The Bobby Spinner is an old spent spinner imitation that is incredibly durable and floats extremely well. You can change the size and color to imitate a wide variety of mayfly spinners, and has been one of our favorites on the waters around South West Montana for years.

Depends on the type of water you’ll be fishing. Where are your home waters and how big are the trout?

Kelly- another thing besides happy birthday. I have been watching Ray Schmidt’s series on Michigan flies. What is it about that place that inspired so many great Tyers and flys (long winters in basements)? Lots of cool innovations from people that were paying attention to what they were doing to imitate food sources they observed generically, not just slapping random crap on hooks because they thought it looked cool. I like the style, simplicity and thinking through of intended function of the flies. It’s also pretty cool these dudes are your forefathers, so they must be smiling down upon you as you keep the Michigan traditions alive.

Mr. Galloup, for me, after tying my own flies for over 26 years, it is truly a pleasure and joy to watch you in action. What I most appreciate is how you use your knowledge of Entomology to fashion your flies, and your use of materials. Superb !!! Thank YOU for sharing, and I'm sure I don't have to wish you " tight lines ", though I still will ;)

I am interested in the history of this fly. Is the originator Robert Schiller? Not sure how to spell that name.

Nice, and as usual your explanations give me a lot of ideas. I don't fish a lot of spinners, but I see potential for using that method of tying in and propping up the wing material in my favorite upright wing patterns. Thanks.

Nice fly , I like the abdomen of deer hair gives it a good taper. Looks like it would work good for a Callibaetis dun or spinner pattern. Thanks :-)

Happy birthday. Had the same. Thanks for the hex spinner. Here in the midwest the hatch is impressive and your mess turned into a work of art. Very informative, as usual.
