This is the only realistic video I've ever seen on spray/self tanning, so thank you!! I self tan, and the only thing that's such a pain about it is that I need to basically schedule out my entire big summer events (or even just going out on certain weekends) around when my fake tan will look good, when it will be on its laaaast possible day, and when I will be pale because I need to scrub it off for the next application. Do you do this too??? Is there an easier way to not be at the mercy of your tan?? Hahah.

I suggest to soak in a warm/hot bath when you are ready for the spray tan to come off. Using an exfoliating mitt to really slough off the skin will do an amazing job while you are soaking. Wipe with a dry towel using pressure when your skin is still wet if you still have color left after you get out. I have white towels and see the brown come off on them but it washes out. :)

I usually include my face but you could always wear darker foundation if your face is blotchy. x

The face does fade faster than the rest of the body because of makeup removal and general exposure to the elements. There are special self tanning lotions/sprays made specifically for the face. I tell my clients to mix theirs into their face lotion - a little bit goes a long way - and apply using a makeup sponge. Think of it as a makeup and it's not as scary. :) My fave is Norvell 4 Faces.

Ask your Spray Tanning Technician if they have Norvell Hydro Firm. This will help keep your skin moisturized and hydrated throughout the life of your tan, essentially, combats the the chlorine from drying the skin. It really helps!

I do mystic too! I’ve noticed the honey kissed looks the best for me. I don’t use the barrier cream either, but sometimes instead of washing my hands afterwards I’ll use one pump of the barrier cream as a lotion on my hands to stop the spray from darkening in advance. Try it! It sounds weird and like it won’t work but it does really well and there’s no sign that I sprayed on my hands!

1. You should get your tans from a spray tan technician.They have researched their products and the industry and can recommend and use the best product. They will also advise you how to care for your tan afterward. I am pretty sure the Mexican dogs used in one of the studies referenced did not use moisturize, or use sunblock afterward. Studies can be very misleading and send people in the wrong direction. 2. The FDA has approved DHA as safe to use on humans, not hairless Mexican dogs. 3.On another study sited in that article, it references decreased vitamin D absorption. Most people are directed to always wear their sunblock when going outdoors. Spray tan technicians will tell you also to be sure to wear sunblock. Any type of sunblock will decrease your vitamin D absorption. We also absorb sun through our eyes (hence vitamin D). 4. As in the video, and getting a custom spray tan, you are advised to use moisturizer a couple times a day to help extend your tan and help it to fade more evenly. Good moisturizers have anti-aging ingredients to keep you looking young. There are spray tan solutions that do not use alcohol in them, and there are ones that have anti-aging properties in them. 5. I have spray tanned (booth and technician)for a long time due to my fair skin and I have never had damage from that (and I don't think you will find one person who has), however, I do have a large sunspot on my face about an inch below my eye that screams: hey I have sun damage. It's hard to find a good concealer to cover it.

Hiiii!!! I have a question on what to do with your hands and feet after getting the spray tan. Is it that immediately after getting sprayed, I want go wipe down the palm of my hands with the baby wipe and the bottom of my feet? I’ve heard that I shouldn’t wipe or get wet the insides of my fingers or the back of my hand or the top part of my feet because then the spray tan won’t last as long. Is it true?

When I am getting a spray tan I wipe down the inside of my hands, and the bottom of my feet! My spray tan usually comes out evenly.

I have a girl who does air brush tans by hand and she suggests never put deodorant/moisturize on prior to getting your tan done (ie the same day). Whats your take on that? Also how often do you get spray tan? Is this something you do on a more regular basis?

Hi Samantha! That's a great question and there are a couple of reasons why. The armpit area can tend to turn greenish when deodorant is left on before a spray tan. It depends on the solution being used but another reason is that it creates a distinct barrier. When we hand airbrush spray tan our clients we don't spray tan the armpits directly so it looks natural but if there is deodorant on it can be an obvious line. We keep baby wipes in our rooms so clients can remove the deodorant when they arrive if needed but it's best to go without it. Any kind of lotion or moisturizer on the skin can leave a barrier and then the spray tan won't be able to absorb evenly or deep enough. We love the Norvell Amplify spray for at home use. It can be used as a moisturizer after the shower (before a spray tan) and to keep your skin hydrated throughout the tan. It has awesome skin friendly ingredients in it!

Hey! Love your channel.. question I’ve never gotten a spray tan but I’ve tried loving tan in ultra dark and although I loved the color it came out splotchy and uneven every time. Yes! If I put my hair down too soon after the tips of my hair will get colored. It does not wash out if you are blonde. I don't get a line in mine, just put the shower cap a little on your roots. x
