This is such a healthy parent child dynamic. I can tell the son is very comfortable and open with him, but also has respect. The dad is not trying to be a friend. He's a FATHER. He provides guidance, live, support, and redirection when necessary. Children WANT this, need this, and it's so refreshing to see.

No, I think he is friends with his dad. I don't tell people I'm not friends with shit like that... I'm friends with my parents but I still respect them and the fact that they are my elders, and as I minor I did everything they told me to do. However, I was and still am friends with them... I'd probably never respect them if I wasn't.
@niagratang6676 жыл бұрын
You misunderstand me. I didn't say that they weren't friends, or that the dad was not friendly with his son. I simply said he's not TRYING so hard to be that. In a healthy parent child relationship where love, support, and trust are the foundation its natural that a child may even come to recognize there parent as their BEST friend. But I feel some parents forget the importance of rearing a child, and how critical guidance is, ESPECIALLY in our dark, confused world today.

There was such a subtle moment in this video but I loved it. Cyrus is explaining what goals he has and how he can achieve it. Cyrus says, "wait, you graduated from college right?" and Calvin responds, "Yes". And Cyrus continues on his list... "graduate college" etc. This boy definitely sees his father as a role model and this was such a nice way to show it.
@JMac-276 жыл бұрын
Heather Deitchman Thats sweet but thats not what he said. He said "graduate from college, you do graduate from college right" he was making sure that is the correct terminology for finishing college, like that there could be a different term for it so he was checking if he was saying it correctly. Thats why his dad smiled like that and said yes because he is young and it was cute that he had to check if he was right. Hes only in 8th grade despite looking much older, but anyway thats what was said.

I definitely think he wants to be like his dad, I’m sure both of his dads. I loved the moment where he said, “Because where I came from, I don’t remember, but I know it would’ve been a bad place, and I know that you basically saved me from that situation- and *other dad’s name*! But now, basically, it’s like I’m a younger you now.” And then explains how they both came from unstable situations and got adopted into loving families, and both overcame hard things as families. But he was so quick to add that his other dad also saved him, there’s very much equal love there, and comparison to being a younger version of his dad was really heartwarming.

MacKenzie Thomas lol no, kids need parents. The problem today is too many parents try to be their kids friend as opposed to their parent. You can and should have open dialogue with your kids but that line between parent and friend shouldn’t be blurred in my opinion. The biggest thing that helped me avoid trouble in life was having a father that was just that a father. Provided a lot of discipline but at the same time made it clear he loved me. When your a kid you hate the strict-ness and discipline but as an adult I look back thankful that I was raised that way. Just my thoughts
@mackenziethomas48406 жыл бұрын
@@Kingkmf well my mom is both my parent and my friend and I'm doing great. She is one of my best friends and I'm a straight A student and I've never even had a detention. And I didn't have a super easy childhood either but I never let it effect me because my mom was their for me
@miurtouissi10936 жыл бұрын
@@mackenziethomas4840 right . I hate how, especially in the black community (I'm black, speaking from experience) people think that the worst thing you could do as a parent is try to be your child's friend. Like you said being a parent AND a friend is the perfect mixture. What they don't get imo js that once the child becomes an adult and independent he will need a friend more than a parent and the relationship needs to be there and healthy! No wonder why so many children cut contact with their parents when they don't 'need' them to solve a problem, because we were raised to only see them as problem solvers lol not as confidents and friends!! For a healthy relationship, we need to try and be both!!! Trust is cultivated with time not once your child is already old enough to be mature!!!
@jackystar50996 жыл бұрын
@@Kingkmf she did mention a parent AND a friend. Parents who can have an open dialogue with their children and still set down the law are awesome. That's what she meant. My mom is my friend as well as my parent and I'm comfortable when it comes to talking about stuff, while still acknowledging she is above me. My dad is more of a parent where he doesn't really interact with me as anything but a parent. I don't feel comfortable when it comes to talking about things with him. Being both a friend AND a parent helps kids feel more comfortable to talk about things and that's what's really important, especially today where bullying and mental illness have become so prevalent.
@Phoenix-yh6ec5 жыл бұрын
My parents were strictly parents with fun but once I hit a certain age they became both. There’s nothing wrong with being a parent and a friend. Apostrophe T it’s so true. Most trashiest! 😂 it’s like 6th grade year I planted my seed so I spent the year trying to get acclimated waiting on my seed to grow. 7th grade brought in a horrible storm that washed tat seed away. I was like a baby zombie. 8th grade year I bloomed and never looked back 😩
@TracyMarie716 жыл бұрын
7th grade sucked! We still had junior high (7th, 8th, 9th), so youngest kids in the school, felt like we had to prove ourselves at a new school, our parents didn’t understand anything we said and what passed in 6th grade wasn’t going to work in 7th. It was awful. My only saving grace was that I was already friends with most of my upper classmates and everyone in my own grade.

What was it like growing up with two mum's ? I ask because my partner and I always talk about having children but my biggest fear is the way other people will treat them. Even though I know it's nobodies business ....
@acier43346 жыл бұрын
Ingrid Ingrid I’ve always lived in an affluent/liberal town so i never felt ostracized or different. Growing up with 2 moms is great. Even though we’re not an average family I don’t think I missed out on much. I get asked “do you ever wish you had a dad?” a lot or “do you ever want to meet your birth parents” which I guess bothers me a bit just because why would I want a dad when my moms have given me everything a dad couldn’t or could? That’s only occasional. People mostly have a positive reaction like “you have two moms? That’s so cool!”. I think it is. :) id be happy to give u more info if u need it

This is so sweet. You can really tell that the dad is a great parent based on how close they seem to be. And Cyrus seems like such a sweet and intelligent boy! Love is what makes up a family, it doesn’t matter if you’re female, male, a single parent, Black White Hispanic Asian purple green blue or red, it’s the love, care dedication trust and understanding. What a wonderful family!
