anomamos90953 жыл бұрын
@@papapetad I look at it as a cost benefit equation. It costs about $5 to $35 for a good relay and that box costs about how many thousands ? I'd rather blow a cheap fuse and or relay before having to replace that box even if it's under warranty. Also things that are noisy are better off not being connected directly to a PDM no matter how good it is.
@papapetad3 жыл бұрын
@@anomamos9095 Makes sense. You gotta think about application though. Few people will spend that much money on a street car. With how easy it is to diagnose every single circuit and run of wire, this is a perfect race car solution. Worst case, just replace the box and you're done, no need to chase gremlins for hours. Anyone who can afford to run this in a daily driver is most likely sitting on another couple cars + for backup should the box fail and need replacing. Technically, it even minimizes failure points with much less external components and connections. It really comes down to how much faith you have in Haltech and their testing procedures then how good the wiring job is. I'd bite the bullet if I had that kind of cash to throw at a wiring job, if only to experience the elegance of the solution. I have more faith in Haltech than OE planned obsolescence bs.
@anomamos90953 жыл бұрын
@@papapetad . Yes and no. I am not talking about running relays and fuses for every circuit (what would be the point of the PDM?) just the two or three highest draw items that really should have a dedicated power line direct from the battery. If one of those things blows and takes a fuse or kills a relay it’s actually quicker to trace and fix than replacing a PDM
@papapetad3 жыл бұрын
@@anomamos9095 But then what's the point in spending thousands on this unit with hardware built-in and tested specifically for that purpose if you're just gonna buy some other random hardware and wires? That means you don't trust that Haltech has tested their hardware to handle the loads and heat generated. Nobody buying these is going to mess around. They're spending the money and expecting it to work. If it fails and the wiring is done properly, they expect Haltech to replace the unit. If it's a race team, an extra 5-10k worth of replacement ecu is reasonable. If you're Haltech, you carefully pick suppliers and batch test the f out of the product to make sure the components and design are up to the task. At what price point would you consider NOT running a separate fan circuit?
