For anyone without context, 2500 billable hour requirement for the year is INSANE. The average billable requirement for most Biglaw firms is about 1900-2000 I believe? Even at the hardest working sweatshop firms billing 2500 hours in a year is something that typically only the super try-hard gunners do when making a push for partnership, and even then they can only do it for maybe one or two years. It's a ridiculous ask to have it be the requirement.
@alexG106
@alexG106 5 сағат бұрын
Just to further emphasize your point: Imagine you’re working 10 hours a day for 250 days. That’s actually not enough to meet 2500 billable hours because not all of that time is going to BE billable work to any given client. So you’d likely be pushing about 300+ days of your year into meeting this requirement. If you’re thinking, “but there’s not enough weekdays in the year to accomplish that?” Hey! You’re right! It means you have to work weekends as well :)

Now that partner's off to a long lunch that he'll bill to the firm as Business Development (since he spent 3-5 minutes of it vaguely discussing work with another partner). Said lunch will cost half of what his long-suffering 'secretary' (formal title 'legal admin') makes in a week. All while the new associate spends endless hours putting together work the partner can pass off to the client as his own. It's so stressful being a partner in Big Law.

He’s up-front about payment, as we see with Badger. He’s always on the phone, either with clients or seeking new cases, so he probably doesn’t ghost clients like so many lawyers do. Just hire someone, money is a sham anyway. Debt exceeds what could exist. Yet we still charge interest!

The fact that you're a lawyer and likely taking from real life experiences makes me worry about your experiences with Warren and the likes 😬

Bruuuuuuhhhhh this is why my English teacher in high school left law to become the most intense teacher I’ve ever met. I literally heard him scream through the wall twice in one day (complete with pounding fist) about Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. With that said, he was super nice

I want to say "I could never," but I know my younger self would have felt so responsible for all this work, assumed all this was normal and acceptable, and played the game this jerk is making up rules for jusst thinking I had to. So glad I'm far from that amount of acceptance, but I do miss the energy I burned out on that work

In some ways, this boss sounds reasonable as in he's definitely now needed by the new guy and the company, but in others he sounds like a hard-ass.

Y'all tripping, the partner is very helpful! He took the time to give the new hire a reality check instead of writing him off the second he heard about the 8-hour day expectation. Wow!
